Welcome to Season 3! If you thought things were exciting in Season 2, Season 3 is where things _really_ start to get crazy. Some of my absolutely favorite episodes drop in this season.
I just love how the Shadow vessel sorta turns to the jumpgate like "the hell?" and then immediately turns to run like "shit shit shit shit shit" Also hey, say hello to the prettiest ship in all of science fiction…and also the prettiest _man_ in all of science fiction. XD
Jerry Doyle often talked fondly about Mira Furlan as the go to actor for long exposition scenes: "Thousands of years." where the rest of the cast would kind of kick back and think: "And she's off again." This was such a solid cast; and still some like Andreas Katsulas and Mira Furlan just inspired everyone so much. The commitment to excellence from top to bottom was amazing; from the producers to the design crew. And during the first run of the series, the interaction on line with the fans was way beyond what other shows were doing at that time. Unbelievable.
Babylon 5 20th anniversary reunion. Everyone is standing and giving their closing comments. Mira starts talking, everyone sits down. Jerry comments: "This is a normal Babylon 5 thing - when someone starts telling a story, we sit!" The recording of that con made me laugh so much (and cry at times). You're absolutely right, what an amazing cast.
The cast is one of the reasons I am apprehensive about a possible reboot of B5 so much of its magic comes from the actors that the idea of trying to recapture it, feels like trying catch lightning in a bottle ...
@@janpersson9818 True that. He was great in the role, and (from what I've heard) also a really fun person. I heard an interview with him on an old B5 podcast (from 2009 I think) recently, very enjoyable. Delenn never lies. "I'm sorry I can't help you. I've never seen a ship like that before." Of course, a minbari never tells the complete truth either...
@@putinscat1208 I remember. I wasn't contradicting that. I'm just saying that, even if you don't lie there are ways to not tell the entire truth without lying. In this case, Delenn was telling the truth while holding something back, too.
The divide between truth and lie here is even thinner than you think, because later we learn that she had in fact seen recordings of shadow ships from the last war. So while it's true that she saw an actual ship with her own eyes, she did already see a recordiing of one... I mean I understand her motives, but considering how Draal taught her "A half-truth is the worst kind of lie", this deception couldn't have come easy for her.

@@zvimur Great episode! I just love Mcqueen's arc and the inclusion of Beethoven's Symphony 3 - Funeral March and references to the Iliad just give Angriest Angel an amazing depth for me
Also because the politics isn't preachy - a lot of shows tend to show ideology in very simplified terms. In B5, you tend to see why people might buy in to the other side of the argument which makes it a lot more compelling
I knew it'd happen, marcus arrives and right away the emotional rollercoaster is boarded. Always liked the way the bonehead maneuver tied up a previous story while also helping build johns character.
I love this season! Marcus is a great character and more proof that JMS doesn't need the suits to force him to make characters as both Zack and Marcus are WAY better than Keffer. I can't wait for you to finish out this season as becomes less a TV show and more of an exercise in getting your mind blown.
7:50 this is the moment i fell in love. There have been many beautiful starships throughout scifi, but nothing compares to the beauty of the White Star. You can fly your own White Star. There's a video game from 2001, "Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos", there's a Babylon 5 addon that turns your ship into the White Star... sound effects and all. I love flying her.
Medusa, you are doing a fantastic job! "See it again for the first time" isn't just a catchphrase with you watching. I get to remember my own surprise, shock, and amazement from (mumble, mumble) years ago!
I do believe your voice squeaked a bit when you met Marcus!! 🤣 I'm looking forward to your reactions to (for my money's worth) one of the best seasons of B5! - said in previous reactions: 'this is where things get serious', well this season takes that & ramps it up.... ramps EVERYTHING up! Can't wait to see more, you're going to love it even more!! 😁
@Carolina Fantaccini A quote from JMS during Season 3. _About female fans' reaction to Marcus_ "It's okay...so are most of the women who work in the editing bays at B5. The first few days of this season, as his stuff started coming in, one of them pulled me aside, and with hand firmly on my arm, to let me know she meant business, said, "Listen very carefully: I want to see a LOT more of Marcus.""
