Big respect for Dawson to do what he took to make this fight. Despite him saying the weight wasn't an issue, he may have been in great shape but your ability to take a punch changes when you change your body. Yeah he gave up in the 10th, but it was a smart move, he knew he was getting dominated and hurt. We've all seen boxers completely change after one fight and that could've happened to Dawson if he kept going. Be smart so you can fight another day

Ward is going to be a great great fighter. Exciting or not he'll go down in history. He's kind of like Bernard Hopkins. He's not too exciting, but the way he figures you out and takes away your best weapons then proceeds to dominate opponents is just amazing.

Ward fought an incredible fight.
I fully agree and I come back to this fight very often bc I watched it live and it was such a huge deal and accomplishment for Dre. There’s definitely weight classes for a reason but weight had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of this fight. I’ve been watching Floyd fight live since 1998 and I can’t count how many times his opponents were able to pick the weight they were most comfortable with. Floyd wasn’t the Floyd he is today so he had to deal with it. When his time came it was only fair that he did it too. If Floyd could be very very successful under those circumstances then fighters should never be allowed to use that excuse especially when they chose to sign the contract.

I am not saying Dre could not beat Chad, but the weight was definitely an issue for sure. Chad was weight drained, but lack of competition at light heavy and no big pay check forced his hands to fight super-middle. And I am an Andre Ward fan too!
