When you load the backhoe on the trailer don't have your front bucket so high. Lower it to change the center of gravity so the tractor doesn't bounce all over the place. There's a lot of weight on the back end. Good luck with your new adventure.

Be dam carefull to never shut the motor off with out letting her idle down, you can snap the cam shaft instantly,I know we had ours do it three times, found shutting off the fuel slowly helps. I have this same machine, if your only using it every once in a while there is a Lucas additive that conditions the seals for the hydraulics. I used a gallon of it one time and it didn’t leak oil out for 7 months. It would usually run it out in less than a week.
And finally, when I was your age I ran one of these on my first job. My first job off the farm. And it was this exact machine, except it was only a couple of years old.
case made a great backhoe, that’s a gem, you can make a good dollar with one of those. digging tree holes, swimming pools, septics, footings, loading trucks. yeah!
Just bought one of these, it is a 1974. The one I bought is working, just did 1.5 hours of dirt moving to check it out before I bought it. Great machine, way, way, way more than those chinese mini excavators.
Nice Backhoe! Note at 11:45 you have to have power to the large terminal on the starter for the starter to spin. With only power to the small start terminal it will only pull the solenoid in but not power the motor.
Just Subscribed. I ran 580 case backhoes a lot. The foot swing got to be too much for my ageing knees. When I bought a backhoe I got one with wobble stick controls.
Man it feels nice to see someone around my age fixing and messing with backhoes and skid steer. I just turned 25 and last year I had got me a 1983 JCB 1400B backhoe for my first piece of equipment. It was hell getting it back home, i had to buy a whole 20ft trailer, fix it up and restore just to be able to get the backhoe home. Another way to keep the front end on the ground with these older machines is scoop about a half a bucket of dirt into the front bucket--balances it out...
I didn’t know any better. Never had one. But I was just trying to be able to see the trailer I was driving up on. Shoulda had it lower when I drove off tho.
I bought this exact same backhoe, except mine has a cab. It was a heavy load. My cummins diesel was smoking going up hills with my 34 ft. triple axle. I paid $7500. Mine leaks all the hyd. oil out every day(seal betweent he clutch and transmission is bad).
To shut it off pull the fuel shutoff on the left side console by the steering wheel. That will kill the fuel to the carb. It should be pushed in to start out to stop.

From my experience with engines the worst thing you can do is put a Fram filter on.. they come apart and clogg everything.
Agree I don’t like them either but that’s all I had at disposal
I used em for years and never had a problem.
Must be luck or something, IDK.
How much did you give for it?
Just looked it up and the gas version is 3,638 lbs and the diesel is 3,836 lbs.
That’s wayyy off. Look in the forums. Not google awnsers
1968 case 580ck backhoe is about 8600-9500 pounds
Don't give it so much either.
That is why the engine would not turn very fast. Just give it a little shot.
It’s because it was filled with oil. The owner filled it with oil so it wouldn’t lock up
