I’m 50 year old now and I can still remember and appreciate the work of Marty Stouffer. The current generation could benefit from the education his videos provided about Wild America and nature in general. He was good at communicating his message across generations. He captivated his audience bringing them into the world of the unknown and helping them to understand the life of wild animals.
I was a 2000s kid so I never saw it until this year when I watched a lot of wild america in my wildlife biology class. Chris and Martin Kratt were my Marty Stouffer
Awesome video and timely too. Having watched EVERY episode from 1982 through 1994, I had asked a family member “wonder what ever happened to that wild America show?” favorite episode: Marty brings two orphaned fishers home to his spouse. Best episode ever.
I am an 81 year old man, and i watched his work and liked every bit of it. I wish him well in his future endeavors. I do not understand the folks who have money and can help him get this done. i wish i could but with only 570 $ a month and lots of health problems i could not be one of those to help any one. That money I get from social security is only enough to cover my monthly health insurance. Guess where the money comes to eat on, and pay other bills. I will leave that a mystery, but i have a few good friends. with good hearts. I am not a beggar. I am no longer able to work. Thank GOD for good friends. Now I repeat that you are successful as you once were. I would love to see your films again. I would like to die in my easy chair watching some of your new productions. Wow what a way to go. Thanks for all the fun I was able to have before. May God bless you, and thanks again. God bless.
His show was incredible, for many GenX'ers he was our introduction to the great outdoors and discovering the wildlife in this great country. His style and production was soothing, I need to watch some episodes tonight.
….watched it every Sunday after Lost in Space 1982 on ….:) find memories and great “Marty presentation” Wildlife in detail 🌞🪸🪴🎍 I wish someone would fund his effort to remaster in 4k:)
Thank you so much for sharing your life story. We're happy to know that you're a fan of Wild America. If we may ask, which episode is the most memorable for you?
I love this man. I have a very strong emotional connection with him and his work, remembering many hours sitting with my dad watching these amazing nature documentaries.
Loved his passion for wildlife he like them modern-day Dave Crockett grew up watching the documentary series my first introduction to wildlife was because of this man and his documentaries 🐻🦉🌳🐺🐿️ series since then I have been a nature and animal lover even as an adult I go back and watch his old nature documentary series and share them with my family much blessings and best wishes on his new projects in career
The narrator should have watched the beginning of a typical 'Wild America ' episode, where Marty looked right at the camera and said, with an enthusiastic twinkle in his eye, "I'm Marty Stouffer..." STOUFFER...the "OU" is like "fowl". (C'mon, man: get it right!)
Absolutely loved and still do these programs, Marty Stouffer is a frontiersman in nature documentaries you could tell from his passion he loved all nature & animals! I rewatch the shows and never get tired of them! So informative! ❤️
What was the big controversy that finally finished Marty on PBS? If I remember, PBS claimed that some of the real close-ups he got were actually shot from the same animals in cages in the zoo. I wouldn't have minded. You gotta do what you gotta do. I miss him too.
My wife and I really enjoyed watching “Wild America” while snowmobiling in Yellowstone Park we met Marty at dinner in the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. He and his team were filming the otters in the winter on Yellowstone Lake, my wife and I sat next to his film crew as the coyotes and otters were play catch me if you can in the lakes warm vents for almost the whole day during often snow blind outs. I remember our conversations with the park rangers and Marty’s permits (not going into details). Some after that we stopped watching his films. It is funny how your perspectives change after meeting and watching people work. I still have a great love of “Wild America” before our snowmobile trip.
@@FactsVerse I have two complete sets in DVD . Wild America Specials and Wild America Complete TV Series. I probably saw them all individually when they were on TV but I still had to purchase the two sets for posterity. A million thanks to Marty and his crew for all they have done in the efforts to bring the creatures into the lives of so many people. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Rory-Not Gail: There is nothing I can add, I think, that hasn't been stated by the comments below. "Wild America" and all of Marty Stouffer's contributions and talent were simply remarkable. "Wild America" was a very calming and fulfilling show to watch. The theme song stirs my nostalgia and my passion for The Great Outdoors. I plan on revisiting this wonderful show via RUclips. Thanks Marty!