Aww, you didn't play my favorite part of this episode. :) (Endawi) 'This is quite irregular, Mr. Garibaldi.' I was assured that Captain Sheridan or Commander Ivanova would be available. (Garibaldi) They got called away on urgent business. (Endawi) What kind of business? (Garibaldi) I'm not authorized for that kind of information. (Endawi) But you're the head of security. (Garibaldi) And what kind of head of security would I be if I let people like me know things that I'm not supposed to know? I mean, I know what I know because I have to know it and if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me and I don't let anyone else tell me either. (Garibaldi) Now look, we've tried most of the other ambassadors. Why don't you speak to G'Kar? Maybe he knows something about the ship. (Endawi) Under the terms of our recent treaty I am not authorized to have any official conversation with the Narn without Centauri approval. (Garibaldi) So you'll ask unofficially. And I can give you reasonable assurances that the head of security will not report you for doing so. (Endawi) Because you won't tell yourself about it? (Garibaldi) I try never to get involved in my own life. Too much trouble. (Endawi) This is a very strange place you have here, Mr. Garibaldi. (Garibaldi) Thank you.
Not my words mind you, but the words of the creator of the show himself. Because from some angles it looks fantastic, while from others it does indeed look like a plucked chicken. ^^
Your enthusiasm is just beautiful to watch. As much as you enjoyed season 2, be prepared to be blown away. This season contains the greatest Delenn scene ever shot, and you will know it when you see it.
You have no idea how crazy it gets, and that's good. I guess we may see more of Marcus, who knows. The White Star. A beauty, indeed - and they had a little surprise for the Shadow ship. Yes, I love Delenn, too, I had the opportunity to meet Mira Furlan a few times at conventions, and got a longer (good) reply than I had expected. Unfortunately she is no longer with us. Yes, Londo is in a pickle, isn't he? Oh, yes, Mr Endawi: Did you know that that conversation between Londo and Endawi by some fans are referred to as "the battle of accents? Probably not, but I find that quite amusing.
Two great things are introduced in this episode. Marcus and the 'White Star'. I liked Marcus from the moment he met Delenn and Lennier. My first reaction on seeing the White Star was 'I want one!' 😁
Season 3 has the best title music. It really fits the dark new tone of the show. And Ivanova saying: "The Babylon Project was our last best hope for peace. It failed." makes you shiver all the time. Now we are really in the show.
One little nod of continuity I like - the Bonehead maneuver's 'special effect' is exactly the same as what happens when the shadows pull the exact same trick in reverse to the narn at Gorash: which makes sense as it's an improvised version of the same thing.
If Medusa had a swear jar, how much higher would her rates for Patreon be?... ;-) This is meant affectionately, I love the sense of wonder and obvious enthusiasm she has, this seems like it was tailor made for her interests as she seems to love details in a show that delicately layers them. It's quite a season opener, I wish the video had included the reaction to the fact that the gate destroyed was the one for the Markab homeworld. In my mind's eye, I picture Medusa's face being a mix of sadness (because it's hard not to be when reminded of THAT episode...) and a bit of happiness as the dual intent of stopping two bad things at once. Alas for the restrictions of fair use, I get why it wasn't shown so I suppose it's an argument for joining the Patreon at some point as you can't show everything on RUclips...
I met Jason Carter (actor playing Marcus) ages ago at Dragon Con. Unfortunately, I was super nervous meeting celebrities but he was very nice about it.
I've always wondered what would happen if the Shadows (suddenly) encountered the Daleks, (though not just as to who would win in a battle but also how such an encounter would all play out)..? Also, imagine the 8th Doctor (who would've fitted better perhaps) or 7th Doctor & Ace running about on onboard Babylon-5 during an episode or two..? I would have loved such a crossover.
Based upon the likely tech level differential; I think the Daleks would lose in a serious way. With ol' Dave Ross helping them? - he might go all Medusa Cascade / Reality Bomb on them.
Just found your channel a couple days ago. You're reacting to two of my favorites in B5 and Farscape. Keep up the great commentary. Can't wait for you to react to the Hugo award winning B5 episode "Severed Dreams". Cheers
You raise an excellent question about Bester: why _isn't_ he part of the discussion at the end? It's possible that it was originally intended to be Bester, but Walter Koenig wasn't available at the time, so they just inserted Random Psi Cop #3. That said: few, if any, institutions are entirely monolithic, even the Psi Corps. We saw that Talia had a very different standard of moral fiber than Bester, for example. It's possible that Random Psi Cop #3 just happens to be the current Shadow ally within Psi Corps, the way Londo has been their ally within the Centauri government before they turned to Refa, and maybe Bester _is_ involved somehow. Or maybe not. You'll just have to wait and see if this particular question is ever addressed or answered.
"This ship is amazing!" Three ships from Babylon 5 have stuck in my mind as the most amazing ships in sci fi: the starfury, the omega destroyer, and the white star. I completely agree with your assessment on the white star.
