Our dog did this until we tested her allergies. She was allergic to all typical proteins. We had to put her on special dog food. So expensive. But her issues stopped!!
@@hangin-in-thereawesome4245 did you have the allergy test to determine what your pet was allergic to? There are many special formulas. You need diagnostics to narrow down issues. Our dog was allergic to grass and dust. So we also had to change how we stored food and not let her out after cutting the grass. You really should find a vet who is good.
my dad did that to we had to take him to the vet fast because he was hitting and licking his paws so bad that they started showing blood and flesh and it was just all raw
My Cockapoo had allergies. She licked her paws til they were copper color from her saliva. The vet said to wipe her paws with sensitive baby wipes when she came back in from the yard. One day I noticed her paws were no longer discolored.
Our poor little rescue Morkie suffered with terrible skin issues. She was seen by so many vets and the only relief she ever had was on steriods. Tried all sorts of food exclusions, even had the carpet removed incase it was a dust allergy. Her ears were just as bad, it was terrible not being able to find the cause.
My dog is allergic to certain grass and her allergies flare during spring and summer. She gets a Cytopoint injection as soon as she starts licking her paws. Just a suggestion for anyone reading. It stops the itch cycle.
The problem started every year on 1 February, like clockwork, and lasted till November, give or take a few weeks. At long last, the solution was stumbled upon - when we moved! The cat had roamed the great outdoors behind the cottage, in a pretty wet grass area, and apparently had picked up something that thrived there through the long growth season in Ireland, which had caused the allergy. In the new place the problem never came back.
Dexter is allergic to his shadow. So he is on a hydrolized protein diet at this point. He also has atopic dermatitis and somewhat frequent skin infections. He is under the care of a doggie dermatologist. He is a special needs dog, and also my service doggo
My dog was suffering for years with this, kept telling me its allergies. The allergy meds kept leading into a secondary skin infection that broke out into painful bleeding blisters. Long story short, turns out it was cancer. She had cancer all along and it was on stage 3 when eventually her new vet found out what was actually wrong. Shes in remission as off today! No ichy paws, no skin issues, no blisters, no redness. People get your dogs tested for cancer, dont take it as allergies, i wasted tons of money on useless allergy meds that never worked, then antibiotics to fight the secondary skin infections.
In the follow-up part of the visit the doctor is evaluating Lulu's front paws ... it's the back paws that were the problem and under the chin. The vet didn't revisit these areas!!

My dads ex girlfriend’s dog (who looks similar) did this one time. Locked himself raw on one paw. I don’t remember how they fixed it but he never did it again once it healed
@@vision1707 unfortunately I haven’t spoken to him in 15 years. Sorry! I think the vet gave him some sort of topical cream and a cone so he couldn’t lick it and they applied it multiple times a day.
I don’t recall allergies being very common among dogs through the second half of the 1900s, but it appears to be more and more common of late. I wonder what the cause of this increase might be. What dictates the choice of single protein? I have seen alligator, salmon, duck, and now chicken, and just wondered if it matters which protein source one chooses.🖤🇨🇦
Well the main point mentioned was to have just one protein so it was easier to tell if it was or wasn’t causing issues. So maybe it doesn’t matter what is used as long as it isn’t a mix. I imagine over the long term you could start adding other stuff back in one at a time to see if it was or wasn’t okay. Which is how we did some of our (human) reaction testing. Go right back to the absolute basic items that aren’t likely to cause issues and then slowly add one group of foods back in and see if it does or doesn’t cause reactions then build up the ‘safe’ base from there. The biggest issue was sometimes reactions were delayed or could even need a certain amount of buildup in the body before a reaction happened so trying to pinpoint the culprit was sometimes hard, although a food diary could maybe help a bit as well to keep track of what and wasn’t needed
Just like any other causes of death during the 1500s. Nowadays, there are a lot of diseases which already existed during that time but due to lack of research and studies, researchers don't even have knowledge of giving a name to a certain kind of illness.
usually dogs who are hypoallergenic who look cute like this one ex; yorkies, poodles, maltese, Shih Tzu, They are very picky n allergic to most average food other bigger dogs eat. i know bcuz i have two n they had allergy problems before when i didnt know this knowledge after doing my research i got them into human-grade food beef n veggies + human-grade treats, they are healthy no more allergies, no more eye stains mouth or paw brown stains. Also filter water n clean them shower them after they go outside. These type of cute dogs need a lot of good quality care n food to live a longer healthy life. Some vets dont know at least here in usa. they told me to give them lamb food kibble but 99% of kibble brands are made with dead or sick animals - cows / lamb /pork/ chicken. the meat that humans cant eat based on quality they make it into dogs or cat food so thats why they were having allergies to kibble. NOW my dogs eat human-grade food since they were 3yo now 8yo. They dont have any health problem n they get their teeth brush too.
it hasn't been that easy for our dog. after trying different foods and a few hundred dollars for an allergy needle and variouscreams at the vet, nothing helped. it appears to be something the dog is walking / sitting on. so frustrating to see your pet sssssssuuuffering!
No, but have been reading about probiotics for dogs. Some suppliers make some pretty big claims about the benefits of their products. I'm sceptical after my experiences. The single protein diet is also an option. Haven't decided yet.
My four year Dalmatian Perdi has the same issue Lulu has. Poor love has been licking so vigorously that she ends up putting her feet in her water bowl and the backyard pool to get any sense of relief. Feeding a raw diet in generally recommended but with Dals being at risk for developing uric stones from an excess amount of dietary proteins... I am at a crossroads when it comes to picking out a change in dry food -_-,
My shin Tzu has terrible allergies. I've tried everything to calm her itching. Plus $spent at the vets. Right now she is taking armed for thyroid and finishing up with some predzoine. Also has a shampoo to be used three times a week. But she is still broke out and her fur is gone in lots of spots where she has licked. She also has an odor that even after a bath she still smells. She is 13 yo and I hate to see her in such misery. Anyone else have this problem?

Home cooked meals usually sorts abnormal licking at feet. I’ve known many dogs that home cooking has worked for.
I agree with you. I don’t know why owners still feed animals kibble. It’s not natural.
My 2 Shih Tzu"s get allergy shot it helps alot,
I about cry how that scratch... I also use Allergy Shampoo that really helps

Nice to care animals in your country ❤❤❤ but in my country sometimes I just feed the street dog people around them get angry.
Apart from allergies ticks can sometimes also be the cause of licking in dogs.
I'd imagine that allergies are fairly common in mix breed dogs. Along with a few pedigree breeds too.
