Congrats Djoker. Only Djoker could be 37 and win a gold medal. Stunning. I'm still going with my prediction of 3 years ago that one day Sebi will be #1 in the US. He's got work, of course, but he seems to be gaining in confidence and that, of course, can't be underestimated in improvement. Confidence is a key.
Djokovic winning was my highlight of the summer as a fan of sports and competition. Maybe even of the year!! That was such a BIG win! It only comes around every 4 years so it was an incredible outcome. The cherry is on top of the cake with this one. He delivered!!!
Not only, but the fact that he is 37 years old and it was most likely his last realistic chance (even with all the recent implications like knee injury, seemingly unbeatable opponent in final match, not having scored a victory over top-10 player or even won a single title all year etc...) even with all of that there was this feeling in the guts he still can pull it off! But four years from now aged 41 with many of today's young superstars becoming experienced players on top of their game and probably in their best shapes it going to be tough to even reach quarter-finals, let alone having a shot at gold! So i think this was his last real chance, imho! And he delivered! Miraculous outcome, that only seem to be happening in fairy tales with happy endings, yet here we are...
I would like to see a deeper analysis of these rankings. I have a feeling that I'm seeking Griekspoor in every tournament in 3-4 th round and was really surprised to see he's not in the top 20.
Djokovic winning gold is absolutely the biggest moment of the year for all of the historical significance behind it. I’m not ready to say “Best Match of 2024” because we still have some big tournaments ahead of us, but we’ll see.
The Olympics Gold Medal in Singles Tennis definitely makes Djokovic’s year. It was the only major title which had eluded him. Undeniably, the greatest and most accomplished tennis player of all time.
Djokovic can still catch up if he has successful run at the USO and Cinci coming up soon as i feel like he is in his spirited and uplifted mood now that he understands, that his level is high enough again to be completing and winning big titles imho! I wouldn't rule out cinci + USO combo for him meaning and huge almost double boost in his current race to Torino rankings! If my suspicion is correct he might still end up if not the best, then 2nd or at worst 3rd best player of the season only losing Alcaraz or Sinner or both of them, yet beating the rest!
I think if you play the Olympics that there should be some protected ranking for the athletes (maybe 4 weeks) before the points they accrued drop off. Side note: I keep doubting Djokovic ability to win especially after his injury a few months ago. Watch out though, as soon as I pencil him in as a winner, he's going to lose.🤭 He deserved and earned that win from Alcaraz.
Still I much prefer the results of the women's final, impressive sets Zheng 6-2, 6-3. While in men's final Djokovic struggled 7-6, 7-6 after so many years trying to win a gold medal, finally got it at age 37.
It's not fair to award points to players when someone lower ranked can participate over some high ranked player. If it was the same format as masters or gs, it'd qualify for giving points. This way, it favours some players over others
@@drudi1 Maybe they should award points for medals though. At the end of the day, finals are usually contested by top players and this is no different in the Olympics.
@ada5851 would those guys have gained points for 4 years or one year? Still seems a bit unfair. Do they count those points for atp finals? Too many weird questions which just make it impossible. I agree that it is dumb to organize other tournament during olympics as some players lost their ranking even though they've won medal but other than that, nothing much that can be done
@@drudi1 I see your point. I would maybe just treat the Olympics as a bonus 300 or 400-point event that occurs every 4 years, where the points only count for that year, so not quite an ATP 500 (to account for the lower competition). And there could be less or no points given for playing in the 1st-3rd rounds than would normally be rationed in other events, again to account for the lower competition. It would at least make it somewhat comparable to playing in DC which is a proper 500 event, and you wouldn't be able to play in both at the same time, so high-ranked players could still win points in DC if they don't make the cut for the Olympics. It doesn't have to be exactly like I suggest, maybe the experts would judge that it would be better as a 250 event, but I'm saying there are ways to still make the Olympics worth something in tennis rankings that would still be fair.
as a Korda fan I am very happy he won his first 500 title and make history with his dad. Congrats to Novak also even though I cant stand the guy, he has truly achieved everything now
I think you need a better camera tbh. Great content tho, but I don't want the quality of the camera to interfere with the general impression of your content.
Since Alcaraz skips National Bank Open 1000, then Djokovic officially equals Nadal who holds most weeks in top 2 with 596 weeks despite that record isn't important at all cuz Nadal is mr. no. 2 while Djokovic as mr no. 1 based on the most weeks at no. 1
Is it correct to say that if the olympics used to give 750 points and was before the 2009 ranking change, that would mean that had the system of points been kept, it would be 1500 points now. Had Djokovic gotten the points, he would have overtaken Sinner in the rankings to clinch #1 for likely not long as he has a lot of points to defend.

Next time is in four years. By then a new star can be in the way of Alcaraz, for example Fonseca.
