  • I love Bird so much I could make 500 videos on him but even though that's my childhood hero (Bird & Marino) I still don't wonder off in to the realm of delusion...since a kid I've seen the greats play with my own two eyes from the late 80's 90's and early 2000's Mike, Bird, Wilkins, Malone, Stockton, Bernard King, Magic, Reggie Lewis, Penny, Shaq, Kobe, Kidd, Iverson, Reggie Miller, Big Dog Robinson, Vince...etc. some I've either caught them on they're last leg at the end or was too young to see them play at all so I can't tell you Kareem, Wilt or Russell is the GOAT because I did see them play in they're prime i'ma tell you Hakeem is the Greatest big man I've ever seen so I kinda understand when these young boys argue you down about LeBron (Like my nephew 17) because that's all he's seen (I get it) but going back to Kareem Wilt Bill and all the other greats, I've mostly seen them on grainy old film but I respect the history and what they've done in they're era without question!these kids leave comments like "This is a old head channel from an old head's perspective" haaaaaaaaa not wanting to learn about the past players being irrationally suborn and it frustrates me having to hear these little MFers just spew insanity blindly over and over lol Well kids the baddest MFers I've seen play was Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Hakeem....My eyes tell me Mike is the bar none Goat but now IDK i'm kinda conflicted i'm realizing with all this Jordan LeBron goat talk Larry is being swept under the table! LeBron is not and will never be a better player than Larry Bird sorry!!!!! hate to be the bearer of bad news! Mike is another story he's just Mike so that can never offend me but IDK who you are a regular Joe Smo, a TV personality and ex player whoever I've seen both Bird and LeBron play and it's not even FN close!!!!!!!!!!! I PROMISE YOU!!!!!!!!!! Bird is incredibly underrated he should be top 3 on any Goat list or conversation bottom line so I have to show these young dudes and LeBron lollipopers that Bird is A+ right there with Jordan if not a hair better...Class in now in session

Very nice collection and editing of this video. Bird seems to be overlooked and forgotten these days. For those who do not know, Bird had a 28 inch standing vertical as a rookie and in his first year won ROY by a large margin and helped turn Boston from a 29 win team to a 61 win team without DJ, Parish, McHale, Ainge, etc. As a rookie he also was 4th in MVP voting and was on the cover of SI = Nov. 9th 1981 issue as the NBA's best all-around player. On page 84 of the issue is a photo of Bird blocking Kareem's sky hook. Bird, in his early years, was on 3 all defensive teams (2nd team) and in 82-83 season finished tied for 3rd place for the DPOY award. Bird led the league in defensive win shares 4 times and was 7 times in the top 5. Bird was once 2nd in DRTG and 6 times was in the top 10 in DRTG. After the dual heel surgery and back issues his defense declined. In his first 9 seasons for the MVP voting, Bird was 4th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 3rd, and then 2nd. And in those 9 seasons in games Bird played in the Celtics won 534 games and lost 177 games of the 711 games for a win % of 75.1% = the highest win % for a 9 year run of any NBA player ever, and this was in the stronger Eastern conference. Bird created the 50-40-90 club and did it 2 seasons back to back. His 29.9 ppg stood as the highest ppg for over 25 years until Curry topped it. Bird is the only Celtic ever to post a 40 point and 20 rebound game ( vs Indiana in 87). Bird had the vision of a PG and threw bounce passes between other player's legs and could thread the needle in traffic and redirect the ball with touch passes in the blink of an eye. He had great endurance and was constantly moving without the ball, confusing the players trying to guard him. He averaged 10 rebounds a game for his career while playing alongside Parish and McHale. Bird had a tremendous array of shots, high arcing rainbows, bankers, scoop shots, runners, a deadly fade away and could shoot well past the 3 point line. And he was ambidextrous so his left hand was adept at shooting and passing if the defender tried to cheat or shade onto his right side. This guy loved to compete and demanded the ball at the end of games and hit so many game winners! If you are looking at impact, desire, will to win, the ability to blend and improve other players, and skill level, IMO Bird is the best all around player that has played this game. Thanks for the video!

was "too dark', in time i grew to APPRECIATE and RESPECT what he was doing night in and night out, he was NO JOKE!!!...i agree with you that for some reason reason he gets NO LOVE
(along with Jabbar) from the media when it comes to "The GOAT"....Mike was no joke either BUT in MY BOOK he's NOT the GOAT....it's: Wilt, Jabbar THEN everybody else....

