As SOON as he said he lives in the universe I was like ohhhh man he’s speaking Damon’s language! Love watching you attract what your soul needs and loves 💕
I think they speak slowly because Spanish is not their mother tongue, they speak another language specifically, i think Damon or Miguel told in the video 🤙🏻
Half Guatemalan half Mexican here, Dad is full Guatemalan - they speak slowly and clear 99% of the time! I live in San Diego, CA where there’s a lot of Mexicans and most of my friends are Mexican. I remember first meeting their families years ago and being kind of shocked at how quickly everyone speaks and it took me a while to get used to because I was so used to listening to my Dad :)
I realized that too. I'm like, 10 duolingo chapters type of Spanish speaker and I usually can't understand most of what people say but here and in the previous video I understood most of it.
Yes, this is why it's a great place to study Spanish! Lovely clear accent. And of course, for many Guatemalans Spanish is also their second language so they do speak a bit more slowly.
This semester for my global tourism class, we had to read "A Small Place" by Jamaica Kincaid and she goes into both sides of the how tourists and locals view each other. Not only that, but also the history of how tourism started and the damage that it does but also the benefits that it can give the locals. Its a really good book and does get you the real thoughts from the locals.
Oh my goodness I just saved this book, thanks to your rec, and I think I’ll read it with my students next semester! (I’m an English teacher in a faculty of tourism at a French uni) 🫶🏻🤩
can we just admire how strong D is ? likeee how is he pushing a motorcycle with one hand and holding his camera rig in the other… and the footage isn’t hella shakey?!!??!???
I just love you. You are so thoughtful and intelligent. You are also brave and daring. If I was your mother I would be worried about you constantly. But you do have years of experience and a very good head on your shoulders. By the way, I'm 61...
Yo you dont know how much I appreciate that you can talk to these people, being able to talk to folks in their language allows you to get a deeper connection. Super sick
im glad to finally see someone shed some light on central american countries and all of the beautiful underrated places that it has to offer! also your storytelling/editing lately has been truly *chefs kiss*
I get so excited for each new episode!!! love watching all your adventures and the interesting people you come across, like hello Miguel getting all real and spiritual - he seems like a great guy!!
I lived in Guate for a year from 2020-2021 because my partner is from there. I appreciate your attention to detail and willingness to show a slice if what its like to be there. One video is not going to show everything ofcourse. Also yes the homophobia is real lol I was there with my girlfriend and I cant tell you how many times they just assumed we were sisters.
Lovers this video. Who would love to see Damon travelling to some of the other French speaking countries in the Caribbean i.e. Martinique, Guadeloupe for some of us who do not want to go Europe or have been to French speaking countries in Europe.
Hey! Just wanted to say while I loved the last video, I loved this one more, because you showed what you cut from the last one, and not all of it was pretty. Seeing that Guatemala is a real place, with good and bad, scams and great experiences, and learning that you as an artist are choosing to portray a specific image of the area was really valuable. It actually made it more interesting to me actually. It's like when I moved to Porto, I heard it was all like "oh Porto is amazing, it's idyllic, etc etc", and I was actually really excited to find out that it's got waaaay to many wild cats, and a big problem with housing being bought and left empty by investors. It made the city feel more like an actual place, rather than a fantasy, and I think places and people are way more interesting with a bit of good and bad. Of course it's up to you, but I like seeing a few of the bad, boring, or challenging conversations. The messiness and contradictions of traveling appeal more to me than any specific viewpoint. I really liked the video :)
Damon! Send them a validation letter; if it's medical in the USA they have to respond with the specific information about how the debt was collected. If they don't respond with the proper docs in 30 days the debt is erased. If they do, you can negotate it down as the company who bought the debt did so for pennies on the dollar. Worth it, at the least it'll save you a few hundred bucks.
I'm always so excited to see you've uploaded!! And especially as a tourism management student, I'm so happy to see you talk about the impacts and the "image of the locals" as well!
Dude! So glad you said it straight up! Lived in Paris for 8 yrs could not get down with the people! Made friends with expats from all over, but not so many french friends. How is everyone always in a shitty mood, like everyday?Moved back to California (not before getting my citizenship tho) and can confirm there is something in France that I'll never understand, but i do love that country so much! Anyways love love love your videos 💓
I'm writing a paper at the moment for my masters that's around the idea of buen vivir or "good life" which is an indigenous idea about the way of life and rights of nature in that region, that's actually been constitutionalised by Ecuador and Bolivia in the 2000s. It super interesting concept and I feel like I'm getting some perspective about how that actually translates to everyday life from your vlogs. Thanks Damon!
Damon, you have the best travel series on the internet imo. I believe that the lens (and languages!) through which you traverse the world is authentic, and you curating the clips that you would like to portray each location's message is an artistic choice that I respect. It's definitely not your job to present every side to the story anyways - leave that for the more academic documentaries, and others to go out and see for themselves. Keep doing you! I always look forward to catching up to your adventures.
Creo que la gente que vive en conexión con la naturaleza suele ser más relajada y espiritual. Mismo acá en Argentina la gente de ciudad 🙋 es totalmente distinta a la que vive en playa o en montaña.
watching all the ads and this video at 1x so I can help you with American health care. As a European it's just a nightmare even to think about that so you have all my support 🥲 I'm loving this new season on the channel 🥺
Damon you are so effin funny and crazy in a GOOD WAY!🤣😁 You provide such good info on the places you visit. This 'ol' grandma loves you and thinks you're sweet as pie lol! Keep it rollin'! ☮️❤️❤️❤️😎
You realizing the reason why you fit in France is the peak moment of the video! So yeah people, if you want to enjoy it to its fullest you gotta watch it all!!!
Plus I'm gay and Guatemalan American (born in Guatemala with American parents; lived there my entire childhood until I was 17), and I got to say, I didn't realize how bad the homophobia was in Guatemala until I moved to Texas for university, and found it more accepting in Texas (out of all places). People just assume homosexuality doesn't exist over there. I'm always assumed I am straight.
Hi Damon, good to see you again :) My husband and I are moving back to Porto, Portugal, after 6 years of living in Ireland. If you visit Portugal you are welcome to stay with us, it would be a lot of fun.
I swear, you meet the awesome-est people out in this world. They really have way of viewing things that make you realize that everything you thought you knew, could be wrong.
Loved this mini series! And reality of tourism. It was a great message you promoted on the video. Do you think you’ll ever start a patron or RUclips members for all the clips you didn’t put in this video? Would love to see them
On to thumbnail number 3 I see 😅 great video, makes me miss Guatemala. I lived there for 3 years before moving to Mexico where I am now and it was a tough place to live tbh, but there were many beautiful things about it as well!
Damon, thanks so much for not giving into black and white thinking. And for also recognizing (and embracing) that pure objectivity through a lens and an edited piece of work is impossible. Also Miguel, what a beautiful and wise person. 😌
Love the video and the bit where you explained what you choose what to put in, in the previous video. I've seen the around the world in 80 days editing process and i loved it. Could you do video explaining how you make and edit the more vlog-y real life videos? SInce there less control of what happens + the responsibility of how you portray a certain community's life experiences. Would love to see how you navigate that ! thanks!
Have absolutely loved those past two episodes in Guatemala!! We so rarely hear/talk about it in Europe, so it felt awesome to get to discover so much of it through your videos!
damon i literally discovered you 2 days ago and i'm binge watching your youtube. im moving to paris on august and you paris vlogs are the best. also i have a feeling we would vibe
Man i love you i love your content your humour and your intelligence im wishing you the best💜💜💜 also i dont know if you ever been to greece but if you havent id love to show you around
I can so relate with what you said about French people. I'm myself french and I ran away to other countries as soon as I could when I was 19 yo. But I still feel like culturally and technically it's the best place to be. Why are french people complaining all the time and so not easygoing ? Too much too deconstruct, too much of a sad story.
Also Damon, I wouldn’t pay a bill for a date of service 5 years prior. It sounds like it’s already in bad debt collections so I would ask some questions: how many times did the hospital send you a notice of your patient responsibility? Did they send it to the correct address? When? And I’m not sure if you can negotiate a smaller due balance by the time it goes to a third party for bad debt collections but it’s worth asking.
Damn Miguel getting all deep n spiritual at the soccer field -- SOMOS TODOS PRIMOSSSS
AND HE'S RIGHT TOO!
LMAP 💛💛💛💛
"If reincarnation exists maybe we'll see each other in another life" is how i will dumb people after a bad first date
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 stoppppppp
That is brilliant!!
The way they kept trying to convince Damon that he wasn't gay was sending meeeee 😭😭😭😭
As SOON as he said he lives in the universe I was like ohhhh man he’s speaking Damon’s language! Love watching you attract what your soul needs and loves 💕
It was only at the end of this video that I realized I was smiling like an idiot at my screen the entire time watching this :')
Same! :')
i love how slowly Guatemalans speak, it makes it so much easier to learn!
They don't really speak that slow. I think they did it to help Damon.
I think they speak slowly because Spanish is not their mother tongue, they speak another language specifically, i think Damon or Miguel told in the video 🤙🏻

