Thank you! I've shared this before, but it's worth mentioning again. My dog had a small stick puncture in between his toes. I was unaware of this, until I saw him licking his paw. It was red and looked like it was getting infected. I started using colloidal silver on it. I also soaked his paw in warm water with sea salt to draw out the infection. I was able to push the stick out. I put drops of collodia silver in the hole. This cleared up the infection and he healed beautifully. I love this stuff for treating flu symptoms, sinus infections, pink eye for myself. It works wonders with infections with my cat who has upper respiratory issues.

Hello Dr. Jones, I have a 22 month old labradoodle, who is healthy and very active. We live by the water and she swims almost daily. I groom her myself, which she's great about, and she dislikes but usually cooperates with nail trims. She licks and chews at her nails at times, and recently has begun to yelp intermittently when I begin to apply pressure to trim a nail (it's not always the same nail, but the one she is chewing at at the time). She's okay for the other nails but gets nervous in anticipation of more discomfort. I brought her to the vet previously, and she didn't detect anything, but Kai was very uncooperative with the exam. I may try some of your holistic treatments, since they can only help, but any thoughts as to what this might be? thank you so very much!!
It sounds like yeast to me. I'm sure you've investigated and if it is have found this out already. I hope for your sake it's not because my fur buddy has had problems with yeast in his feet all his life. He's now eight and it seems to be getting worse with age. Because it's so uncomfortable they become very non-compliant so any type of topicals or soaking can be almost impossible. I found the only way to treat them was with antibiotics, antifungals or both but as a senior dog they just don't seem to be working anymore. If this is the case and you happen to have come up with something please let me know and I will do the same.
My dog has SLO for dogs. He had to have 2 toenails removed and part of one toe from this and a biospy was done to verify the do. He now takes Omega 3,6,9 daily and naicimide 2 daily and he takes doxycycline 50 mg bid. But only give the antibiotic when his nails begin to split. Other meds everyday. Was dx 3 yrs ago and he rarely get a bad flat up, maybe once a year.
Hi. I hope u can siggest me what to do w/ my dogs situation. Last week her left foot was swollen and after that it went well and healed but adter 1week. I noticed 2bumps in between her finggers but not swollen. What do u think is it and what to do.
Dr Jones my dog doesn't have an infection but her toe splits from top to bottom with the quick exposed this happens to her on a regular basis about every 6 months. Its extremely painful. Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening ? I've soaked it in warm Epson salts can this harm her? Do you have any suggestions
I’m trying to learn how far to cut GSD nails when some have become dry almost hollowed at the ends. They are to long, so I’m trimming a little at a time. He has had allergies, was in antibiotics for secondary infection, now seems to have developed yeast infection. He responded to a bath w/antibacterial, anti yeast soap all over body so I’m going to avoid oral antibiotics from now on. Mild pinkness in between toes, one irritated area I dabbed cream on. I’m going to start rinsing feet off as he comes in and keep them dry limit his licking. But back to the question: one foot has nails that seems dry, thin hollowed underneath. I just found your channel and will be watching more. Thank you for the info in this video I plan to try your ideas to avoid the oral antibiotics. BTW he had no skin allergies before he was neutered at 18 months. ☹️
Sounds more like a bacterial infection- consider topical green tea/lavender oil soak, along with oral propolis. 500mg/50lbs twice daily. Also I encourage you to get a copy of my free book at veterinarysecrets.com/
I’ve taken my dog to four vets and no one has ever seen a dog nail infection or thinks my dog has a problem. It’s so horrible! He’s dealt with it for years. The nail bed flakes, is swollen and I have to soak in a water hydrogen peroxide mix every day. No one can help me! I’m looking forward to hearing more on your video now.
My vet is having me soak twice a day in Epsom salt and warm water for 10 minutes. Then I use apple cider vinegar and water (1 part apple cider vinegar to 2 parts water) and dab that on the infected area with a cotton ball several times a day.
Hey doc! My 2 yr old pup has got what looks like a paronychia... Been working on it for 3 days now, doesnt seem to be showing big improvement... I know you said 7 to 14 days... but is there a point at which I should go ahead with the antibiotics if I dont see improvement? Also how do I pick which soak is best? Between the black tea and the green tea/vinegar im leaning toward black tea since im worried the vinegar will sting his raw skin... thoughts?
Hi my dog as a nail that is growing huge and must be painfull as she is limping I have been filing it back as vet said the quick will recede but it’s not and I just don’t know what to do
I was thinking about using an aloe gel with colloidal silver mixture. I am assuming that i could just apply this and if he licks it... no harm. Also, do you use colloidal silver ingested as an antibiotic?
It appears to be a success. No more licking and gnawing. The burgandy-ish discoloration of the nail is going away. I would apply it around the base of the nail with a Q-tip.
@@laurieanne2791 I went to a colloidal silver gel with aloe vera - two good things in one - with Q-tips but the problem persisted. DOUXO Chlorhexidene Mousse from the vet takes care of occasional occurrences. I rub it in good and he stops licking.
