Lee, can I hire your shop to run a 3 color logo on custom made boxes? I'll have the boxes shipped to you and pay the S&H to have them shipped back to me.
Talking probably 500 boxes at a time. Plus I'm looking at about 250 boxes at a time with a 2 color print. I bought into this system, but not sure if I have the same drive to make it work that you have.
Great stuff! I would love to see a video on making the art and what software you use to do color separations. Something I’ve always thought I couldn’t learn . Keep up the great videos
Hey what’s up lee, cool seeing your channel come up, always like watching and talking shop. One thing since I know you’re a stickler for quality... don’t print flash print your underbase white. Do an Underbase, smoothing screen, colors, and a top/highlight white. May seem minuscule but you will save yourself headache in the long run from overflashing to the thickness of your print getting thinner and a higher quality print.
I've tried both ways quite a bit now, and I actually prefer to PFP my underbase still. I find you get a way more vibrant and uniform color, especially on black shirts. I just compensate the with higher screen mesh to keep the thickness down and end up with buttery smooth prints with perfect color
Lee Stuart I thought so too for the longest time... here’s what you do, print, flood completely again, and print the underbase, flash and do the rest. That’s how automatics print, they don’t pfp the underbase. I’m a one man shop as well and I’m super picky on my quality as well, I totally get where you’re coming from.
These videos are awesome man! I am a little behind you in the process but heading towards a similar goal. I own a fitness clothing line and am in the process of shopping for all of my screen printing equipment know. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey and helping everyone out along the way! Gunna be ordering some of your gear soon also partially to support you making the videos and helping me out, but also because i am digging the style!
That's rad, I'm always happy to hear I've helped out somehow. You'll be super pumped once you get that gear all set up and rolling, and thanks for the support man 🤘🏻
im glad i found your channel the fun dont give a fuck style ive learned a lot and feel comfortable spending the money for a full screen printing set up and diving in head first
Lee Stuart I've had good luck just diving in head first so far granted it'll be Chinese crap for now but the press is a spot on copy of a high end press that the guy from the print life channel uses 6x6 side clamp press little over 3k so hopefully it'll work out I only have a 5k budget to give this a shot for now on top of the vinyl decal stuff we already do
great vid thx for sharing. i do the post-run heat press nonsense, mostly on hoodies, but been wanting to try this method. i reduce my white w/ chino base and go through a 195 mesh. works great on tees but the fibrillation is present on the hoodies. pain in my @ss. Far as the reg issue goes it could be the screen mesh itself shifting from a bad glue job or just a dud or whatever.
For registration with a back clamp i sometimes put a piece of wood the same length as the screen so the pressure of the clamp is dispersed to the full length of the screen and not just the clamp head. Helped my press alot !
I think I know why your print came out of registration. I have used smoothing screens on my manual in the past. What I hate about them is that they take up a print head on your press. My press is 6 colors, so if im printing 6 colors then a smoothing screen is no longer an option. So to get around this I came up with a different smoothing technique. I use a breyer roller and parchment paper. After the first print comes out from under the flash, I throw the parchment on top, and start rolling the print smooth. This mimics the rollers that automatic machines use for smoothing. You just gotta do the rolling yourself, then hit the second pass of white, all before the next print is ready to come out from under the flash. Anyway, to get back to your registration issue in the video, what I believed happened is that the tack on your pallet was getting weak in the spot where the registration went off. And when you used all that pressure on the smoothing screen to smooth the print, you also moved the fabric of the shirt a bit. Hence putting it out of registration. This had happened to me and it took me a min to figure it out.
hey my man is there any chance you could help me find that drying cabinet that youve got in your dark room? ive looked in past videos but it seems im abit to daft to be able to find the name on my own. Thanks bro have a good day.
I had the same registration issue on my Ryonet press, I found out while printing. I needed to be a little less aggressive when lifting and lowering the print head and screen, they can shift on you. Also during your print run occasionally check to make sure the platens are still tight. When you swing the press sometimes the platens becomes loose which knocks out your registration.
