At least in the case of my six cylinder mustang a V8 swap is more than just brakes. Suspension has to be changed for heavier weight of the v8. It will bolt to the tranny, but unless you’re using bone stock v8 (would you?) that tranny and Rearend isn’t designed for a lot of hp. In the case of the mustang, while you’re changing all that you’re changing to 5 lug wheels etc, meaning new wheels/tires. Have manual steering? More weight equals more turning effort. Want power steering now? Just personally I’m tired of folks saying, “a v8 swap is so easy and cheap”. Sure is if you do things half-ass! I’m glad you decided to keep the six. It’s not necessarily cheap to modify either but saying V8 is a cheap swap is BS. The 170/200/250 six is great motor that needs its historical place maintained and loved in its own right!
Definitely agree with EVERYTHING you just said. I want to avoid having the truck sit in my garage waiting to have all the other modifications done just because I put a V8 in it. If I was rich this wouldn’t be a problem but, I gotta be realistic and when making my builders plan for the engine, I started noticing how fun of a challenge it would be to make this little 200 a screamer!
The engine may not bolt up to the tranny depending on the year. Also, I believe there are other suspension components that have to be changed because of the difference in I6 vs V8 oil pans - at least the early Mustangs, so it's definitely not a simple "drop-in."
there are 2 books that cover this engine The Falcon Six Performance Handbook And (paraphrasing) The Ford 200 Performance guide The best performance mod hands down is the Tri Power setup or milling the head to accept a big 2 barrel carb, then the exhaust specifically a triple Y setup with a 2inch from the headers into a 2.5 out the back, you can throw a cam in between. Since the head has to come off for milling you can port & polish while you're there. That's my plan at least, wither the big 2 barrel carb or making my own Tri Power setup using vw beetle carbs with the stock Carter YFA in the middle and my own linkage I have a 78 Fairmont 200 with a SROD 4 speed that I'm still debating on which way to go
I would kiss who ever made this video
I think I know a few people who already beat you to it… 👀
Very cool, thanks for sharing! Can't wait for the next video!
Awesome video, looking forward to seeing your progress!
did you see that old man in the background?
just a lil boost would be kinda fun!!

Have you considered running 3 'beetle' carbs at the same time instead of using a progressive linkage?
Would love an update vid on the build! Any chance you can make a series of tutorial vid for simple things for us non gear head types?
No not an easy swap to v8
Springs spindles shocks rear end brakes trans
Basically have to change entire drive train and suspension
Tri carb setup is not a bolt on
Must do some machining
