Cut my first yard pro in 1983. Imagine our reaction to the first stick edger. But mowers are getting too heavy. A 36 or 48 with a sulky are good enough for my needs.@@sololawnprofessional
I just saw a Weibang version on sale here in Ireland, that looks good. I usually use a large Husqvarna brush cutter with a harness, but it's brutal on the body.
From my experience, the handheld string trimmer brush cutter is a little quicker, but the walk behind is definitely less strenuous on the body, especially with the self-propelled model
I do use mine in the yard, but I do miles on Mountain Bike Trails, for years, I have the new head, much easier, I've done 5 miles in a day, both sides so 10 miles it just works, with multi passes, a bushhog gets the big stuff, but the DR is great for ease of use, so light it goes places you won't believe, and if it tips over its easy to right, easy to load and unload, makes it fun, and very hard working. In the open areas I sometimes make 4 to 6 passes just to keep the tall stuff from leaning on the trail.. a workhorse like no other. I carry a Silky Zubat 330 saw for the bigger stuff, I also use that as a machete too, thats a great team, if the left one don't get ya, the right on will.. ;)
Thanks for the great video review. Would definitely consider one for my needs. I noticed that you replaced the original Briggs engine with a Predator. Did you buy the DR new? Wondered if it came with a defective engine?
I got this second hand. It had a really nice b&s with electric start It was smoking really bad. Unfortunately, the predator is not as powerful as what was on there to begin with, but still works perfectly fine.
I bent the main pulley pretty bad using the puller but Dr Trimmer sells the pulley that I needed must be a common problem. I replaced the engine 8 years ago.
What about commercially/almost daily lawncare / landscaping? Anyone got any recommendations on these string trimmer mowers? Sidenote: I hope someone buys and reviews/compares a couple “walk behind string trimmer mowers” brands of these in a video one of these days to see which one is the best. I think they’re pretty cool and wonder if I should opt for getting one to start out landscaping over a push mower and regular string trimmer and get those later?:)
I do lawn maintenance full-time. You should stick with a regular push mower and string trimmer if you want to charge people money. A walk behind string trimmer can obviously cut grass and trim but it's not an all-in-one machine to replace a lawn mower. For the cost of this trimmer, you could buy a really nice push mower and a really nice commercial string trimmer and a hand blower to go with it.
This is a great tool if you have a lot of tough stuff to knock down but your new shindaiwa or the Echo 2620 are a close second for knocking down tough stuff.
A good hand held string trimmer would be faster. There's a lot of extra movement pushing that thing forwards and backwards over and over again. Maybe find yourself a good used Gravely brush hog?
I agree about the handheld string trimmer, but some people just don't have the ability to carry one for an extended amount of time. Also, this is a lot easier to use if you have a lot of area to cover and then a regular string trimmer.
A good hand held trimmer would be faster? Maybe if you had a hand held trimmer with a 170cc 4-stroke engine. Maybe you're strong enough to handle 50+ pound handheld whacker but most ordinary mortals will prefer the wheels. 😁

I kinda like the string setup. Is it 115?
The string is .175 for heavy cutting, for normal grass cutting, you can run a regular trimmer line .105
