14:30 - We missed a rule. If an unclaimed building has no open spaces, then you can start a new building of that color elsewhere. This orange building could grow once, and then can't anymore. If this happened, then a new orange could be started in a much more advantageous spot!
26:32 - In this instance, a new orange building could be started.
The real question: is it still funky and cold?
It took me far too long to get this.
@@JonGetsGames Showing my age (and maybe yours). :)
Great game! This is one of my favorites, too. Just a small note about that orange palace in the bottom right - if it is impossible to add building pieces to an unclaimed palace, you CAN start a new palace of that color elsewhere. Then, of course, everyone must add pieces of that color to the new palace as usual.
Ah, thanks for pointing that out! We did miss that rule, and this would have given me a lot more options to get out of that hole I found myself in. Great to know for the future, unfortunate it happened here. I imagine the board would have been far more crowded if we had played that correctly.
It's about time this game gets a reprint. Can't find it anywhere but scalpers...
I got super lucky with this one, was able to trade it for a couple games with a total value of around $50.
Love this game!
Spent a while yelling at the screen. I thought Anastasia would neutral claim that tiny grey and put a grey in the top right. It could have been huge.
It definitely could have been, and yeah I think we both could have played better if we were more experienced. She did get 7 points out of that tiny grey building even so, but it could have been more in the top right.
@@JonGetsGames You definitely showed off the difficult decisions that arise through play.
I sold this game and sort of regret it, it's a great OG euro. Like you, I've been getting a bit fatiqued of all the modern euros, and leaning more towards more streamlined and more interactive games, so I'd love to re-aqcuire this one.
I hope you succeed!
Thanks for the play thru! Gives me similar vibes to my favorite abstract game: Babylonia by Reiner Knizia. You should definitely check it out if you haven’t tried it before!
Babylonia is great! My only gripe is it can feel a bit fiddly with bookkeeping all the points gained near the end of the game.
33:00 Here Anastasia could stable and claim, she would have 6 to your 5 and saved herself a stable. Even if you stabled your brown you would only tie.
Yeah, great points. We definitely fumbled strategically in this one (me far more than she did).
I've heard good things! 🏙