I love the Garabaildi bit with the guy from Intelligence. But then again, I love ALL of the Garabaldi stuff! Also, I always felt that scene where Ivonava reveals she knows of the Rangers presence COULD have been expanded somewhat to be more of a "Jeff-Callback" moment. (In my 'head canon', the ONLY thing she DOESN'T "know" is WHO is in OVERALL command of the Rangers. And the ONLY reason she doesn't "know" is because she STOPPED looking into it! Why? Because, she realized, whoever that is would have a HUGE target on their back for the Shadows to send assassins. So, their BEST protection is Anonymity. I also figured, she had a solid "guess" who it is, which ALSO motivated her to put that possible identity "out of her mind". So, even a passing telepath would not pick up any name.) Again, this is just a made up "head canon" scene I created in my mind & is in NO way connected with anything official.
Great Reactions to a very good Episode. I haven't seen you smile so much as that time I forgot my PJs and you gave me your Babydoll to wear. If you don't remember that, it must have been another one of the dreams I have.
Ah, the White Star! I definitely Oooo'd and Ahhhh'd over it - until, it appeared at a particular angle and suddenly it was - "Ermyghad, a 'plucked chicken' "! 😯😑 Ever since then it's been a ping pong match between the two opinions! 😂😑 Until recently! I just did my first full rewatch since '98 when I suddenly had an Inspiration! Well, a chicken is a bird. Birds are descended dinosaurs. Almost all dinosaur had scales. So Now I think of the White Star as a Spaceborne Dinosaur! Now *that's* majestic, and fierce. 😁
most of the capital ships in the show can make their own jump points, so that's not what makes the whitestar special. but it is probably the most advanced ship built by the younger races
Hello! You just got a sub out of me, this episode just popped up on my feed. I am so pleased you are enjoying this show. B5 is one of my personal favorites. I eagerly await your reaction to S3 E10, "Severed Dreams"
Watched this on my tele so the gobsmack overload was bigger than usual which is entirely appropriate! The last Earth scene is a real kicker. And if you start going misty eyed for Marcus Mr Dimples will be sad! I mean seriously, this season is just something else...
I will not say where in this season it is, but my absolute favorite single snippet is in this season. I hope you will have included it in the reaction to the episode it occurs in.
All Minbari ships have an organic hull, while Vorlon ships are seemingly entirely organic. The White Star is more Minbari in it's construction with a built interior and organic hull coating.
@@BriDog420 I thought the interior of Minbari ships were crystalline/built while the exterior was organic. I almost positive that was stated somewhere in the series. IDK it's been to many years since I've watched the show. Need to do a full rewatch.
@@mkohlhorst In the season 1 episode with the Icaran war machine some characters speculated that the Minbari had organic ships. But by everything I know about the setting the White Star was their first time using organic components in a ship.
@@BriDog420 Might be true, hard to say for sure, though even their ships from the last Shadow War had the organic look to them. I do remember it being mentioned the Excalibur and Victory were supposed to get an organic hull but they were pressed into service before it happened. Of course that doesn't prove anything as both vessels were the next ship in Alliance fleet.
The season 3 intro gives nothing away after the first episode and it's a great intro theme. Season 4 is my favourite theme but I prefer the visuals of the S3 intro.
Of the new additions, I loved the White Star and that amazing green dress of Delenn's. Marcus...well as Meatloaf once said, 2 outa 3 ain't bad😂 (And yes, I know how unpopular a take that is.)

Thank you for the upload. Addicted to these B5 reactions
"This ship is amazing!"
Three ships from Babylon 5 have stuck in my mind as the most amazing ships in sci fi: the starfury, the omega destroyer, and the white star. I completely agree with your assessment on the white star.
“Hi!” Somebody was charmed by Marcus pretty quickly but then again, most everyone is!
One of the best lines is in this episode.
“With all due respect, ambassador, I’ve heard that before.”
Medusa:
-Hi!
Marcus:
-Hello!
I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Marcus is awesome as hell.
It’s not a spoiler because we never hear this in the series but the friend who gave Marcus the staff was indeed THE friend.
I *love* that she noticed that he said, "an old friend".
Ah, Marcus, the White Star, the first fight against a Shadow ship! This season is really starting in style. What a wonderful opener.
tucker smallwood,he rocked in space above and beyond,my fav next to b5
I have a cool pic of him too.. I really wish i could show u
So, even a passing telepath would not pick up any name.)