I would watch him every Sunday. The beavers are the ones I liked. After that I would watch Bob Ross painting show. Then I would watch the cooking show with the chef from New Orleans. Then one who would tell us stories of his family and friends. That one I don’t remember the name.
Same ! I thought Marty was dead . Good to know he's alive and well and living with his family in the Centennial State . Cool . I live in New Mexico, so he's not far .
His birthday is easy to remember because he has the same birthday as my father's brother!! I watched this in the early 90s and I remember one particular episode of him standing up to a moose going.."Whoah..whoah!" As he raised his arms to appear taller!
I loved his shows as a kid! Dinner time came if it didn't hear " I'm Marty Stouffer and this is Wild America " at dinner time I felt incomplete. My favorite episodes where the wolf's, the one on bobcats and the snow shoe rabbit. The links where cool too!

WE WATCHED WILD AMERICAWHEN MY DAUGHTERS WERE LITTLE... MY DAD WORKED WITH MARTYS DAD. AND WE WERE OVER TO MARTYS MOM AND DADS HOUSE. WE BOUGHT OUR STANDARD POODLE FROM HIS MOM... WE LOVE AND MISS WILD AMERICA
It's really sad that national geographic stole so much of Marty's ideas and never never gave him the respect that he deserved I guess that's what evil entertainment business people do when they see something that can possibly make them more money is to take the hard work of someone else and run with it smh without giving that person to respect and recognition
Obviously, I've not followed things closely so I was saddened to learn of the conflict between this icon of nature documentaries and National Geographic. My sympathies automatically rest with Marty. I'm just over 40 years old now and, growing up in the 90s, retain vivid memories of Wild America for which I have him to thank....and now I'm soured on National Geographic whose many works I have also enjoyed over the years. But they've never held the meaning or memories, for me, that Marty does. All the best to him and everything he does from here. And for NG: you've got your heads up your collective ass and don't even know how much you stink. :\
I think you may be right about him staging animal videos. It's hard to believe he would be at the right place at the right time so often with all of the amazing footage that he was able to capture. He must have tons of good luck, if that's the case.
That def happened. He used bears and other animals used in movies. Also baited and fed them as well. If you feed deer long enough and slowly get them used to you? They will let their guards down.
Yes, I remember the scandal and the subsequent cancellation of his series. But I'm wondering if his intent was to mislead the viewer or merely to give the viewer more information. Perhaps a statement in the ending credits stating that some scenes were filmed in a controlled setting would have been prudent. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think Marty intended to be deceitful.
I loved that show I always wondered what happened to the show. Colorado is a beautiful place especially in the winter. I believe marty i liked the bears
I watched Wild American as a little girl back in the 80s and into the early 90s. It was this nature program that taught me about the facts of life, Marty filmed & covered everything haha. I like all of the animals, but my favorite would have to be elk.
This became one of my favorite shows after high school. I wish I had seen it sooner my uncles never told me about it. I don’t know why they don’t tell me anything lol people are pretty good about that. This show really captured a lot. It’s how I would like to make a wildlife show, but I also like animal planets, most extreme back in the early 2000s I watch that as a kid before I was learning any kind of numeracy but this relaxing ethereal positive way to educate people on wildlife is such an euphoric way to present and the best way at it when I was going to school for Park management and wildlife ecology, I would turn on the show after class when I go back to finish college. Maybe I hope I can spend time putting my career learning about wildlife with a woman of the same mutual likes under God‘s grace serving God‘s land men can dream but you can’t forget you can make it your reality uplifting show never gets old the best way I always put. It is like if Bob Ross painted one of his paintings and then Marty stepped into it to educate wildlife after Bob got done educating painting it’s like heading from art class to ecology class. It’s awesome.
