  • All you LeBidiots enjoy your little plastic bubble ring you barley won against a super under matched 5 seed with big time help from those flop call happy refs...it was pathetic to watch "The King" struggle once again to put out "Glass Joe" That's what makes me sick to my stomach when these dweebs have the audasity to say LeBron is better than Mike or Bird!!! I'm having a hard time figuring out who's The goat? I wanna say Mike but i'm conflicted Bird is the only player to my knowledge that has swept a Michael Jordan Bull's team TWICE so I guess it depends who you ask but one things for sure LeBron would've considered him self lucky if he would've Super teamed slithered his way to a single title back when the NBA was the NBA...People say i'm a LeBron Hater and I tell'em i'm just a truth teller but idk now I just might be by default after seeing him act like he really did something against basically a one man show and then beg for respect cause the Clippers pulled one of the biggest choke jobs in sports history? It was disgusting! that was hard to swallow that was truly the first time I WAS HATING ON "The so called King" THAT WAS A FREEBEE FACTS so how can you be proud of that? seriously??? so now i'm sure he's way at the bottom of the top ten all-time list if he's even on there! 1 Mike 1 Bird 3 Kareem 4 Russel 5 Magic 6 Hakeem 7 Wilt 8 Shaq 9 Kobe 10 Duncan who is he better than? All hail Larry Legend The Greatest Small Forward in NBA History by far!!!!!!!!!!!

    Three other significant differences between Bird and LaBron. Bird came into the NBA after playing in college for 4 years. This gave him increasing competition, maturity, and coaching. LaBron was a high school graduate, and likely 'favored student' as many talented HS students are. Almost no competition, and limited coaching.
    Bird made his college team better each year because he understood that winning in basketball was a team effort., and getting his teammates involved meant winning.
    LaBron had never faced NBA caliber competition, despite his great skills. He also did not have a good grasp of team play because to that point he was so much better than his teammates. Additionally, his maturity was 4 years behind Bird.
    So Bird's first 7 years included 2 championships, countless playoff games, 3 NBA MVP awards, 3 runner-up MVP nominations, multiple playoff MVP, all star game MVP, and just a lot of well deserved accolades.
    It took 4 years for LaBron to get to the playoffs. No finals. No MVP.
    LaBron is a great player but Bird left him at the starting block.

    I felt compelled to post this to all who consider Bird as a poor defender, that assessment on Bird is not accurate. In the 82-83 season Bird finished tied for 3rd place for the DPOY award. That is also the 1st year the award was created. Bird was on 3 all defensive teams ( 2nd team) and if the DPOY had existed the previous 3 years Bird would have been in the discussion. His standing vertical jump as a rookie was 28 inches, same as Karl Malone. Bird had great endurance, he wore other players out after 3 quarters and had great hands and could recognize the other teams offensive sets. Bird led the league in defensive win shares 4 times and was 7 times in the top 5. Bird was also once 2nd in DRTG and 6 times was in the top 10 in DRTG. If you research Sports Illustrated from Nov. 9th of 1981 issue Bird is on the cover as "The NBA's Best All-Around Player" and on page 84 is a photo of Bird blocking Kareem's skyhook. Toward the end of his career Bird was not a good defender, but in his earlier years = yes he was. And when you consider he created the 50-40-90 club and did it 2 seasons in a row and the 29.9 points per game scoring load stood as the highest ppg for over 25 years, you begin to realize this guy was unparalleled on a skills and IQ and desire to win basketball measurement. He actually finished 4th in MVP voting as a rookie (won ROY and helped Boston with the 32 game win turnaround from 29 to 61) and then the next 8 years was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3 and then 2 again for the MVP. In 1986 he was looked upon as the greatest non-center to ever play, surpassing Oscar Robertson. Then the heel surgery and back issues and Magic and Jordan dominated. Let's be sure to give his due respect.

    Shannon Sharp is making a stupid argument(as usual). Jordan lost to the eventual champion Celtics, a team that had FOUR HALL OF FAMERS in 86 in only his second season, a season which he played only 18 games in coming back from a broken foot and still willed the team to the playoffs, and then lost to them again in his third season. Lebron didn’t even make the playoffs his first two seasons and had a better team than MJ did. Bird not only beat Jordan but he beat Magic, Kareem and Isaiah as well. So you can’t compare Jordan who got beat by a top ten all time player in his 2-3 season to Lebron who didn’t even make the playoffs till his third and didn’t face nowhere near the same level of competition in the first round Jordan did.

