John Cale lead vocals , piano , guitar ; Dave Young guitar, vocals ; Andy Heerman bass & vocals ; Dave Lichtenstein drums. It is the same band of the album Caribbean sunset of the same year (1984). Splendid rock concert , very Velvet Underground drums & mood , in my opinion . John is great : voice, guitar, piano just fantastic. Thank you for posting !
This era of cale is a giant blindspot for me. When I think of him, i hear the early 70s records, and then I remember the contemporary stuff from Nookiewood onward. I don't know any of these songs 15 mins in. Hypnotic devo esque stuff. I love it. Didn't notice until 3 songs in that he was playing a flying v. lol
You can really hear here how his lifestyle had taken a toll on his normally rich and expressive voice (and he looks pretty rough as well) - it's really great that he cleaned up and managed to get back his wonderful vocal abilities
I.hand painted his face from the album Fear on a bright yellow t-shirt with black fabric paint but, I left out the nose cause I wasn't sure I could get it right So I go to the Whiskey a go go to see him live and wait for him at the back door So he shows up and saw my shirt and wants to sign it no-one has a pen so we see the show and after someone gave me a magic marker and I approached his limousine and he gladly signs it with the word nose and an arrow pointing at where it should be
Many thanks for placing this here. Great performance and who sitting in front of the TV taping it or watching John Cale live could forget the memorable end of the concert. Simply magic!
Finally some footage from the Caribbean Sunset album- out of print and one of my favorites! This is a great find. I saw him live in San Francisco in 1986 for the first time with Chris Spedding but it was just those two. Love this!
John Cale has always been my favorite male musician and Laurie Anderson my favorite female musician so, imagine how tripped out I was when she married Lou Reed The love triangle was complete
Johns a true multi instrumentalist. He lived the rock'n'roll life style and managed to clean up and get his head back on. It's not easy and some can some can't. Glad he did.
I was 20 at the time...stayed up all night to watch this...recorded it on casette placed near our television...still have that casette.....this was a terroristic raid instead of a gig....fucking great !!!!
Watched it live on TV at the time, in my student dorm, was rather late (2:30 am I think, 1 hour wait or the like). Never got a better Rockpalast night...
