Great video and thanks for the shootout, you did a good job at emphasizing on parts that I didn't talk about it in my review notably OP ,as I considered the set design itself and nothing surrounding it. Between your video and mine people should have a good overview of how the set went.
I thought it was a fine set, but didn't beat the hype that was around set 1. I'd probably have liked it more if I wasn't playing against Boba every three games.
Great video! I love how you break it down. I would love an update video on your opinion of the curve and ideal (or above average) stats per cost. Is it changing as we go into set three? Thanks for all the great work!
Thanks! Short version is set three doesn't IMO have any major changes there -- unlike set two there isn't a clear spot where the set "pushes the limit" as we saw with the three cost 3/5s and upgraded five-cost units going from set one to set two. I do think low HP units may prove more vulnerable thanks to more pings (Quinlan etc.) and potentially cheap tokens easily trading with them -- Death Star Stormtrooper looks a lot worse against a pair of 1/1 Battle Droid tokens than it does against a Battlefield Marine! That said, I'm not sure how the meta will shake out and a lot remains to be seen.
I think this was all spot on. Everything you said is pretty much what I have heard being echoed here in the UK. Fun set, poor theme, lacking wow legendaries (expect snoke). Set 3 is definitely going to be a level up
This is a very good analysis and pretty much matches my thoughts on the matter. Set 2 was weaker but way more accessible. Around here casual players can get their hands on Snokus or Krayt Dragons but getting a Luke or Vader is out of the financial range of most players. Stores are unwilling to drop the prices on cards that are highly in demand and impossible to obtain but it only results in more people turning away from the game.
Fortunately, I think that as the Set 1 reprint reaches more stores, we will likely see those prices drop. In my view some of the prices on Set 1 legendaries are due to higher power level, but shortages have also probably increased prices there as well relative to what they would be with "full availability".
Totally agree with theme, it wasn’t bad by any means but wish it was more neat. Even if it was “Disney” Star Wars. That would have been more interesting. I am excited for the future of the game regardless and hoping this holiday season will see an influx of new players
I have a feeling they avoided making a "sequels set" because they know fan reception of the sequels hasn't been as positive... I could be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if the first three sets were sort of "OT, prequels, Mandalorian" instead of "OT, prequels, sequels" in order to try to appeal to "more popular" eras of Star Wars... which would be a bit ironic given how set 2 landed!
I'm from Spain and Spanish cards are considerably more expensive. In fact, the Set 1 reprint is only going to be in English according to retailers. Which is baffling, considering that EVERY Spanish booster box sold like hotcakes.
@@TowerNumberNine Take this with a grain of salt, though. It's more of a "only English reprint is confirmed" and less "no Spanish reprint will ever be made". I asked two different retailers in two different cities, I received the same answer.
Most of the ways that you upgrade Follower of the Way improves stats in addition to the stat boost on the card. It isn't a 2 cost 2/4, it is usually a 2 cost 3/5. I understand that there is the extra step of giving it the upgrade, but you're still getting a 2-for-1. It feels like you're arguing that a 3/5 for two isn't worth it when you can get a native 3/3 in Battlefield Marine, but they are also different aspects.
I don't think you can count the upgrade stats because those stats would have gone to whatever other unit you upgraded as well. In other words, if you play a +1/+1 upgrade and make Follower of the Way a 3/5, you perhaps could have also played that on Battlefield Marine and made him a 4/4. (Now that doesn't strictly hold because you could use Mandalorian Warrior to buff Follower of the Way but not Battlefield Marine... on the other hand you could have used Wing Leader or Medal Ceremony to buff Battlefield Marine and not Follower of the Way!)
@@TowerNumberNine All true. I think that Follower of the Way is not the best example of why Mandalorians don't work. Yes, for the same cost, Battlefield Marine is better. Why not play BOTH in a Mando Heroic deck? Koska was a good example of why many of the new Mandos struggle. You have to wait an entire phase until her card text becomes relevant. You can improve FotW on your next action. Do take some time to try some Gar builds when you get a chance. He can wreck.
Limited with this set was much more fun than Constructed. I didn't partake in constructed with this set due to the meta. So set 1 was a lot better for constructed. Set 2 was better for limited. Hoping set 3 is good for both.
What did you especially like about set 2 for limited? I didn't go into detail on that here because I didn't think I played enough set 2 limited to draw an apt comparison.
I doubt he will be outright banned, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some other form of balance intervention taken against him -- whether that's some kind of nerf, a ban/restriction on some of his support cards, or something else.
Set 1 was way more powerful than set 2, even though we saw a little bit of power creep in set 2. For set 3, the legendary cards seem underpowered to me, and I don't know if there are enough good token generating cards for token decks to work competitively. I think we'll be seeing even more Boba Fett in set 3 meta.
To me set 3 legendaries seem in between sets 1 and 2 overall -- it's not almost all hits like set 1 but I don't think it'll have as many duds as set 2 either. I think Now There Are Two of Them in particular is going to be one of the strongest legendaries in the game...
@@TowerNumberNine Agreed that some of them look very good, but generally speaking I find them to be on par with set 2, or just...I think the term I'm looking for is "uninspiring"? Yeah, I think that sounds fair. Still, I will say that there are 5 of them which I would definitely like to have a playset of, compared to only 4 from set 2. I don't want to be pessimistic, I just want to be realistic with my expectations.

Set 2 kind of flopped in my area as we don't get big limited turn out, and the power level of the cards felt weaker so there was little impact in constructed. Just a bad Set theme, bad cards, and the lack of Set 1 availability hurt trying to get new players into Set 2

Boba is a simple fix. Errata to 6 resources, and maybe bump health down to 6, simply because of Boba’s Armor.