Good point there Tommy B ! When i print multi colours i always have a check after 10 Ts. From what i have found from looking how to imProve it 100% would be SIDE CLAMPS instead of a back clamp.
@@johnstone5055 there is no point by using such a sheety press like this where you have to check if all is tight... I use M&R Sidewinder and I never have any problem during the long runs whole day.
I run a m&r diamond back auto...n do small print jobs on the manual an ive come across same problem.an i figured out its the same thing, just being to strong with the screen
YO dude! Congrats on everything you're doing, I discovered your channel recently and was very impressed. Couple of things. 1. Press jumping out of reg - It's possible and more likely that the reason the print is jumping out of registration is down to the shirt moving while on the platen ie not enough tack. Try refreshing you platens with a mist pf water, quick scrub with a cleaning pad to agitate the adhesive and then run it under the flash (if using waterbased platen adhesive that is. If using spray adhesive, just add more!) 2. To get the absolute smoothest print possible it's always better to have separate underbase and overprint white screens. So for this design, you would have 1. Base, 2. Green, 3. Highlight White (Just the white portion of the image that is visible). That way you have a maximum of 2 layers of ink across the design, whereas if you' printing then flashing then printing the underbase and then adding a green over the top of that, it essentially means the green portion of the design has 3 layers of ink. I did my first few jobs by print/flash/printing the underbase when I first started out and since switching to the above method (with the addition of the matting down screen after the underbase) was like levelling up in terms of print quality. Give it a go dude, you'll never look back :) Also, check this article out. I was guilty of doing almost all of these things when I first started (which actually was only 2.5 years ago), but once I read this and followed all the advice I really started making some serious progress: 2regularguys.com/five-mistakes-new-screen-printers-make/ Good luck buddy!
Just discovered your channel today and it's incredibly motivational and inspiring. I'm an apprentice digital printer at the moment, however im looking at getting into screen printing too as my girlfriend and i have just started to set up a clothing brand ourselves, however we currently run it off SpreadShirt due to being skint (student life 😭). Seeing your videos from the last few weeks and your print workshop video, as I say is really inspiring for us as it proves with a lot of hard work, it all pays off. Thanks for the videos ✌🏻
Dope and thanks for all your help! I’m a tattoo artist/ shop owner and have been making my own T-shirt’s for 4 years because I like to learn new shit.. We give them away to our clients as a thank you and get an extra exposure on the street. Honestly I’ve learned a ton of cool tips watching you. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Amazing work, man If you had a mentorship program I'd be first in line (these are all the rage nowdays lol) But while I wait I'll stay inspired by your hard work, truly a new standard to follow
Instead of using silicon spray, spray glue a teflon sheet to the bottom. From my experience the silicon is noticeable on the shirt first couple shirts, and then you have to constantly stop and spray. The Teflon is much better and what we moved onto.
I just want to say 2 things. 1- I own a dyna and started watching from the beginning. 2- you always give great content in your videos, no matter what it might be. Keep up the good work bruh. I need to add some more of your shirts to my wardrobe! Thirty eight ride or die!
If it jumps it might be a dent in the screen to where it's not making contact. Switch the actual screen and test a different screen and Mark the bad one.
we used shaving cream/gel on the press... i think the boss just liked the smell ? :D you might want to check on the "cone" where you rotate on, if there is a little play where the arm is attached, you can get a reg shift even tho everything is thight. (aaargh i hope this is understandable even with my crappy english)
My take as to why your registration is shifting is possibly that when you are stretching your shirt across the tacked pallet, a stretched shirt will tend to shrink profusely under the flash, thus causing the registration issues. Let me know if that makes sense.
Good video . Sir u have any video about ahmm . when the white ink on black shirt change the color . white put like a grey . the name in english i dont know . i have this problem Thank u for answer and sorry for my english
Old video I know, but when I get a random screen out of registration it's normally because when I load the shirt, it covers the alignment bolts and I don't notice, so I pull down the screen with the cloth in the way and it nudges one way or the other
How much shirts can you print on a basic week day when the customers come to you and the phone is ringing? And are you cool with weekly pieces which gets out to the customers?