Hi there doctor, I've been soaking my dogs paw with water and some white vinegar solution, then applying some Neosporin ointment on the affected nail for about a week, but when I stopped it came back. Any comments if vinegar is good?
Doc, have you ever heard of sugardine? would it be good for this type of infection? and also instead of using Betadine or povidone iodine can you use lugol's iodine which is much cleaner and doesn't have all the chemicals in it to make the sugardine?
My dog broke his toe nail but not all the way, about 1 1/2 to 2 inches is left. The quick is still exposed but dried, never saw any blood. I have noticed that the quick is still hanging on. Do I need to keep it wrapped ? the nail that broke is not even and cannot be trimmed because of the quick. It's been a week already, there is no sign of a infection and the quick feels hard. Will this take care of itself or do I need to take him in to have the rest of the nail removed? I'm keeping the paw wrapped and clean for now but I'm not sure how long I need to keep that up.
Thank you for this information. Also the information about garlic. I use to give my dogs about a tsp of garlic for fleas. And I never had any problem with fleas on the dogs. But I stopped when I heard about it not being good. I will go back to doing it because now she goes to a common potty yard. (only one now lost the other and not to garlic)
My dog split his nail on the side. I have been cleaning it daily. He is walking on his paw. I just am scared of infection. How will I know if it is infected?
sorry for my spelling ... my dog max is half rotty half bermese mountian dog . he got poked my something and it scabed over . wound looks fine . but there is a ball behind skin now 2 weeks later .. he is fine he seems like himself , hes eating sleeping playing .. so i dont know what i should do because i have no money for a vet ... wish i did
My dog continues to find ways to eat his toe after a nail infection. I believe it’s infected again. The skin around his toe is also raw and looks like a crushed raspberry. Is it safe to soak it in black tea even though his toe has an open wound ?
I've been dealing with chronic yeast infections in my fur baby for over 8 years now. I avoided the vet but if you have a large non-compliant dog it's impossible to treat with anything but oral medication. Attempting to soak Four Paws for 5 minutes twice a day again just cannot be done. With that said turning to the vet for help with antibiotics and antifungals didn't work either. I'm at the point where I am absolutely lost and would give anything to not have to watch my poor dog constantly licking and chewing on his feet. The only thing that offers him any relief is sedation and of course that's not an option. I'm desperately searching for what is causing him to overproduce deceased and have not been able to find an answer anywhere. If anyone in the comment section seems to have found a solution that will be useful to me please let me know. Thank you. I have tried all of the good doctors suggestions and they don't seem to work for Luke.
Allergies can give dogs chronic yeast infections. It can be a food allergy or food allergies or an environmental allergy, cleaning product allergy, etc. There are probably other things that can give dogs yeast issues besides this one.
Have you tried the dog intolerance test. We had tried everything and nothing stopped our husky biting herself bald. We had the intolerance test done and followed the findings and she's been fine for a year now.
Side note on antibiotics. My dog often gets yeast overgrowth because of being on antibiotics. Just like humans can be affected and take acidophilus, it works for dogs too ( just ensure you DONT take acidophilus at the same time as the antibiotics, make sure you space them apart at least 3 hours). So, in my dogs situations, I need to find natural remedies for his nail bed redness/ear itching/arm pit Hotspot etc...because his nail bed and paw infections are a direct result of antibiotics, and the yeast imbalance/overgrowth that can naturally occur afterwards. ACV and peroxide has always worked for me. I've never tried the green/black teas... but I'm going to give them a try. Can go wrong with Apple Cider Vinegar. For those on a budget, if Apple Cider is too expensive, you can use white vinegar too. The mother ( that slimy, dark matter on the bottom of the Apple Cider vinegar container) has enzymes and other good stuff that can assist a little bit. But white vinegar will be fine too.
I’m so relieved that you addressed this. I love the way you use natural remedies. With this pandemic I can’t get my dog treated unless it’s life or death. Thank you!

@@VeterinarySecrets wow I would not ever have thought of that, Thank You So much, He's doing great again bless him
Mines is swollen and red and bleeds sometimes. But won’t let me anywhere near nails. So any advice for a natural sedative to relax him in a very calm state to try these options? Or even for nail clipping ?
You can use CBD oil if you have it. There are other options in this video

@@VeterinarySecrets thank you so much
Would you recommend wrap the paw after putting on the honey just so there’s no licking
Thanks so much, your the best
glad to help!
Can you use fresh garlic if so how much per day ?
My dog has SLO for dogs. He had to have 2 toenails removed and part of one toe from this and a biospy was done to verify the do. He now takes Omega 3,6,9 daily and naicimide 2 daily and he takes doxycycline 50 mg bid. But only give the antibiotic when his nails begin to split. Other meds everyday. Was dx 3 yrs ago and he rarely get a bad flat up, maybe once a year.
Hi Anita, good to know it can be managed with these meds- it can be extremely difficult to treat
What is SLO?