If you haven't already. Do something about family and fun shows from the 80s and 90s. And what you would rank them in popularity and the characters than in now As well as any other meaningful detail for someone who grew up in the 80's and 90' Such family shows as "Full House" and "Family Matters." Those are just a couple myself in my siblings watched very often. I'm sure somewhere on RUclips. You can find a lot of content like this, but you can bring your own unique perspective and angle to it. I was born in 1984, so I grew up as a child watching Wild America and learning about nature through that television series.. And the intro music to that show really does bring me back to my childhood, laying on the floor in front of the television screen with my grandmother telling me not to set so close because I would ruin my eyes. Lol Thanks for the content.
As a child, I always loved watching the series. It’s probably why I still love to watch documentary films now. However, I don’t like to watch nature films anymore.
I wish he could get the funding for the 4K and I wished he could have the funding to bring up stuff that we haven’t seen. I’ve watched him since I was a little kid. I have all his movies on DVD and I was always at natured lover because of him and I really enjoyed the show.
Actor Jonathan Taylor Thomas never played the character of a young Marty Stouffer in film. If you can't fact check something as simple as that why should we believe anything in this documentary?
If ya’ll miss Marty like I do, there’s a guy on RUclips that reminds me of him named Mark Smith. He’s a photographer who narrates his photos and videos with the same kind of calm voice and similar type of story telling. I don’t know him and get nothing out of this. Just thought some of you would enjoy his work.
I loved this show. I remember being disappointed when the episode would be about a shrew or something instead of a bear or wolf or something like that.
There isn't a specific episode that really stands out, but i often remember him pitching a pup tent in the snow and staying over night. 🥶 I don't care if he had a super-duper LL Bean sleeping bag, your face is still cold and you breathe in cold air. I also thought about his wife. Didn't she worry about him?
Of course the courts sided with the billion dollar company. What a shame. I always assumed he started working for National Geographic as a consultant or something.
I love the show, but TIMES HAVE CHANGED. If Marty wants to put clips or episodes on youtube, then JUST DO IT, instead of whining that nobody is paying him.
It looks to me like he's a has-been. It appears that his big ego might have caught up with him. There are lots of comments about how it is wished he could get the money to do whatever, but guess what? He lost $372,000 in a legal action from when he presumed he could cut a 6 miles road thru land that wasn't his. That's a lot of money he could have used to do whatever it is he thinks he can do. I reckon he's done. And that's why you don't see him much these days.

I wouldn't want to go as close to wild animals as he did , but I always loved looking at the scenery .
I loved this show. I remember being disappointed when the episode would be about a shrew or something instead of a bear or wolf or something like that.
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Point interval indeed.
Oh yes, me and my father loved that show..
Johnathan Taylor Thomas plays Marty's little brother Marshall in Wild America, not Marty
Jonathan Taylor Thomas played Marshall, his little brother, not Marty.
Thanks for the info! We'll check the video. What other types of video would you like to see?
Of course the courts sided with the billion dollar company. What a shame. I always assumed he started working for National Geographic as a consultant or something.
I loved wild America and Marty ..
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
My dad always watched this.
👍
Jonathan Taylor Thomas did NOT play young Marty, he played his youngest brother Marshall. Do simple research. Now I question what else you got wrong.
I love the show, but TIMES HAVE CHANGED. If Marty wants to put clips or episodes on youtube, then JUST DO IT, instead of whining that nobody is paying him.
JTT played Marshall, not Marty.
I believe national geographic did copy off his idea or mimic it. The names are similiar
JTT does not play Marty. He plays Marshall.
Always liked that show when i was a kid. Now all people want to watch is the Kardashians and the likes.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas wasn't Marty
It looks to me like he's a has-been. It appears that his big ego might have caught up with him. There are lots of comments about how it is wished he could get the money to do whatever, but guess what? He lost $372,000 in a legal action from when he presumed he could cut a 6 miles road thru land that wasn't his. That's a lot of money he could have used to do whatever it is he thinks he can do. I reckon he's done. And that's why you don't see him much these days.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
