This is way better than what I tell players. I say "Just get to karma level 3 near the entrance and head to the pipe with the pink glow, left of the room with the large overhang"
I should tell them to go left past the purple pipes, or below the overhang and into a room with a floating box, then down and to the bottom left and then when there's a pool of water in a pit then go right into the cool zone.

The way the pole plant slowly reached for that lizard was pretty ominous. Also reminds me of that theory that monster kelp is just a really old pole plant.
You miss out on some of the stuff (such as colored pearls), but I do think that Monk is better for first timers. There is less enemies and some of the harder enemies don't pop up. It'll give newbies time to get used to the mechanics and controls before moving on to Survivor.
As someone who doesn't like punishing games, i very much enjoyed Rain World when playing Monk. Couldn't finish it on Survivor out of frustration... Monk is only slightly easier, but it's significantly less punishing.
For anyone who still might see this, monk not only misses out on lore opportunities but it's also weaker; monk is slower, has less lung capacity for swimming, spears do less damage, things like that. To top it off, one of the most frustrating areas in the game for many players is even harder on monk for lore reasons.
@@recenityz for me, having to find less food to hibernate balanced it out. But the real huge difference is that the monk doesn't loose carma progress when he dies. That's the real game changer for me.

At any rate, the physical limitations of the monk bothered me a great deal considering I'm most used to hunter, who is really fast and strong. Makes me feel comparatively defenseless but I play very aggressively so I definitely feel it more than some people would
"Lizard Tunnel" - I always call these Raptor Tunnels because I first saw this mechanic used in Monster Hunter games. The raptors would be able to pop into small cave openings that you and other monsters couldn't get into and these would be shortcuts to other areas of the map.

Amazing tutorial, this is definitely enough for new peeps to enjoy rainworld. As a veteran player I played with a new savefile and massacred the local outskirts population to spawn a red lizard lol I pretty much have the whole map memorized now at the back of my head, you can also do almost all the achievements in this region alone. Except for "the wonderer" "the dragon slayer" and "the scholar". If you manage exterminate the scavenger toll you could steal all the pearls there and store it on a hibernation station. Then slowly trickle it down and give them to scavs for the "chieftain" achievement
I've once had the game bugged on survivor where all of the spawns were like doubled, example monster kelps were always in bunches of two in shaded citadel wet zone.
Most likely not. With the approach of downpour DLC and update releasing I am also trying to be careful about material not being outdated. Because there is a lot of advice and videos that will be outdated once that update drops. My next major bit of content for Rain World will indeed just be stuff related to downpour DLC and update when they drop.
bro i had no idea what the symbols meant so i've just been on like cycle 8 or whatever figuring out what i'm meant to do besides survive. That "door" does not look like a door and i had no idea thats what the game wanted me to do
@@thatguybwarch i then went on to not realize you had to stand still for a while for the gate to open so i spent another 20 or so cycles in the outskirts and murdered almost every lizard. Accidentally became the apex predator.
I am a new player but a pole plant did give up on me after I was able to just hold on to a pole for about 5 minutes or so. Idk if it was worth my time or not XD
Oh...... i wasn't "lost" at all, I found the gate but didn't have the karma on the first level.... If game mechanics aren't made known to the player, that's bad game design. I spent hours mastering the slaying of lizards and backflips before learning about karma. To players who don't know what karma is yet, the gate just seems like a regular wall.
I had an ample food supply, so I explore, and I die. Thanks to dying, my exploration is useless because I see a gate, and I think "oh I must need to go to some other region of the map"
*Industrial complex spoilers i guess* i have played this game not for long and i am worried that freakin birds from hell, humans that have weird behavior and will never be friends no matter how many pearls i give, and invisible lizards that are mostly dangerous because tongue not cuz camo are a SLIGHT DIFFICULTY RAISE then i have no idea how bad this is gonna get. I hate and love this game at the same time, getting killed by lizards is fun 10/10 experience play this if you love torturing yourself
I am in the first level and the lizards don't even attack me. They attack each other instead. So far the AI is quite disappointing for me. But I just started. I saw gameplays where the AI is pretty good. That was the main reason why I want to play Rain World.
unfortunately I refunded this game already because the AI did not behave the way it should. I just had a look, yes I had the monk. My Character was the yellow slug. :D@@thatguybwarch
@@renemuller6967 Monk has the ability that predators are less likely to see him/ignore him, stealthy kinda. It's an easy mode for new players. If you played literally any other slugcat you would see the AI you wanted to see.
@@renemuller6967 each slugcat has different abilities, a different story, different difficulty, and differences in the world and creatures that can spawn/where. Monk is easy mode but weak in strength and doesn't have gate restrictions, survivor is "normal mode" and the originally first released slugcat just all around fine skillset, hunter is a red slugcat and can dual wield spears super strong hard mode but will die of cancer in a limited number of ingame days, Spearmaster can spawn their own spears from their tail, Rivulet has a large oxygen supply for underwater use and is incredibly fast underwater as well as the most athletic slugcat overall, and so on and so forth.
Is the whole game the same "throwing rocks and spears, and picking it again after you throw it" type of combat? Like, do you ever get an automatically reloading weapon for more convenience or do you have to just... Learn to repick up your spear over and over?
A few new items get added into the fray, one new weapon. But the core of it is spear throwing the whole way through. Rain World emphasizes mastery and usage of spears in different ways, rather than variety of arsenal. The upcoming DLC will expand upon items/weapons/techniques. The upcoming DLC also has a character who specifically makes needing to retrieve spears not a thing, Spearmaster, who can spawn spears infinitely from his tail.

