Most of the city sets that are retiring I either wasn’t a fan of or don’t have the space for them but I managed to get most of the building sets such as Train Station, Downtown and Apartment Building. Unless you have them already I recommend getting them while you can and knowing your brain I’m sure you can figure out how to modify them.

@@explosivo666 According to Brickset, the 2018 Cargo train doesn't even have a retirement date assigned to it yet! - So it's going to still be around for a while yet !
In the Netherlands, they're also still selling the 60198 Cargo Train. It's even still on the Dutch Lego site (I think it's still selling in all of Europe). I went to both the Canadian and USA Lego site, all three of the train sets for 2022 are still listed on the Lego site with no yellow sign saying retiring soon and I went through European countries on the Lego site, it said only the 2022 train station and the 2022 freight train had the yellow sign that said retiring soon while the 2022 passenger train and the 2018 cargo train does not show the yellow sign saying retiring soon. This is very unusual.
@@Legocitystarwarsfan Yes, it is very unusual. Brickset usually has the retirement dates attached to a set, if they have been announced, and that's where I checked, and 60198 has no date attached to it. But the yellow and blue passenger train from the same year (2018) retired in July 2022 !
In addition to those 2 City Space sets we're losing a couple other space sets. Both of the actually space Friends Space sets are retiring leaving only the Stargazing set. As well as both Alien Planet Habitat and Alien Pack.
yes, you’re right… there are literally hundreds of sets retiring across all the Lego themes, but I mainly focus on Lego City, and city building, so only included the City sets in my video.
The Red Panda has appeared in a couple other sets already. Notably the other appearances are the DreamZzz theme. Specially Castle Nocturnia and Izzies Dream Animals.
Thanks for letting me know… I obviously need to pay more attention to the Dreamzzz theme!! Being in mu;tip,E sets should hopefully mean it won’t cost too much on Bricklink.

Here in the U.S., that Space three-pack was available at Walmart. I’ve seen it a few times and have considered picking it up-I haven’t gotten any of the individual sets from it yet.
I've never seen it anywhere other than Lego Brand stores in the UK, but how exclusive sets are seem to be different in different countries. I hope you manage to find it on discount!
@ Walmart typically does have these three-packs during the holidays-usually consisting of sets about to retire. In previous years, I’ve seen them for Star Wars and Friends as well. I’ve never seen one outside of Walmart, except I have seen this Space set in my LEGO store. I believe Costco does three-packs as well, but I don’t have a membership there.
A bit surprising that the freight train is going to be retiring at the end of this year. I thought it was going to stay around for about four years like all the other City train sets, same with the station. Very interesting that the passenger train isn't going though, and that the 2018 cargo train is still around. I wonder if it may be because the freight train and station might not have sold so well, and that's why Lego is choosing to retire them early. Although I don't exactly know what contributes to Lego sets having long or short life-spans, so that is just my guess.
Yes, it's all a bit strange, the 2018 cargo train doesn't seem to even have a retirement date attache dot it yet either!! - So maybe you're right, the older cargo train has sold much better than the new one?
I imagine that they will replace it with another one fairly soon. We don't have very long breaks without a train station for sale. But if you're in desperate need for one, I guess you should keep your eye open for one soon. It's currently 16% off at Amazon.
I know that they always have a fire station and a police station, but in the last few years they have done some really good new sun themes and sets. The whole space range was amazing this year. In the last few years the buildings have been g-rest (grocery store, ice cream store, even the more unusual looking apartment building and down town) Also new things like the tram instead of a train. I think of the “boring” police and fire sets for newcomers to Lego, who haven’t bought one before.
I swore all the animal sets just legitimately came out in the summer what?! How are they leaving already I didn't even know they were released in January I thought they were all released in the summer where all the animal sets came out
Yes I was amazed that sets that only came out this year are being retired ahead of ones from previous years... but we have to just presume that EGO know what they are doing !
Great video, very informative. I enjoyed your comments and insights about those retiring sets. My favorites are definitively appartment buildings and downtown. I'm sure their mini-modular style is here to stay, it's amazing !
yes, they are both very different from the City sets that have come before them! And making a set so it can be configured in a few different ways is also a REALLY nice feature for City sets.
I think you are right, but personally I do not care in particular about the vast majority of these sets. The main draw for me is getting unique things like the animals in a cheap way from the Arctic and Jungle explorer sets. Nearly all the vehicles and buildings are far too unrealistic and more meant as playsets for kids. I'd prefer to design those on my own and I think that is the case for many older lego city fans. I gave some examples in a post below of sets that I liked, but basically all the small explorer sets are worth it, especially on a discount.
I think you’re right that it can be underrated, but I don’t think it’s a forgotten theme, think how many sets get released each year, we’ve had the entire space sub-theme this year and all the explorers sets. As far as sales goes, it’s one of their most popular themes.
@MinifigJez nowadays the most popular themes are the ones from shows and such, so with all the new themes city was kind of buried at the bottom, so I just personally haven't given it much thought, is what I was trying to say.
I wouldn't look into city theme probably if I didn't have kids. But city sets are really in their focus, and can be played by both boys and girls. In our home the most "played with" (in addition to Marvel and Batmam) sets are all police, firefighters, crane, airplane, train, train station, etc. Kids integrate it in every other theme they play with. Police is chasing Ninjas from Ninjago or Joker. They put villains in prison. Villans hijack train or plane, etc. There is bias on Lego themes depending on the age from which you look at it 😅
@@MinifigJez sorry but in one of my community post that is a voting for the best color spaceman, only one person voted and green won cuz he voted green, and I know you don’t like green, but vote anyway

I think the Arctic Explorer ship (60368) was actually a pretty well designed set. Expensive, but you do get a massive ship hull that can be repurposed for some other build if you want. Never a steal because of the very high MSRP price, but I picked it up for about 50 euros less than retail (33.4 GBP or 42.1 USD discount) and I think it is worth it if you can get an equally steep discount. The inside of the boat is quite well furnished and detailed and you get a little underwater treasure sidebuild, a small helicopter and a huge Orca with it. On a similar note, I also bought the Cargo Train (60198) and was surprised at how well it came together. Especially the locomotive is the best recent lego train model and it has quite a decent amount of track, a crane, a signal control tower, a forklift and an armored truck for valuables. This I would probably have bought at full price as well, but again I had a good discount from a toy store. Certainly one of the best RC train sets. The only downside I could find is that if you run it at full speed, it will derail in the corners, the motor is really powerful and the track cannot handle that speed.
I’m not sure that’s entirely true. it’s one of Lego’s most popular themes and unlike so many other themes that get cancelled after a few years, it’s effectively been going since Lego Town… FORTY FIVE YEARS AGO. You might be able to say that a few sets are boring, but definitely not the whole City theme!
@ definitely have seen one cool town set also it sells the best because it has the most verity the amount of sets that retired is bigger than all the currently available Star Wars sets I find that the city sets are pandering to children with to many play features and not enough detail
@@BrickedUp-d9h This is true, but one redeeming factor is that Lego also keeps the prices lower, especially if it is a smaller set. It's probably not entirely fair comparing the theme with the worst pricing (Starwars) with City, but still I think a lot of the smaller sets are reasonable in their pricing, precisely because they are for children in the first place.
