ADV really stands for adventure touring. Those bikes are designed for distance on paved roads dirt roads and gravel.
I would not expect someone who spends 95% of their time riding within 40 miles of their house to get it.

Hey CycleCruza, been watching you for years. Your bird attack video is a classic. You're wrong about ADV bikes though. We all know you love torque, your Xdiavel had 93 lb-feet of torque, a BMW R1250GS has 105 lb-ft. Think way more comfortable, better handling and massive low down torque for days. Who said you can't wheelie ADVs? A 1290 Super Adventure will wheelie in 3rd gear. An ADV bike is too heavy to pick up off road? Check out Jocelin Snow, a little lady of 5ft1 that has no problem with the biggest GS Adventure because it all comes down to proper technique. Sure they aren't bikes for riding through leafy neighborhood woods, too heavy and expensive for that kind of silliness, but check out the currently ongoing BMW GS trophy videos to see what people can do with these bikes. I'd say get an ADV, because only those who actually tried them are qualified to talk smack. Are there no BMW dealers in Ohio? They're the most likely of all dealerships to allow test rides for a serious buyer, you'd easily get a ride on one. Peace man and keep mixing it up, don't be closed-minded.

@Topshelf you totally missed the point. Yes. A cruiser can run on the highway from coast to coast comfortably. It's not news to anyone. An ADV however, can go coast to coast comfortably OR hit the back unpaved roads and take the literal roads less traveled. That's what makes ADV's stand out from Cruisers. They are go anywhere, do anything motorcycles. They aren't gated behind freeways like Cruisers or uncomfortable like most street bikes. They're the best of both worlds.

ADV bike: Does a boat load of things pretty well, and several things very well. Dirt, Jeep trails, gravel, jumps, super long distance, multi-surface roads, ground clearance, luggage and passenger accommodations, lots of leg room, stand up while riding, lots of aftermarket support and accessories, can be super powerful and fast, good agility considering the size, quite reliable in most brands, durable in most brands, great tank range, tons of tire options from knobby to sports tires, and finally pretty cost-conscious for the amount of technology and capability you get.
Cruiser: Does one thing well. Stinks at literally everything else, without heavy modifications.

Cycle Cruza, sounds like a very similar tune you used to say about supermotos vs dual sports. I say put up or shut up! I somewhat agree about the huge 500 lbs 1200cc adv bikes. But a middle weight adv bike, like a KLR650, T700, KTM 890 with 90/10 knobby tires can do it alot including gnarly single track. I know, I've done it and I have both dual sport and adv bikes.
Show us some gnarly single track stuff on your supermotto. A skilled guy with thr adv bike described above can handle more then a supermotto slicked out tires or average dual sport skill level rider.
Buy a T700 or KTM 890 for your channel and make us all shut up and eat humble pie. 😋😉 But I bet you will sing a different tune if you man up and put your money where your mouth is😎

I 100% agree with this. Those LARGER ADV's are designed way more for the road than off road. IMHO, 650 or 700cc's is the biggest a person should deal with. Even then, one should be careful of how much luggage/gear they put on said ADV. Top heavy WILL dump you sooner or later. Especially for the average rider.

  • @JMeyer-qj1pv
    @JMeyer-qj1pv 2 года назад +2

I think you're too hung up on the word "adventure", which you always mistranslate to mean off road. But a more accurate definition is jack of all trades and feature rich. There are plenty of street oriented ADV bikes. And for tall guys like me, they have high ground clearance for spacious cockpits and good wind protection. To compare ADV bikes to cruisers is a false comparison. Cruisers are low slung, slow bikes. Most big ADV bikes have massive torque and are closer to comfortable sport bikes than to cruisers.

I’m in the market for an adv bike because they are a jack of all trades bike. I won’t be taking it on any single track but would be taking it on dirt logging roads. Adv bikes are easy to wheelies also because of the extra weight help it balance better and the torque and engine braking help keep it on the balance point. There’s no way that adv bikes are boring. Some of the best riders can do amazing things on them and its really up to the riders ability the number of things you can do with them. They are very popular because we all can’t have multiple bikes and adv bikes can do everything, even go off road. I wouldn’t be doing any hardcore off road stuff unless I was with other riders since it will be going down and can have help picking it up.

