I love Asmik-kun/Boomer. He's so cute. Every time I fired up a game by Asmik, I was happy to see the lil guy. Even with the nastiness, I would have enjoyed this game had it come out in the US. It's really pleasant to look at... but that's where my praise for the game ends. Even with cheats turned on (via game genie or savestates,) this is still frustrating to play. I just wanna play it to look at all the pretty 8-bit graphics, but I can't even appreciate them when I am being tricked into getting hit by something and killed in one shot, only to have to do the entire level from the start.
It's a bad sign to start the busiest Famicom week with this game. Looking at December 14, 1990 (one of the busiest days of Famicom releases in 1990 with 8 games), the quality sure had taken a back seat when companies are rushing out games this late. And also, I wonder if you like any of the Famicom games released around that weekend and if possible, had you beaten them during your record session?
@@RndStranger yeah, tbh the December 20 games had 4 red flags (one sugoroku, one baseball, this game, and The Untouchables), 4 games got out of Japan, and 2 Japanese exclusives (I only know Perman 2 a bit, not Monster Maker? by Sofel), so I didn't expect much about that. Edit: That banana game by Takara came out in Europe, sorry :(
This game is cute, but I hate how slow Asmik-kun moves. When I used the speed powerup, the game suddenly became fun for 5 seconds! I wish that was the default speed.
Isn't this the final game published by Asmik too? If so, they could've gone out on a better note for sure. It's just Wagyan Land, but considerably worse.
It is their last Famicom game, though Asmik has been such a minor presence on the system (and for video games in general), that got dropped from my notes because all I'd say is "This is the last game from a company that never amounted to much and no one cares about." I'd only have nice things to say about Cosmic Epsilon and the rest of their Famicom stuff wasn't really notable.
Asmik-kun is not Sonic, got it. I remember seeing ads for the game boy outing but never got around to it. Though this one sounds really rough and an easy pass, for sure.
I see you pulled out your inner AVGN at the end there. What were they thinking!
If you like me getting angry at games, you've got a good one coming up in this long weekend batch.

I agree because despite how seemingly cruel it is for no reason, I LOVE the art style
I haven't played this one, but I feel bad for the kid that chose this and/or The Untouchables out of that set of games shown 30 seconds in.
Is Asmik-kun's default attack a fart cloud?
Asmik kun gets destroyed by the cross and uses the hexagram (star of remphan) for attacking? He's Moloch! =P
Looks like it could have been a good game, if they didn't follow a design philosophy of "lmao got em"
Well, maybe that and if they also adjusted things so it didn't look like Asmik-kun was walking through treacle the whole time! 😆

I actually did beat one of them during my recording session, but probably not the one you're hoping for.

This has to be one of the worst-controlling games on the system. It's really THAT stiff.
