This ending was pretty much explaining how their long attached friendship had to come to an end. Not in a sense where they wont be friends but in a sense where they need to move on from being together all the time. And what best way to do that than with a girl for each of them. Not goodbye. More like "ill see you later and tell me how it went"
The awkwardness is real. Except, I don't think Michael Cera is acting. That dude could make everyday activities like buying food at the grocery store awkward.
One thing I love about this movie is how neither Seth nor Evan lose their virginities, because that isn't what the story is _really_ about. It would've been easy to have them get laid and make that the coming of age moment, but instead they chose to tell a story about growing up and drifting apart from your childhood friends. As someone who's had a few really close friendships come to an end over the years, this ending hit me in all the right ways.
@@alexk1682 Michael Cera was 19, Emma Stone was 19, Christopher Mintz-Plasse was 18, and the girl who played Gaby was 19. I think it’s perfect even though the rest of the teenagers were actually 23-24
I have always liked the look Emma Stone gives Jonah Hill after he admits he acted like an asshole. It conveys that he still has a chance with her but he is going to have to work for it. Her kind of guilting him into buying her cover up nails it home.
Jules was the mvp here. You can tell that Becka and Evan are really into each other, and Seth doesn't quite get it. So she's like, "Hey, come hang with me... let them go shop together." It was that little bit where she widens her eyes at Seth like, dude take the hint. And props to Seth for going along with it.
There's also points earlier in the movie where Evan doesn't pick up on signals that she is giving him. They both like each other but neither is confident enough to do anything about it
I love how realistically awkward and light hearted this scene is, puts me right back feeling like I’m 17 talking to girls, and the look Emma Stone gives at 1:55 is fantastic acting lol
Bittersweet ending because it captured the moment 2 best friends part ways. Something almost all of us can relate too. Superbad is a timeless classic and is probably one of the best teen movies
I like it, definitely, but it's nothing compared to John Hughes films. Breakfast club is ridiculous. The 80s nailed it. I like Superbad better than American Pie though; I thought the acting was better and more authentic.
This ending is so good because they lost what they had in the beginning(their friendship) but got what they wanted in the beginning (to get with the girls they liked)
@Akshay Natu idk about that. I’m close friends with people from my hometown who go to a different college than me. However, with phones and social media it’s way easier now tbf
Sometimes no matter how hard you try to avoid it, friends just drift apart eventually, but it’s ok cuz at the end of the day we always remember those special moments.
this final scene is perfect. captures everything. watched it 1st time just before i went to college. and it really hit hard. gave u a sudden realization of what we gonna left behind and the not so distant future that'll lies ahead. Going to be 33 this year, and just watched it again, thank you for the memories, Superbad. Timeless classic.
Man this ending is so bittersweet and lowkey sad now that I’ve been out of high school for a long time. This is so real and probably very relatable for most of us.
Martha did voice acting in a couple cartoons called "DiGata Defenders" and "Magi-Nation" and she was also in "Dead Before Dawn" alongside Devon "Rodrick" Bostick and Brandon Jay "Jack" McLaren. She's a mother now btw I keep suggesting her as a possible voice for Blaze the Cat in a future Sonic movie, mostly as a joke bc I also want Michael Cera as Silver.
It makes it even more geniune that it was written by Seth rogen when he was a teenager so it had a teenagers real experience and Judd apatow came in making it more appealing to a wider audience of all ages
"Haha, can you believe Jonah Hill has two Oscar nominations now?" *actually rewatching this scene*: "Yep." All four of them are awesome here. Honestly one of the best things about the film in retrospect - the ultimate teenage fantasy of getting to run into each other the day after some huge embarassment and actually say all the things you want to say.
Damn movieclips cut before the end of the scene where they walk away with the girls and look back at each other, kind of knowing that this is the end of an era.

Yup, the love song at the end wasn't for the pairing of the boys with the girls, it was for the 'breakup' between Seth and Evan.