@@ericv738 Glad it helped! Rain World's a particular taste, like anchovies kinda. Not everybody will love it or is able to love it. Hell, my liking of it went rapidly up and down my first playthrough. Sometimes I utterly despised it, and then I'd find a new area with new creatures and start loving it again. It's a very artful and heartfelt game full of passion, but that doesn't guarantee any liking from an audience member if they just flatout don't like the game that it is. If you end up not liking it, no biggie, sometimes ya gotta be in the minority of disliking what is perception-wise a popular must-like game. I'm wishing you luck, brave slugcat!!

I try to throw rocks or something at him, I miss, I don't understand how to aim the things. So instead I just ran away. Am I supposed to kill the lizard? Am I supposed to explore the whole level and find something? I just randomly reached a new hibernation location and presumably advanced the game, but all I did was run away. How do I know if this is even the right hibernation location. Where do I even find a spear at. How do I do that weird jump flip thing. These aren't questions necessarily so much as annoyances, the game should be more transparent.
@@ericv738 Rain World has a lot of RNG/random elements. Spears come seldomly and randomly, keeping one with you is a skill. Killing is not exactly a goal, survival is. You do not have to kill a single creature to beat the game, and all can be avoided. It's play style preference, I PERSONALLY found the killing fun, so I tried to kill every hostile creature I came across. But you can play pacifist and probably have an easier time of it. Hibernation raises you a level, but actual progress is reaching new regions, which look wildly different to each other. The Game isn't clear because it wants you to figure everything out and explore on your own, It's not tutorialized in a traditional game sense. Some people will like this since they're sick of tutorials that are overtly inserted into games, some people hate this because they want more direction out of games no matter what. Rain World is very hard and punishing, it wants you to really get into the idea that you are a little creature in a hostile world where almost everything can kill you. Roleplay and immersion. I highly recommend hitting up the rain world discord in the video description if you have more questions you want answers to. The more immediate form of communication can be more helpful.
i'm trapped in farm arrays at karma 0 (because of various bullshit) and cant find food other than bats that are always completely out of my reach, should i just reset my save and try again
A few suggestions if you're still stuck: 1. If you have a spare passage (unlocked along with achievements), you can fast travel to another region you've already found. Remember to pick your shelter! 2. Try the popcorn plant in the room right outside the gate room to see if it's come back. If it has, spear it, eat, and sleep in the shelter in the same room before heading to the gate the next cycle. Remember to pick up a pearl for the scavenger toll. I assume you're trying to get to the region west of farm arrays. There are two other ways to get there, so don't worry about not being able to beat the game!

Considering you can lineage a pole plant into monster kelp if you kill it enough times, I support this theory

As a side note, quitting 30 seconds after exiting a den will not lower your karma. Good if you merc your spear or any other item you might want back.

This is a very valid experience. The game can be confusing with its non-explanation and things can be misunderstood quite a bit.

Oh noodle flies? Just don't bug them and you'll usually be fine! Momma noodleflies are non-hostile until you hurt or eat their young.

You can get out, gauranteed. You probably don't know all the food you can eat there, and the locations of it.
A few suggestions if you're still stuck:
