That board moves so beautifully on the wave. No forced air revs, no stickers. Just the wave, surfer, and board all working in harmony. Stripping surfing back of all its ego.
I appreciate the "Morning of the Earth" inspired surfing. That style of surfing, with it's graceful arcs and down the line drive, is what attracted me to surfing in the first place.
I could watch this guy surf forever, it’s like going into a trance, like turning your mind off. Like when you watch tv but kind of day dream, but watching this is way better.
For me -- old school soul carver, TM is the best surfer in the world. He's what MR strove toward in the late 70's & 80's. He's Machado-- on entheogens.
What amazing footwork on a 5'4" fish, going backside... on proper sized waves... distinctly Torren Martyn style, with some new flare, and always that flow!
Agreed. Massive style, gets himself in the pocket, the nice big nose on that board allowing him to move forward in the tube and back on the face. I've been watching this guy's surfing everywhere and I feel like most of the guys on the ct couldn't do what he does half as well
@@joeblow1942 Me too. I changed my last thruster recently. Now, i have only twins, singlefin and finless (alaia). I'm so happy with my choices. Big hug, bro!
Fabiano Moraes Yeah, a year later and I’m still digging twins. I went from using big 6” MR 78 Originals with a nubster in the back center box and another nubster in the heel side back box to the newer 5 3/4” MR’s with the MR trailer in the back center and I think I’m liking it better. Still very fast, turny and drivey but I think has a broader range.
I have a similar custom shape made for me back in 2007. It's dimensions are 5'8" x 20,5" × 2.25" ... thinner the better on tail and nose. Ride till this day and one of my most used boards.
@@andrews9328 5,7 and about 76KG, but i dont want to base my dimensions on torren martyn lol, the guy looks like hes over 6' tall, and if he rides a 5,4' then that means i would need a 5,1' at least lol.
Good surfing. Twins are faster because there’s no back fin,if that helps. And if you’re all fired up to get one just like his, you will end up with limited turning abilities in bowling waves until you get back on your thruster. Mark Richard fooled us back in the 80s. The trend continues.
that's not why they are fast.. they are fast because they are wide, especially in the tail. what's the slowest board? a narrow pintail. because it sinks in the back and drags. The fattest and widest is the fastest as long as you can hold its rail.. the fins have a minor influence too, but not the back fin. The side fins cause drag when you go straight. that's why thrusters want to be surfed rail to rail. going straight, you're faster taking off the side fins and going single fin
Twins are fast loose and responsive, and flippen fun at that! The only thing limiting turning abilities will be the chunkiness of your rails! For example a traditional Fish may limit your turning ability to some degree, but it's a different way of surfing. The more modernised Fish, with thinner rails and pulled in tails, can do exactly what a thruster does, but just looser and FUUUUUN! (But thats just MY opinion based on two types of fish i surf, i'll still be your friend if you feel my opinion based on experience is of no merit to your experience) Have a nice day:)
Stop trying to turn a twin fin like a shortboard. Yes I know he did a couple cheater fives other than that with his back leg cocked he's got a bit of old school style but as soon as he comes out of the barrel he tries to hit the lip like he's on a Thruster.
I always regret not seeing the start of the wave. The take off on a little fish, always great art and the most interesting to see.
That board moves so beautifully on the wave. No forced air revs, no stickers. Just the wave, surfer, and board all working in harmony.
Stripping surfing back of all its ego.
watching this is a spiritual experience. The music, the style, that wave, I just keep coming back to this video

I like his style. Reminds me a little of Gerry Lopez. There has always been a place in surfing for this kind of soul. Rob Machado would approve.
Reminds me more of Terry Fitzgerald than Lopez.
Gerry Lopez, Rob Machado, Terry Fitzgerald and Michael February all have this free flow style
What amazing footwork on a 5'4" fish, going backside... on proper sized waves... distinctly Torren Martyn style, with some new flare, and always that flow!
Great time capsule and showing how to utilize the whole board.
He compliments and blesses the wave. Huge departure from present day surfing.
Wow,that board is so dialled !
Nice effortless soulful style and barrel technique is amazing !
15 dislikes .... 🤦🏼♂️
Love watching a good surfer on a fish in good waves
Torren Martyn have maybe the best surf style ever
That board is gorgeous I dig the moon tail 🤙🤙
So refreshing to watch this kind of 70's inspired surfing
I've never seen anyone surf so well backside in my life.
And riding a fish, don't forget that

I’ve never had a problem backside on a fish yet there are threads online about how some people can’t get it
AI
Backside is fun. Just surf a backside breaking wave exclusively for a bit and you'll get it down
Beautiful, surfing, waves and production. Great job. Thank you.
👏💫😙😚😙🐥💦☀️🌊
Sweeeeeeet coooool yeeeeeees yeeeeeeaaaahhhh!!
✌️😎✌️
possibly the smoothest surfing I've ever seen
Mikey Feb
I surfed a 5’3 fish on 3 to 5 surf and I don’t understand how he can ride a 5’4 on those waves. Amazing!
This is my all time favorite surf clip
Great photography and really smooth twin fin surfing!
And that ladies and gentlemen is how its done
Never seen a smoother backhand in my life
How? Not just the surfing but the camera. Really mindblowing.
Such a smooth classic style!!!
such a pleasure watching this man surf
Just absolutely brilliant!
2:27 !!!!!
This makes me wanna have a twin fin! This is so sick
I recently changed over my board to a twin and I'm loving it. The board is so much more alive. I use a little nubster in the center box for big waves.

I don't understand how he distributes his weight when he's tube riding. He seems very biased towards the front of the board. Incredible surfing.