Miguel really said, “You’re a RUclipsr, hey?… I can help you with that 😎” and he PULLED UP IN THE SRI LANKA 🏍🏍🏍
If Miguel doesn't win RUclipsr of the Year, I officially quit.

A very good book, highly recommend

“Cada momento es un milagro”, lets live our lives with that mentality everyday!!!
Dude was dropping knowledge bombs on and off the motorbike.
Can you please translate?
@@srimoyeemukhopadhyay3437 Every moment is a miracle
Hell yes, love that mantra
can we just admire how strong D is ? likeee how is he pushing a motorcycle with one hand and holding his camera rig in the other… and the footage isn’t hella shakey?!!??!???
I would’ve struggled drinking from that 3 liter water bottle 😭
It’s just amazing how Damon can talk deep talks in a completely different language from his own. and his editing skills….obsessed
I just love you. You are so thoughtful and intelligent. You are also brave and daring. If I was your mother I would be worried about you constantly. But you do have years of experience and a very good head on your shoulders. By the way, I'm 61...
Yes, yes, my mom is no longer surprised! Every phone call she reminds me to "be safe!"
we love the classic back and forth on the phone that damon cannot escape from lol
Being in some sort of paradise on earth, but still in a human-created, bureaucratic hell should be ILLEGAL!

@@damondominique naw I get so damn excited for these Damon! I enjoy every single one so much, theyre so well made too

I've been binge watching your videos for the last 3 days straight
PAYIN MY BILLS! thanks madi

I just love you man you are such a breath of fresh air on yt thanks for being 💗
We love a gentle self-roast/realization right at the very end, would it be a philosophical Damon video otherwise? 🙏
