@@reptongeek I never paid attention to this detail. Generally I ignore the item count at th end. I watched the run that I made on my channel and I made 100% items too :)
It's amazing to think that ID didn't design Doom to be this flexible and adaptable, they just did such solid programming and made such good design decisions that it was a natural consequence.
This game was released the same year I was born. My first time playing this was when I was seven. My uncle had it on the PS1 and I was terrible at it. I couldn't even beat the first map without dying at least once. Nowadays, with twenty five years of experience and studying your videos, I've finally managed to beat Episode 4 on Nightmare. I give all the credit to you for that. Your videos helped me alter my strategies to finally complete my most difficult achievement.
For anyone who doesn't know, John Romero livestreams his working on SIGIL 2 on twitch! He even sometimes answers questions in the chat. Def check it out.
Wow what a rush! Decino: “E1M6, I am not worried about you, combat is fairly easy…” E1M6: “No. Hold my beer.” Great perseverance man. Excited to see the ginormous next level, Computer Station took me a decent amount of time to conquer my first time through😵💫
Nightmare mode seems really demanding - you pretty much have to move directly from objective to objective with no dillydallying and no wasting time. So I'm impressed how this self-imposed "100% Items" challenge requires decino to go _everywhere_ and put even more of a strain on his resources than normal.
The Pinkies were no joke this level, nicely played. You flew through this one so quickly I actually forgot it was Nightmare with respawning enemies for a minute!
200% Health and armor on Nightmare seems like a impossible task, but there you go! The only bad thing is it won't last long :( The ending was very intense
That second death was like reaching the summit of Everest, only to run out of oxygen and perish as you're climbing your way through a storm back down to base camp
Hey Decino, just wanted to say this is really great series! I remember trying Nightmare on E1M1 as a kid and never touching it again, even all these years later. Crazy to see something so familiar but also so different.
For my own enjoyment, I've modded the health and armor bonuses in DECORATE to not count as items (and to not be picked up at 200%). The item count on maps dropped *_DRAMATICALLY,_* like 90-95%. It's so liberating, and I recommend any ZDoom+ players do it.
Amazing as usual :) I've never played Doom with an objective in mind (other than "beat the level"), that makes it so much more intense. I could listen to your calm style of commentary for hours - which I already did in your other, longer, playthroughs. Looking forward to E1M7!
Hiya decino- just posting to say that your vids introduced me to UVMAX doom, and I beat plutonia MAP32 right as this was posted. I literally couldn't have done it without you - the bfg analysis video should be on its doom wiki page, as it explains tracers better than any text ever could. Keep it up.
Dam that final death because of missing the item I think I would restarted and that's only because I know where my skill is at but fair enough bit cheeky that shotgunner getting you through the wall lol anyway been really fun watching these so far looking forward to seeing those later levels in the next few few episodes I can't even imagine what that's going to be like on nightmare if I remember correctly as a kid playing this I think I tried nightmare once maybe twice pretty sure it was once never made it past the first episode I know nowadays that I most likely could beat the game on nightmare it is crazy to think that what seemed impossible at the time is well not actually that hard anymore though years of gaming has some what improved my skill which helps lol anyway as always Cheers for upload decino
Most hatred of this Nightmare Mode map, period. I died a ton of times trying to beat this one. I was satisfied when I finally beating this map after many oh so many tries. Like before I am not fast for any Shooter games. I'm more of slow and steady and making sure I avoid pretty nicely. Aside from all that sense, you did an excellent job beating this. Can't wait for next map for Arrival as well. 😀
@@christiangottsacker6932 You know what? I think I did eventually. More importantly my brother was the one that got the rest of the items for me when we did 2 player Nightmare Mode. Doing it alone I think it is hard so.....yeah I guess you can argue and say it doesn't count if your doing this game co-op with your brother so....my bad. Maybe one day I'll do it again except alone myself which is still pain. 😞
Decino! just in case u see this, i wanted to say i love your videos and been watching them since i think 2019 and funny enough your older videos were you break down how DOOM functions have really helped in my coding classes ( I am studying game design)
Would be interesting to explore that "through the wall" bit at the end, had it happen to me on one of GZDoom's TC mods. It's as if the hitscan was already locked on you, so it doesn't bother to check the line sight even if you moved out of the way at the last second.