I have a question so i wanna dip my toes in screen printing and id like to start by making screens and get good at developing first then just do the paint application on a table before i throw all my money at presses and equipment . So i was wondering if you have recommendations on a setup for example that vacuum seal exposure unit screens paint .

Question for you- we tried the flattening screen with the silicone spray, didn’t work for us at all. Now doing the flattening after with our heat press. Using baking parchment, but the ink still glosses. Running at 150 degrees C for 5 seconds. How do you achieve the matte finish with a heat press?
If the flattening screen isn't working, you're most likely over flashing it. But if you wanna go the heat press route then kraft paper is what you want for a cover sheet if you're looking for a matte finish
great production on your videos - couple things to check is the play in your registration gate and the screws in all your platens - also that your off contact is on time (and level) - I can't wait for the day that I can take a blow torch to my RH press man - keep up the awesome work
Funny watching this episode. I don't think a lot of things happened that were talked about here. Heck I don't think i've seen you use the flattening screen ever since this episode. What happened? You find some ink that lays way smoother or just change the shirt brand you print on?
Great work Lee! You work your ass off and people notice. When you get the chance make some of your brand! I’d love to buy a working class hauling ass when I get the chance!!
Thanks man. I've been neglecting the brand a little lately to get a lock on the new business, but I'll be going strong with some new product real soon 🤘🏻
Sure did, but I also made a ton of sacrifices along the way. I didn't spend a dime on anything I didn't absolutely need and I didn't pay myself for well over a year
Honestly, haven't used it in like a year haha. Now that I've got better print technique, it isn't really needed. This is still a good way to get nice prints before you have that experience though, except I'd use reducer on the screen rather than white ink. It glides much easier
Green was on a 160 I believe. But this video is 3 years old and I was maybe a month into printing at the time, my process is very much refined now. I don't even remember the last time I used a 110 for anything 😂
The real problem is the shirts. I have been screening since '92, and back then only the cheapo shirts had fibre sticking up like that. Now it seems every brand trying to be magically soft has created a situation where there shirts suck to print on. I have printed 1000's of shirts and this was rarely an issue. Don't get me started on any of the 'tri-blends' Heat press upgrade????????!!!!!!! Sure glad I have gone to auto. Matting down the fibres doesn't affect production speed. My dream machine will be a 14/16: Lint pick up, white, flash, mat down, 2nd white, 2nd flash, 7 top colors and a bump white. Mean time working the 8/10. Printed many shirts manually on a home built 6 color, before my first factory manual. Good channel. Printing shirts is still fun, most of the time. Cheers
Hey, I am from Austria and I am about ten years now screen printer and I am a mediadesigner.... may I can help you in future? In your shop at this quality you Need 2-3 workers... but you make an amazing job!
I just stopped outsourcing screen printing and have brought it inhouse because we bought the QS200, eliminating all the process of burning screens. I did realize that it was very rough to the feel but when we put it under the heat press it was incredibly smooth. Why not just do that? Seems a lot easier.
my-man Im a screen printer...the reason I think every few prints your second color is going out of rego or your white is moving is I think?.... cause its happen to me in production, I noticed when you pull the squeegee you pull towards the carousel which sometimes causes your screen to go out of rego...If you pull towards you I think you won't have any rego issues cause of the direction and contact the screen is making with the garment....hope this help ;) btw dope video.
i’ve used both vastex and hopkins manuals and i’ve found that vastex presses never lose registration. i currently use a vastex. once i used a vastex 2000 i never looked back.
Hi Lee, another nice video. I have a question , I watched a video where heat press is used to fix roughness in the print in combination with teflon paper or curing paper do you know if this method you using and with the heat press would give you same results?

Thanks a lot man. I've been wondering that myself, I think I'll come up with a design or two to learn how to use them and make a vid about it 🤘🏻
Funny watching this episode. I don't think a lot of things happened that were talked about here. Heck I don't think i've seen you use the flattening screen ever since this episode. What happened? You find some ink that lays way smoother or just change the shirt brand you print on?
