What are you talking about, flame maple top? That is a spruce top. Nice tight grained SPRUCE. No maple about it. Likely maple back and sides.

Maybe the reason the headstock is a tight fit in the case is cause those Grovers aren't the original tuners?

Ignore the peanut gallery. It’s the design just as much as the player. Hollowbodies have their own sound, and these “staple” pickups are certainly doing something to the sound
