For those who are thinking of trying this but are asked to make a billing account, there is a 1 year free trial and with $300 free trial credit. Google maps asks for the credit details but it will not charge unless you manually continue your account after the free trial.
For those who made an account after watching this and got 0.000 latitude and longitude, you have to first enable your API by going to your account and enabling the Geolocation API under the APIs tab.
This worked for me. Thank you for posting this tutorial!

wow ! very nice video !! in this video u r manually typing the latitude and longitude into google maps , but i think with the help of esp8266 u can send that latitude & longitude value to the google map api as a web request and u can see the current location and expected location there itself . Thank u once again bro for u video . And try to upload more videos related to esp8266.

Found the same source code at multiple location. But this doesn't seems to work. Basically the secure port 443 connection with google services doesn't gets established. Any idea what can be done?? Will be glad if someone is able to help me out

I want to send my mobile geolocation to another phone. Trigger should come from an esp8266 button. When button is pressed, google map location link should be sent to other mobile. As an sos or emergency button.
At the time of generating API key from geolocation After clicking on enable billing it's asking for bank details and debit card details.. do we provide all the details and there is any charges for getting key..
Your code does not work for anybody who has tried it. It sends MNC and MCC of UK with the blogger's API Key instead of the API key entered by the user.Please check it.

you have to go to google console and create a billing account that was not shown in this tutorial by which you are able to use this api
I always knew that Android devices and track user location with only wifi and cellular info, didn't know that Google has API open for this though.
I m from Brazil. Dear, excellent video. I saw that you are interested in location. Do you think it is possible to use esp8266 to do wifi location? Example 4 wifi routers separated by 100 meters each, forming a square. And for the time difference and triangulation find your location?

Hi..is it right that we will get the coordinate of the ESP itself or of the Router ( or AP ) where the ESP is connected to?...i guess we will get the pos from the AP...imagine i have placed 5 different ESP´s on a soccer-Field..all are connected to my mobile NetGear-HotSpot...WOULD every single ESP get a different Coordinate with this method?? ..mmh i will try this asap..it would solve me a big issue :-)

So if user placed his/her API key in Key variable wont reflect.

Board just need to know the wifi name and password of one router/hotspot as it need to talk to Google via internet.
Rest of all the router's name is sufficient for the board to track the location. No need of password in that case
