Firefighters battled a raging fire at a commercial facility in Rosemead on Wednesday. July 24, 2024. KTLA 5 News - Keeping Southern Californians informed since 1947.
I was there at the scene and I saw one firefighter had water pour on him cause of the heat. He was laying down on the grass from exhaustion. The guy is amazing for putting his life on the line to stop the fire from spreading to nearby facilities and homes.
That's a Plastic molding company. The containers are probably full of plastic pellets of various kinds. VERY flammable and hard to put out once the get burning like that.
I sometimes use the bike lane across from this fire. There has been multiple fires that happened here in the past. There's also a bunch of homeless encampments nearby. If you go south of the bike lane you are going to see dozens of homeless encampments right next to the bike path not too far off from this fire.
A simple search through Google and Google Maps shows it's plastics that is burning...and based on the map imagery it looks like it's being stored very crudely.
Come on Gov Newsom.... Enact legislation that outlaws wildfires and structure fires! It seems like you want to regulate everything in this state, so why not outlaw fire? It ought to work about as well as all of your gun regulations.
Firefighters may not fight fires for months usually but when they do they specialize in where they work at. These are trained commercial firefighters. Slightly different than residential. They have gears for hazmat, portable water cannons, foam trucks, and water tankers.

These firefighter deserve at least 300.00 $ per hour instead of what they have been paid. They are risking their own lives like solders in the battle. Not everyone can do their jobs, for surely, I can't.

We don't operate our helicopters on fires like this for several reasons.... power lines, fire crews on the ground, no visibility from the thick black smoke, rotor blade down wash would spread and accelerate the fire, and our helicopters (depending upon size) only drop 360 gallons or 1000 gallons of water per drop with a turn around time of several minutes between drops. The master streams operating by ground crews are delivering between 1000-1500 gallons of water per minute. It all comes down to Safety !
You would think by now that firefighting would have evolved from 'let's spray water on the flames to make fuel wet' to let's spray something on it that would choke off oxygen.

There is a water treatment near by. I would be cautious of the drinking water in that area!

There is a serious risk involved in A flying low enough to target drop and B flying into that black and thick a smoke.