Lebron makes great passes but, Larry made passes that made us rewind the VHS over and over again. When the game is on the line, Lebron fades, Larry shines. Lebron pads stats in garbage time, Larry cared about only 1 stat, the WIN. Lebron is worried about his legacy and place in the games history, and Larry doesn't seem to give a damn. All of the accomplishments of both players are really incredible. 2 facts remain. Today's NBA is a "no touch" league to encourage offense. Give Bird that kind of space and he would light up the score. And if they did 'foul' him his stripe number would be off the charts. His WORST free throw year is better than LBJs BEST year.
    Second, Bird made everyone around him better. In 1986 there was a stretch of 27 (may have been 29) games in a row where ALL 5 starters on the Celtics scored in DOUBLE figures. Find a team with that record now. Too many ball hogs.
    You reply, "Well, they were all hall of famers, so of course they could score." Bird made them HOF candidates by enabling their best play. McHale was a great forward, shot blocker, rebounder. But unless There was someone to feed him the ball he would have been just another good forward with some offensive moves.
    Bird was about winning, not about his brand. He was about competition and how he could dominate the other player and the other team. Not about his stats. The only thing that was important to him was that "W" at the end of the day. You cannot say that about ego-driven Labron.
    In any GOAT discussion I feel you need to consider how the individual affects those around him. Just look at the All Star games where Bird played. His team benefited when he was on the floor. Didn't matter if they were players from his Eastdrn Conference rivals the previous week, he would still feed them the ball for a score.
    Then listen to his former teammates. And former coaches. All of them will talk about his unselfish play. You won't find those quotes for LaBron. Ever. Consider what Bird did for Indiana State in his 3 years on the court with them.
    Jordan is considered to be the GOAT by many people. But Bird and company swept the Bills 2years in a row in the playoffs. Jordan scored 63 in a playoff game against Boston and still LOST the game. He needed to get his teammates involved more, and when he did went on to win 6 championships. Took a few years. Bird improved his team tremendously the FIRST year he was in Boston, and a championship in the second.
    LaBron is a superior basketball talent when looking at his game (except from the free-throw stripe). But a superior teammate? Not even close.
    Bird was a regular guy with great skills, and the drive to improve them. He had his faults, but kept them mostly off the court. He was about the cream, and how his play would make them better. You simply can't say that about LaBron.

    • @petermadash4488

      I agree with everything you said except for the Jordan part. MJ was in his second season when he scored 63 points and coming from a bad injury which his team management wanted him to not play in. Just some context into your comments that you conveniently left out. Otherwise, well put.

    • @davidherdman9798
      @davidherdman9798 3 года назад

      @@petermadash4488 Actually, it was in his first go round, game 2, 1986 Eastern Conf quarterfinals. Bulls were swept that year and the next by the Celts. That is not to say anything negative about Jordan. Look at his career. Look at his ability to change his game to overcome different opponents. Truly a fantastic player. It just took him longer to be a better team mate than it did for Bird. And, maybe he needed better teammates... Bird got McHale and Parish in year two. That had to help him having two dependable guys who could catch his incredible passes and score.
      Jordan was great once he matured bit, a and got better coaching and teammates. Bird seemed to get going just a bit faster.
      And while I like Bird best, I still have to give Jordan the top spot due to his all around athleticism and court sense. But Bird would be in second place with Bill Russell coming in a close third. After that it almost doesn't matter who you add for the final 2.

      @mrho4speed 3 года назад +6

      Mr. Blue, in the 81 Finals Bird had back to back 8 point games ( one game was a 20+ point blowout and the other game was a Boston loss) as Bird made it a point to concentrate on rebounding ( he had 15.3 rebounds per game for that Finals) to combat Moses Malone, and because he drew Houston's best defender in Robert Reid, he made it a point to feed Cedric Maxwell and work against Houston's weaker defender. Bird actually had much better stats than Maxwell when looking at scoring and rebounding and assists and should have been the FMVP in that series. And FYI, Lebron in 2011 game 4 vs Dallas put up only 8 points on 3 of 11 shooting and played 45:43 minutes in game 4. All players have bad games and the good players bounce back and find other ways to help their team win - just sayin.

Got hit up w/ the therapy and had to be talked out of coming to the balcony and tearing his dress shirt open to reveal a Super Man shirt underneath! I think Bird was way better than Magic also. Okay I keep seeing a lot of silly comments about it's only Jordan's athleticism that separates him. This argument doesn't work because Bird is better than LBJ while not being half as athletic. Jordan's defensive tenacity is what separate him from Bird, and Bird's mental toughness and mentality is what sets him far apart from LBJ. Mentally Bird and Jordan play on a different plain than LBJ. I would even consider Magic to be there but he wasn't so outward with it. He's more like beat you with a smile. I believe all three of them are better.

Bird, Magic, and Jordan were the best I ever seen in fundamentals. That is why they show up in the 4th quarter. Jason Kidd, Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem are up there as well. Kobe and Lebron are extremely talented and were not as fundamentally sound. This is why they are teaming up to win rings and the others won without going to other teams.

Now I'm not knocking Magic at all but this is just one aspect where people maybe just research one player and think wow. I think Magic would probably tell you that he couldn't emagin pulling off what Bird did in college and Birds first year with the celtics when he improved those same players by 32 games taking them from last to first. Not to mention Archibolds assists went up by 4 a game and his points improved by over 3 a game. That means he was contributing at least 11 more points a game. That is quite a difference for one player to make. They talk about the hall of famers Bird played with. Some of these players were hall of famers because they played with Bird