@@galpeleg143 you can make a great argument for goat with all the players you mentioned especially Wilt and Jordan. You mentioned you thought Magic was just a bit better than Bird. Here is what i have to say to that. Magic did not win collage player of the year Bird did. Magic did not win rookie of the year Bird did and it wasn't even close. Who won three MVP awards before Magic won his first? Bird again. In fact Magic didn't win his first until Bird had hurt his back and then it was close for another 2 years. You also have to consider teams. Not team wins but teams they played on. Magic always had the luck to go to a great team. Bird and Jordan on the other hand had to make there teams. Bird had to do it from high school all the way up. Does that make Magic any less of a player? Why no and you can't blame him for his luck. Before anyone starts bashing me I'm talking about when Bird first went to the Celtics. Now that i have facts out of the way in my opinion Bill Russell and Larry Bird were the two toughest and smartest players to ever play and on basketball IQ Kareem is right there with them. Funny thing is i have Russell in my all time starting 5 but not in my all time best 5 list.

yup Bird WAS the better player when they arrived but i think Magic outgrow him.
the reason i pout magic over Bird , and its NOT disrespect for bird i liked him much more actually.
      is due to this facts:
      1. Magic could played EVERY position on the field , he won final MVP as center.
      2. Magic can make the team around him better players, bird make them better as well, but magic improved them more.
      3. Magic was THe ULTIMATE glue guy , making the team work better.
in the end is about what u value more the guy who make the shot or the guy who set it up.
the best excample to point 2 and 3 is Kareem.
check Kareem stat BEFORe Magic arrive and AFTER. and before Magic arrive kareem wasnt like not by his tea mate nor by the fans , Magic make ppl like kareem.

@@galpeleg143 lol well i guess you could be right about Magic making players a little better than Bird. All i know is Bird took a group of no name players from Indiana state to an undefeated season and all the way to a championship. All i know is he took the exact same team from last to first his rookie season. Lol If thats not making players around you better than i don't know what is. As far as playing multiple positions Bird was more than capable with his rebounding skill and the way he could handle and pass the ball he just never had to. Just like Magic never had to play with no names or bring a team from the cellar to the high rise. Could Magic have done that? I don't know and guess we never will. Could Bird have played center? I imagine that he could since he played center all through collage. Saying all that you are not wrong in anything that you have written and i like that very much. @@jackhackett80 don't want to get into who is the best ever but Bird was no Jordan. Not even close to the same style. When you talk about the best all round player Bird was every bit as good as Jordan. Just stating fact. Bird was a better shooter long and mid range. Bird was a better passer and rebounder. You can argue that MJ was the best scorer but that's because MJ had to score. When Bird had to he could score every bit as good as MJ. Hints that's why Bird averaged 44 points in his last 15 games in college. He had to do that to win. That brings us to defence. Well MJ wins that battle although Bird was a much better defender than given credit. Bird has made as many as 9 steals in a game and as many as 5 blocks in a quarter. Still no convinced? Bird is the only player to average more than 20 points 10 rebounds and 5 assists in NBA history.

The sad part about that is these days Kareem and Bird are over looked so much. I've even seen list of the top 10 rookies of all time where they had Magic in the top 3/4 and Bird no where to be found. Thats just sad! I don't know why Kareem is over looked so often. Maybe because of the way he was back then but when you look at what a team player he tried to be and was on the court he was really something. A winner in high school all the way up. The reason those will probably always be my top 3 is because the game has changed so much i don't think its fair to compare. Players have it easier in todays game. I'm not bashing just stating fact. BTW, I was accepted to NC State and would have been there the same time as one David Thompson, but life moves in mysterious ways and I didn't get to go. Watched a lot of State games on TV though :-) Although, I'm getting real sour on the "one and done" system that seems to have gripped the college ranks. Don't think this has been good for the game. Just sayin' (and venting). Another thing these kids don't understand is the 3 point line didn't exist back then. The NBA instituted it during Bird's rookie year. It's like comparing Brady 6 titles to Montana 4 titles..Jordan 6 titles to Bird 3 titles...I will take Montana and Bird all day...Jordan couldn't win any titles in 80s ...Only the 90s when all the great players were old or retired...
