    thank you so much for all this lovely info, I am a novice graphic designer from Montreal Canada who is struggling tremendously with landing my first job. the problem seems to be that most jobs are paying the lower end of the entry-level salary, but make demands that turn you into forms of a jack of all trades, which never allows you to be qualified for most jobs, even though they require you to have a graphic design base. it just never seems to be enough.. I've also notice how competitive this field is, it seems there are a lot of mamatures with the belief that this profession is purely joy, which creates a lot of noise for those who are more serious. plz give me some insights if you can

      This video just focuses on that traditional design track and there is freelancing too, which is not for everybody. There are some companies out there that have it all wrong and they are going to have a hard time finding the right person for the pay the are offering. They refuses to pay more than they have to and try to combine graphic design, social media and web design into on position making it almost impossible to find the person person. Yet, they still offer the lower range. The larger the company gets the more of a traditional structure they have for their marketing and design departments. You have less and less of this going on. Also ad agencies seem to have their stuff together and have experience understanding the creatives side of things as that is their lifeblood. It is easy to find jobs online for graphic design and get discouraged. Part of that is an issue with the hiring side. Sometimes we can do something about it but most of the times we just need to continue to hunt for the right company that will treat our profession with respect. That will take time. The future videos in this series will feature ways to upskill to make yourself more valuable to possible companies. I personally went the freelance route in my own career and found freedom there as I could control my pay, but as I said before that is not for everyone and cashflow can be unstable those first few years.

    Thanks for this Lindsay! I do have a question from this awesome information: What is the point in getting the work done fast working at an agency but you don't really get paid more for working fast?

    • @LindsayMarsh
      @LindsayMarsh  Год назад +1

      possible job promotion. But really what gets you promoted is being dependable but also producing good ideas that are used by the higher ups. In freelancing if you price per project instead of hourly and you are fast you are rewarded instantly. Other situations not as much, more intangible rewards and respect. Improper pacing is a big issue and why so many get burned out working at agency situations.

    Lindsay Thank you for your video. i have a question.I want to do freelance only.i have been learning graphic design from your courses and other youtube videos.But I have no practical work experience.is it enough to start as a graphic design freelancer?

    • @LindsayMarsh
      @LindsayMarsh  Год назад +1

      Yes! You can start anytime. Fill up your portfolio with practice work, mock projects etc. Choose 3-6 amazing projects to feature in your portfolio. It might take some time to work on this. But once you have a solid portfolio you have what you need too start seeking clients. Clients look more at what you can do and less on experience as you can show your level of experience through your project work. It does not have to be paid project work in my experience at first. Slowly you will be able to replace the mock projects with real paid work and testimonials.

    Next one i guess Can graphic designer be a millionaire? what is your thinking about that marsh? Please Give something like gold

    • @LindsayMarsh
      @LindsayMarsh  Год назад +3

      yes it is possible but you have to think outside of just client work. You have to create digital content to sell. that way you can scale it over time and make more money than you would with a salary. Some designers licenses their work to companies and make money that way. Some do videos, while others do training or consulting.
