Ah what an episode. The Narn collaborator told Londo he could come to Narn, while complaining to G´Kar about the resistance shooting down Centauri ships...he tried to lure Londo to Narn so they could get a shot on him. But he is wrong about G´Kar. We know he wanted to go home while the asteroids dropped, he wanted to walk straight into the mushroom clouds. Also nice to see the Narn from the alien abudction plot again, he´s a nice return and I´d like to see more of him. And finally "Did you hear that?" "No commander" Smart man :)
I have to comment here because you raise an excellent point. Yes, we know G'kar's wishes he could have returned when the bombing was happening - he would have died with his people if he had not been ordered to stay. However, Na'far knows nothing of this. His viewpoint is that he is a man who suffered through the mass driver genocide and is now sacrificing pride to save the remaining smears of his former civilization. Just as any soldier might do, a man who was not on the front lines dying shoulder to shoulder is often resented because he knows nothing of the carnage and sacrifice of battle. If we had Na'far's point of view during the tragedy and knew nothing of G'kar, we might feel similarly to Na'far. That's the tragic truth of humanity - we resent and condemn those we consider to have not suffered our same pain simply because it is so personal to us. We believe in the suffering we endured and to be told that your people will continue to die because an elite remaining on Babylon 5 cares not to give himself up, that would be extremely maddening. Perspective is EVERYTHING.
Vir was written out in a way where he could come back later because his actor was scheduled to appear in a sitcom on Fox. Whether or not he came back would depend on how well he could work both that and his B5 schedule around each other, or if the sitcom didn't do well.
If you ever watch the show again you will find details hidden in plain sight. After this episode I can finally mention one. Dr. Franklin. During the rewatch you will notice how his job got more and more stressful. It's a slow increase you usually don't notice the first time watching it. You are too distracted with the rest of what is going on, but the second time it's usually like a slap in the face, because you know where it's going.
RIP Maintbot 17, no-one had it on their dead pool The Narn blade was inspired by an urban myth about the traditional blade used by the Nepalese Gurka soldiers (khukuri). The myth goes that the blade must draw blood whenever it is drawn (which is rubbish as you'd have to cut yourself every time you cleaned it!)
The shows back then had to have something for new viewers each week. This week it's the Probe. The real story is G'Kar and the puppet government, Gariboldi being an alcoholic..... There was a lot setting up of future episodes.
Vir is awesome. Period. In fact... there were very few series I watched in my life where I couldn't say who's my favourite charakter because there are sooo many interesting and awesome charakters.
@@RKnights No, for real... I could say G'kar.. but what about Mollari? I could say Delenn.. but damn.. Marcus Cole. I could say Garribaldi.. but Vir. Dammit... Ivanova ... Bester.. Lyta... what a show...
Great episode, and one that you can have really great philosophical discussions on after you see the whole series so certain topics wouldn't spoil anything.
That's Counselor Na'far. And the warrior is Marshall Teague, who can be seen as Patrick Swayze's nemesis in the original Roadhouse. Ironically, the back-and-forth between Garibaldi and the Doc is exactly what they joked about on the DVD commentaries (soap opera relationship woes).
@@tvdroid22 Andreas’s biggest break out performance, before the Fugitive, was as a very nasty bad guy In Someone to Watch Over Me, starring Tom Berenger. He also had a moderate side part in Executive Decision, starring Kurt Russell.
This Narn that is called Nafar is what is known as a colaborator.. You have this type in every occupation era on earth. Be it ww2 or the colonial times..

Londo seems to be channeling Ebineezer Scrooge. And the workhouses? Still in full vigor? And the prisons? I’m intrigued by the character of N’Far. We don’t really know his true intentions. Is he a sleazy opportunist or is he truly doing what he thinks is best under the current circumstances? The audience reflexively sides with G’Kar but Londo clearly sees something dangerous in him to be crushed. I like that it’s not spelled out for us.
I'm a fan of N'Far. Restraining himself while Londo tests his resolve in such a horrific way is a quiet yet powerful hero moment for him. I choose to believe he really is doing what he thinks is best for his people, it just happens to run in direct opposition to what G'Kar thinks is best for their people.
It's especially interesting as JMS' POS father was almost certainly a collaborator whilst Poland was occupied during WW2 (there's a pretty strong suggestion that he, at the very least, witnessed war crimes committed during that time)
"I'm trying to figure out which war this is reminiscent of" - Julian. This is basically mirroring what happened in WWII when Germany occupied France. The local government was composed of French collaborators, some were genuinely pro-Germany, some were like Na'Far, hoping that with their actions they can save the French people before a counteroffensive and liberation of France (if there ever was going to be one). Both types were obviously despised. Na'Far makes a genuinely good point but he's also wrong. Sure, giving into Centauri demands might save a few more Narns, but it will definitely not help liberate their world any time soon. Good episode, the A-plot being what is happening with G'Kar is just amazing stuff. As others have said, it's hard to say who the most and least favorite characters are on B5. People like dunking on Franklin, but he's probably one of the few characters I can genuinely connect with. He's not perfect. He has problems. He has a little bit of an ego. But that's what makes him easier to connect with than someone like Sheridan or even Londo and G'Kar. Vir is an absolute treasure, and seeing him get sent to Minbar here is sad even though technically it's a good thing for him. Hopefully you guys enjoy episodes 8-9-10 today when you react to them, they're genuinely probably some of the best pieces of television competing with something like Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones best episodes.
Na'Far is waiting for the right time to strike back but doesn't realise that if the Centauri are allowed to beat them down it will never be the right time.
@@Karajorma The Narn are in a no-win scenario. G'Kar's methods don't offer any better results. He cannot hope to actually hurt the Centauri occupation and he is fighting a war that results in his side losing 500 people for every one of theirs. G'Kar is satisfying Narn pride and need for revenge, but he is also directly encouraging the Centauri to continue to beat them down until the Narn are too few to ever fight back.
@@dargron7614 You could make the argument that the Centauri were going to do that either way. I wouln't trust the same people who cheer about exterminating the Xon to leave the Narn at any reasonable population.
"All I got ..is what I got ..." Sheridan doesn't get enough credit for being the total badass he really is ..
The Narn Ta'lon with the sword is Marshall Teague he was in the movie Road house
The woman Franklin danced with was the actor's real life partner and eventual wife which is super cute!

I love the two worker class Minbari behind the big mouth. Their whole silent reaction was like- And that's why you don't mess with the warrior caste.
Looking forward to the triple header today. Hope things have calmed down for y'all.

It just keeps getting better and better, the acting is top notch, and the scripts are great.
I have to disagree on Londo. Yes, he serves his own ends but you can tell he is a patriot to his people.

Its possible it is also a kind of discipline. You dont unsheath it unless you really need it or you need to defend or kill someone

In one degree of separation, Andreas Katsulas (G’Kar) was the mob boss villain in Patrick Swayze’s Next of Kin.
Teague was also the heavy that became the Ikarran war machine back in season 1 "Infection"

If memory serves, and I am lucky to remember why I walked into the room, but the actor playing Vir got another role, so JMS reduced his workload.

barbaric is the only word that can be used to describe the occupation of Narn. ☠️
Only Humans and Minbari can be Rangers.
It's nothing like that! Why can't Drazi and Drakhs and Pak'mara be taken as rangers?