As someone who's never really bothered with Nightmare difficulty or even watched any playthroughs on it by others, i really didn't appreciate how hard it can be! Especially in hitscan heavy maps like knee deep in the dead's! Good idea to do this decino, offers up something different from the norm. 👍
At first I was disappointed that Decino would be going back to vanilla Doom, but these Nightmare playthroughs are gripping. Extra fast Pinkies and fuzzy sowftware rendering Specters are a frigging nightmare.
This is making me want to play The Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 on Nightmare also. Maybe try continuous. Despite playing these games since Doom E1 was shareware, though, I actually don't remember all the secrets in either game.
I remember watching Peter do his charity livestream of this challenge, and the items on this map ruined his runs again and again and again. I also just tried this last night with fast monsters and that last pack of spectres killed all my runs.
It felt like at times you were used to DOOM 2's one shot dead Pinkys via the SSG. . . . but then went - oh crap - no SSG so had to quickly swap back to the chaingun to stun lock them.
Fun fact about the red key in this map: depending on the angle and speed you approach it you can pick up the red key without triggering the monster closets and you can just wait for that door to open back up
Great run as always Decino. It's crazy that you're blazing through the whole chapter without major issues or problems on Nightmare. Are you planning to do Episode 2 and 3?
When I was a child, I never have finished Doom I and II, and I was playing them like, one day I played the first one, the next day, I played the second one. And because of that, my memory made it, that I thought that in that big room, with red keycard, it were chaingunners, that were coming out of walls, after taking red keycard
Oh god, that room of doom at the end really is the nastiest bit of episode 1. It's nuts to think some of the original maps are still able to kill decino under the right conditions.
Interesting. When I did this on Nightmare on PS4 (mind you, it was coop Nightmare too), I found E1M5 and E1M6 to be the most difficult. But OK, I didn't go for 100% items so maybe that's the difference.
Okay e1m6 they're going to particular is a bit of Maze remember the first time I play this map believe it or not I got lost the first time that I played even with the map but eventually I hang of it and the reason like that about this map is the music I don't know why I just I love the music that much that it kept me a little pumped out other than that it's a pretty decent map and by the way this is the map that I practice as a kid in nightmare mode, yep using the IDCLEV to warp to Map 6 just to pratice and that's what I realize that the nightmare difficulty it's no joke unless you're really good at it it took me a me quite awhile to beat the map and finding all the secrets and items. I don't know if I can do that now as an adult.
This is probably the hardest map so far (besides E1M3), I start with 70% health, and I almost always get absolutely crapped on by the shotgunners taking half of my health away in a blink of an eye; and don't even get me started on the overweight pigs that are scattered around the map, they ALWAYS block your path, they almost always ruin any sort of plan you have as their movement is extremely unpredictable. The only time I have even been CLOSE to beating this map is in the blue room. FUCK THIS MAP
I feel like this series encourages people to scatter health and armor bonuses throughout their levels. You never know, there may be a category or rule in the future where uv-max or something means getting all of the items!
Looking forward to e1m8 probably my favourite level but can't take your time with the barons because of respawning pinkies though shouldn't be too bad long as you don't get cornered
This has the highest enemy count of any map in The Ultimate Doom. Even the maps in Si6il don't exceed this total - well it don't if you don't count Lost Souls. If you do there is one map with more than 177 enemies
Feels crazy to know that 30 years ago Nightmare difficulty was considered impossible, now we have decino just doing it casually.
I'm just expecting E4M6. Never watched someone doing NM+100% Secrets with 100% Itens included.
It's not that hard honestly. Most speedruns of E4M6 that I've watched collect 100% items naturally as there is only (I believe) four on the map
Today you have (much) better graphics and you play with a mouse.
If you try it with keyboard and 1994 resolution, it would be near impossible.
@@reptongeek I never paid attention to this detail. Generally I ignore the item count at th end. I watched the run that I made on my channel and I made 100% items too :)

100% Items turns from a sometimes being an annoying easter egg hunt into survival horror on Nightmare! it's kinda epic.

Wow, having to retrace one's steps on Nightmare is just suicide. Another great run, decino.
The fun part is the speed though. Since everything is on a timer it really makes you feel lile a badger backed into a corner

That Shotgun Guy did the Wanted / bend the trajectory of his shot to get Doom Guy behind the corner, it’s truly impressive.