Do you have any suggestions
;D Thank you Tula , give your Human a treat , he was a good boy in your video
Thanks
would coconut oil work as a treatment as well?
My dog hurt her paw and may have a yeast infection so trying soaks and keeping her from lickking but it's swollen up now
Sounds more like a bacterial infection- consider topical green tea/lavender oil soak, along with oral propolis. 500mg/50lbs twice daily. Also I encourage you to get a copy of my free book at veterinarysecrets.com/
So what about a black tea poultice for the infected nail beds?
I’ve taken my dog to four vets and no one has ever seen a dog nail infection or thinks my dog has a problem. It’s so horrible! He’s dealt with it for years. The nail bed flakes, is swollen and I have to soak in a water hydrogen peroxide mix every day. No one can help me! I’m looking forward to hearing more on your video now.
Hi JL- yes sounds like a fungal infection. Can you get them to do a swab/biopsy
How to heal this at home?
My vet is having me soak twice a day in Epsom salt and warm water for 10 minutes. Then I use apple cider vinegar and water (1 part apple cider vinegar to 2 parts water) and dab that on the infected area with a cotton ball several times a day.
If you only soak the nail bed will it work or do you need to do everything in the video
how about iodine or neosporin? does it work too?
Do we wash off the tea after soaking? As wouldnt they want to lick the tea covered paw? :o
Between the black tea and the green tea/vinegar im leaning toward black tea since im worried the vinegar will sting his raw skin... thoughts?
Yes the black tea is less irritating. I would consider antibiotics now.
Good idea. I suggest only using colloidal silver topically, although many people to give it to their pets orally
@@VeterinarySecrets so far it is a simple application and quick. Will report back with results.
It appears to be a success. No more licking and gnawing. The burgandy-ish discoloration of the nail is going away. I would apply it around the base of the nail with a Q-tip.
cheaptick - your post about colloidal silver and the q tip is application is greatly appreciated.
@@laurieanne2791 I went to a colloidal silver gel with aloe vera - two good things in one - with Q-tips but the problem persisted. DOUXO Chlorhexidene Mousse from the vet takes care of occasional occurrences. I rub it in good and he stops licking.
How is the symptoms?
Hi there doctor, I've been soaking my dogs paw with water and some white vinegar solution, then applying some Neosporin ointment on the affected nail for about a week, but when I stopped it came back. Any comments if vinegar is good?
The vinegar may be helping but needs to be applied for two to four weeks.
tula your such a good sport
Yes
+Veterinary Secrets what if the nail infection has gone into the bone??????
Doc, have you ever heard of sugardine? would it be good for this type of infection? and also instead of using Betadine or povidone iodine can you use lugol's iodine which is much cleaner and doesn't have all the chemicals in it to make the sugardine?
Butch Schultz good question
I have Lugals by J Crew iodine will this work?
Lillys nails are turning black at the roots. Shes been furiously licking one looks bad. Help.
How about honey garlic ferment?
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on RUclips, very useful information.
You are welcome :-)
sir why don't you come online for answering our questions ? 🤔🤔
Our dog suffering from nail bed infection, it is ferocious so it won't allow to touch it's wound. Can you please suggest any medicines for this??
What did you end up doing?
is cocount oil good in this case or not becuse is anti bacterial?
Yes - it is antibacterial
My dog broke his toe nail but not all the way, about 1 1/2 to 2 inches is left. The quick is still exposed but dried, never saw any blood. I have noticed that the quick is still hanging on. Do I need to keep it wrapped ? the nail that broke is not even and cannot be trimmed because of the quick. It's been a week already, there is no sign of a infection and the quick feels hard. Will this take care of itself or do I need to take him in to have the rest of the nail removed? I'm keeping the paw wrapped and clean for now but I'm not sure how long I need to keep that up.
Hi - it should now heal at home. Keep wrapped, clean for 7-14 days. Consider topical honey after soaking
Veterinary Secrets thank you
I was trimming the hair around my dogs feet and noticed what looks like dirt around the nail bend and top half of the nail.
Welcome!
PLS can you tell me if this means your crushing or pressing garlic or is it a dried powder or something pls?

Cats paw can also be soaked in tea? Or just dogs?
Do you wrap the foot to keep them from constantly licking.
If excessive then yes
Tula looks like,... "I didn't sign up for this." :)
:-)
My dog continues to find ways to eat his toe after a nail infection. I believe it’s infected again. The skin around his toe is also raw and looks like a crushed raspberry. Is it safe to soak it in black tea even though his toe has an open wound ?
Yes
What about basil?
How do these treatments compare in effectiveness to conventional antibiotics?
Never as fast, potentially safer
Just a note on antibiotics. I havent taken antibiotics in 25 yrs and have never had colds flu or any infection in that time
Side note on antibiotics.
After gently washing should I rinse her paw off?
hello sir my dog is ascites patient plz tell me homeopathy medicine
Dandelion leaf tincture is best. 1 ml/ 40lbs twice daily
So I can use any organic honey ?
Yes you can
How can I treat my dogs dark red nails?