Again, this is just a made up "head canon" scene I created in my mind & is in NO way connected with anything official.
Delenn's speeches are everything!!!
I've been waiting for you to reach this episode with Marcus and yes, I caught that gleam in your eye.
Great Reactions to a very good Episode. I haven't seen you smile so much as that time I forgot my PJs and you gave me your Babydoll to wear. If you don't remember that, it must have been another one of the dreams I have.
Welcome to season 3. From here on it gets even more intense. I love the Whitestar, beautiful looking ship.
Yay. Someone with my name! The last time that happened was in an episode of 'Angel' and he was an evil villain.
I love your enthusiasm and look forward for your reactions :)
Ah, the White Star! I definitely Oooo'd and Ahhhh'd over it - until, it appeared at a particular angle and suddenly it was - "Ermyghad, a 'plucked chicken' "! 😯😑
Ever since then it's been a ping pong match between the two opinions!
😂😑
Until recently!
Each season of this show has its own vibe, and season 3 really ramps up the action. Marcus is also great.
2:13 is that a cat? :)
Marcus pops up on the screen... "Hi!", Good introduction id say.
most of the capital ships in the show can make their own jump points, so that's not what makes the whitestar special. but it is probably the most advanced ship built by the younger races
The White Star is not as big as a capital ship, however. You often see how other ships dwarf the White Star in size when they maneuver around them.
That 'Hi' when you first saw Marcus.
Ha Ha
I love Marcus Cole; he's my favourite character.
I love the cameo by Harlan Ellison as a psy cop.
SOOO many moments this season that I can't wait for you to see!!!
Loving these great reactions to a great series! Looking forward to these next two seasons, it's gonna be a wild ride!
I'm so happy you have started season 3
Hello! You just got a sub out of me, this episode just popped up on my feed. I am so pleased you are enjoying this show. B5 is one of my personal favorites. I eagerly await your reaction to S3 E10, "Severed Dreams"
Se3 ... where cabin pressure is lost and we hit ludicrous speed! 😂🤣
"They've gone to plaid"
Introduction to yet another favourite on this show 😀
*Ivanova:* _"And it looks just different enough so that it won't be recognized as a Minbari ship."_
*Linear:* _"Exactly."_
*Me:* _"…Seriously?"_ 🤔 😄
Looks like the same Video Toaster texture mapping to me.
@@sdfried4877 It's a little bit Vorlon to me, so the Shadows say; '...eeehhh - Minbari! Git them boogers!'
Love this season. So many highlights to come.
Marcus Cole. The Aragorn of Babylon 5.
I have often heard the Whitestar is a flying chicken design. 🤣🤣
Watched this on my tele so the gobsmack overload was bigger than usual which is entirely appropriate! The last Earth scene is a real kicker. And if you start going misty eyed for Marcus Mr Dimples will be sad! I mean seriously, this season is just something else...
Marcus Cole... I've been waiting for quite a while for your reaction to him. I don't think he made quite the impression I was hoping for
I will not say where in this season it is, but my absolute favorite single snippet is in this season. I hope you will have included it in the reaction to the episode it occurs in.
Grey 17 is missing?
All Minbari ships have an organic hull, while Vorlon ships are seemingly entirely organic. The White Star is more Minbari in it's construction with a built interior and organic hull coating.
The majority of Minbari ships have a crystalline hull, and the White Star is only semi-organic.
We’re you dehydrated when making this reaction? You looked a little thirsty when Marcus was on screen 🥴
Have you watched the intro to S3 yet? It's the most different, and kind of a gut punch. Very emotional.
My smile was SO BIG when I realized it was the Marcus episode, and when you called him beautiful I was like uh-huh. We seem to have similar tastes
The season 3 intro gives nothing away after the first episode and it's a great intro theme. Season 4 is my favourite theme but I prefer the visuals of the S3 intro.
The White Star is such a beautiful ship. Can't wait to get further into this season.
Of the new additions, I loved the White Star and that amazing green dress of Delenn's.
Marcus...well as Meatloaf once said, 2 outa 3 ain't bad😂 (And yes, I know how unpopular a take that is.)
And we still have no idea how Susan learned about the Shadows and the Rangers.
G'Kar is the Cassandra character, and then a whole lot more.
The shadows and Centauri were dividing up the galaxy, with the exception of Zagros VII.
The credits are part of the story in a way. No need to skip them.
When the show originally aired, fans used to jokingly say the white star looked like a plucked chicken
It begins...
"Oh Hi Marcus" :p