I haven't used a flattening screen in 2 years now haha. I dialed in my technique and setup on press to where I can print totally smooth without one
Lee, who is your t-shirt supplier? Nice work
Great work Lee!
Thanks for sharing Lee. Enjoy hanging out w ya on RUclips and CMON SPRING!!! I’m ready to ride
Glad to hear it man 🤘🏻
And today we saw the dangers that the cameras can go through to get us the beautiful b roll. Oh, and the rest of the professional quality video~
These things have hit the ground more times than I care to count 😂
what kind of size or kind of mesh you used?
Did you make all the money to buy this equipment from your brand? If so that's hella dope. lol i was price checking today and WOW!
Sure did, but I also made a ton of sacrifices along the way. I didn't spend a dime on anything I didn't absolutely need and I didn't pay myself for well over a year
@@leestuart38 that's rad though!!! well done!
Wouldn't DTG be easier?
Thanx and keep it up .you have brought screen printing RUclips videos to a new level.
Thanks, that's awesome to hear 🤘🏻
hey Lee! what is it that you spray at 5:40 ?
how can your workshop so clean after lots of work done there..?😝😝 no where any ink dropped....
Simple...I clean up after myself
What paint did you use sir? Thanks
Now that you have a bunch more experience under your belt; how do you feel about his technique now?
Honestly, haven't used it in like a year haha. Now that I've got better print technique, it isn't really needed. This is still a good way to get nice prints before you have that experience though, except I'd use reducer on the screen rather than white ink. It glides much easier
Would you please give an update on if you have had any further registration issues with this press????
There were a few small bugs to work out in both the press and my skills, but since then it's been solid 🤘🏻
why print the green through a 110 mesh? you can get the same results through a 200 or even a 230.
Green was on a 160 I believe. But this video is 3 years old and I was maybe a month into printing at the time, my process is very much refined now. I don't even remember the last time I used a 110 for anything 😂
Great vid, what kind of silicone do you use for you matting screen?
Thanks man. You can use any kind of low viscosity silicone spray
I hope you know all my tee shirts look like shit now! Lol.
That's the goal haha!
The real problem is the shirts. I have been screening since '92, and back then only the cheapo shirts had fibre sticking up like that. Now it seems every brand trying to be magically soft has created a situation where there shirts suck to print on.
I have printed 1000's of shirts and this was rarely an issue. Don't get me started on any of the 'tri-blends'
Heat press upgrade????????!!!!!!!
Cheers
Hi do you have templates for creating registration marks? I'm using 20x24in screens
There's a free reg marks you can download from my website roguelabmfg.com
Thank youuuu
@ 7:30, it's gremlins dude.
Dude, i bet you waste so much time just moving your camera around.
Haha yup. But it makes the video not suck so what can ya do
Hey, I am from Austria and I am about ten years now screen printer and I am a mediadesigner.... may I can help you in future? In your shop at this quality you Need 2-3 workers... but you make an amazing job!
I just stopped outsourcing screen printing and have brought it inhouse because we bought the QS200, eliminating all the process of burning screens. I did realize that it was very rough to the feel but when we put it under the heat press it was incredibly smooth. Why not just do that? Seems a lot easier.
Like always another banger🙌 keep up the great work my dude
Thanks dude 🤘🏻
my-man Im a screen printer...the reason I think every few prints your second color is going out of rego or your white is moving is I think?.... cause its happen to me in production, I noticed when you pull the squeegee you pull towards the carousel which sometimes causes your screen to go out of rego...If you pull towards you I think you won't have any rego issues cause of the direction and contact the screen is making with the garment....hope this help ;) btw dope video.
i’ve used both vastex and hopkins manuals and i’ve found that vastex presses never lose registration. i currently use a vastex. once i used a vastex 2000 i never looked back.
Hi Lee, another nice video. I have a question , I watched a video where heat press is used to fix roughness in the print in combination with teflon paper or curing paper do you know if this method you using and with the heat press would give you same results?
