I live in Rome georgia, 75 miles nw of atlanta, this was 2000 summer sanitarium tour, i was there, actually, with james hetfeild not being there, it turned into this spontaneous live moment that was one of a kind. we saw all of korn perform a second short set, and they mixed it up, feildy sang, davis played drums for a rendition of that song from the end of up in smoke, "momma talkin to me tryin to tell me how to live"

I was there that night. It was amazing!!! Yeah James was hurt in a jet skiing accident, but let me tell you the jam session with all the other bands was simply bad ass!!! Besides, 'Tallica came back later and did another concert- free. SO it was all good. Unforgettable evening.

This show was epic and a part of rock & roll history. Yes I was there with my son, James, and one of by best friends, Andy, and his son. System of the Down, Korn and Kid Rock played before Metallica were to start their set. Kid Rock and Lars gave us the bad news that James would not be there and Metallica was not going to play. Something, like a jet ski accident on Lake Lanier. Now I don't know about that, but he was a no show. The guys next to us had come all the way from New York and I would say they were a little $%#$ed. Tensions were hot on the floor, however Kid Rock and Lars asked the audience to be calm and not tear the place down and let them go back stage and get some songs together and they promised they would give us something we wouldn't forget. They did! Not much of a Kid Rock fan until after the show and I realized how truly talented he was and the respect he had from the other musicians, including Metallica. He was pretty much the leader. I was completely blown away when the first song they did was Kid singing vocals and Metallica playing "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield (Stills,Young, Messina). Who would have ever guessed. It just rocked and made it even more special that those hard rockers would pull a song out of their hat like that. Even Serj Tankian from System of the Down had made it back to his hotel after their set and heard on the radio what was happening. He took a taxi back to the venue just to be apart of it. He pulled out some old Metallica, I didn't even recognize, probably from their warehouse days, which Lars was trying to get him to stop playing, however when Serj started you could see the look on Lars face he was blown away and they went for it and it absolutely rocked. The show was amazing, and at the end Lars told everyone who was holding a ticket they would be back in August for a free show and just to bring your ticket and you were in for free. We had given up our paper tickets to get on the floor for wristbands. Andy's son had exchanged all the tickets for the wrist bands. Bummer! I looked over at Justin and said "that is to bad". He looked at me and pulled all the paper tickets out of his pocket. I said Justin "where did you get those tickets" I thought you gave them up". He didn't want to tell us, but when the dude handed him the wrist bands he ran. I said "why would you do something stupid like that". He said he wanted to be on the floor, but wanted a souvenir to hang on the wall. Bonus! I laughed. Those kids were 13 and they got to experience, at such a young age, a part of rock'n roll history. Thanks to the Kid, Lars and all the amazing artist that shared their genius with us that night rather than calling it quits. You guys did it unconditionally not for the love of money, but the music. Sorry for being long winded, but this historical event deserves some explanation. Oh and by the way, we saw them a month later at Lakewood for another amazing show. Free! FOREVER ROCKIN!

They did. Before Metallica & Co hit the stage Lars announced it and Jason added that, James is the toughest mofo he knows, he wouldn't say 'no' unless he absolutely had to.

Seriously, why the heck is he sitting down?!?! And out of all the times to be sitting down, why did he do it during the heaviest part of the song?! Gahh... This is why Metallica tops Korn.