I recommend to go to BMW Rider Academy, go to the ADV shows and take advantage of the training there, and buy Chris Birch’s ‘Day No To Slow’ and drill the techniques until they’re habit. You will be able to tackle a lot in a short period of time if you put in the hours of drills and practice on the trails. Oh, and don’t get scared off if you break something in year 1. 😉

I live in a row home with no garage, so my bikes are parked on the 8 by 10 foot patch of dirt that is considered the front yard. Their aesthetics however are anything from classic. Cruisers are to motorcycling as are leathers. They too commonly have comfortable ergonomics, but often lack suspension-wise. But if your purpose is to pop wheelies all day on public roads and do all kinds of illegal hooligan stuff then they probably are not the best thing.
If you like waving at everybody on the road; mopeds, scooters, bicycles, skateboards, slingshots, lawn mowers, and that gives you pleasure, then enjoy.
I always return a wave on my Harley. But sometimes it gets annoying. Especially those 3 wheeled cars that always turn up at motorcycle events.

It literally took him 5 hrs to dig out ,and lift that 800+ lb. clunker . I was thinking . WHAT WAS HE THINKING !!!!!! As a life long rider who has owned about 30 bikes so far , I have never liked Harleys. Or Cruisers. I only owned 1 cruiser and that was because of a female(nightmare) . It was a Kawasaki Vulcan 750. It was actually a decent bike and still could bust a wheelie here & there . As a geezer now ,I see an adventure bike in my future. I will need range & flexibility but also somewhat lightweight . Cruiser is out for me as I gotta be able to explore while cruising. So if there is any chance of being able to ride a decent interval between fill-ups and carry some surplus + be able to go off the grid . I'm thinking Kawi KLH 650.Tall ? ,yes heavy ? , not as bad as a Hog. perfect example . Disclaimer : I am a fan of MDB & don't hate Harleys as much as I used to (as long as they are completely upgraded) this is good stuff though . Last weekend I dropped it in a ditch in a creek and I’m getting it out I dropped it again 4-5 times. Rode putts there. Get some training and most of what you encounter is pretty easily overcome.
Regarding lightweight, that’s great if you can, or are inclined, to trailer your bike to where you want to ride it. Personally, I like to ride a few hours into the mountains and just explore on the bike. I’m on it for 12 hours so I need to be comfy to do the distance and duration. It dual sport ain’t gonna so it. Where Id seriously consider leaving the GS at home is maybe doing a difficult BDR, such as the COBDR. I would consider trailering it out since I’m in TN, and then having a nice light bike for the trip and an easier time getting there.

Nice! Really it comes down to preference and what works for you. ADV bikes can be picked up ok but if you mess around in some gnarly off-road stuff you'll get worn out fast. For touring, ADV bikes are the best for sure, bigger fuel tank and all the amenities and comfort you could want. There are some guys that did the bear pass in Colorado, they made Honda CRF450L ADV bikes and said they would not even attempt to use a full on ADV bike in those conditions. It just depends on the application. Don't get me wrong, I think ADV bikes look badass. If I ever do coast to coast on street I'll definitely get a ADV bike.

Also, you can still rip it in the twisties. I still have a sports bike, track bike, and a dual sport, but the GS gets the lion’s share of the time because there is almost no road you can’t explore when you’re on it.
I’ve only been ADV riding for less than a year and am already doing an easy BDR (MABDR). Anyone can do it. Just remember, everything you do off-road is the opposite of on-road, so it takes some getting used to!

As far as drops go, I got the Road King after looking at an Africa Twin because if I drop the RK, I'm only halfway down or less with the crash bar. On ALL adventure bikes, a drop even with a crash bar means it's 100% down on its side. That means picking up the full 500+ pounds. I had a buddy drop his AT & he still wasn't able to pick it up. He joked that I wouldn't be able to pick up my RK either, so we set it down on a rug inside my garage. I picked it up just fine & we set it down a 2nd time so he could try it- he picked it up just fine too. A lot of times it's not about weight, but leverage & angles.

I was hoping it would come in before I head down south to close on my house but I doubt it. Sucks. Its hard getting bikes now, this bike I ordered, there is not ONE of these bikes at any dealership in the country right now!

Offroad, you want the lightest weight possible. After trying several heavy ADV bikes, I settled on modifying a WR250R for Adventure: ruclips.net/video/rYrP5fpPIuM/видео.html
