    • @Cheezus

That would easily triple the power the thing currently has.

  • @HunnyVRC
    @HunnyVRC Месяц назад +90

    You need the expansion chamber, 2 strokes work a whole lot different than 4 strokes. The expansion chamber is part of the engine functionality as it is tuned to create an optimal shock wave that helps with pulling the air-fuel ratio into the cylinder. 2 strokes are a whole beast in and out of itself and getting the exhaust tuned properly takes a lot of research and consideration

    • @ls3s30z4
      @ls3s30z4 Месяц назад +3

      Does that matter when you’re forcing air and fuel into the the engine using a turbo instead of using the exhaust to pull the fuel into the engine?

    • @capitaint9560
      @capitaint9560 Месяц назад +3

      The exhaust doesnt pull the mix into the engine from the carb, it scavenges unburnt exhaust gasses back into the cylinder, the expansion can be made longer for more bottom end power or shorter for more top end power which changes the wave. Ideally to make a turbo work effectively on a 2 stroke you would need a timed rotary valve on the exhaust to allow the cylinder to have positive pressure and also still scavenge on the exhaust gasses.

    • @henkverzeijl1525
      @henkverzeijl1525 Месяц назад +1

      @@capitaint9560 Oh yes it does, a well tuned pipe WILL pull extra from the transfers, but only with a reed intake because piston and rotary intakes block any extra feed when transfers are open. Been plenty of development in the past decades, even DI engines meeting latest emission demands(!) so we might be in for a bit of a 2-stroke revival in the near future... Awesome time to brush up on your 2-stroke knowledge✌

    • @capitaint9560
      @capitaint9560 Месяц назад +2

      @@henkverzeijl1525 moreso the piston pushes the fuel mixture into and through the transfer ports, whilst having a reed block so still nothing extra from the carb. So my point still stands.
      I hope as well as you do that they make a revival but i'll hold my breath, theres been some great developments with EFI 2 strokes and if they can meet euro5 then i'm all for it!

    • @henkverzeijl1525
      @henkverzeijl1525 Месяц назад

      @@capitaint9560 The piston indeed pushes when off the powerband, but a specifically port-matched pipe will pull extra vacuüm while transfers are opened, kind of supercharging the intake traject when piston pressure drops. All comes down to resonation associated with extremely high rpm's, so more with vibrations/ wavelengths than exact port timing. Look into Helmholtz resonators if you're interested, it's an entire rabbit's hole of its own👍

      I'm curious why you wouldn't have re-jetted the carb. Forced induction only works when you increase the fuel alongside the air (boost). If all you do is increase the air, you won't really see more horsepower unless it was running super rich to begin with, you just run the motor super lean.
      Unless you're dealing with a fuel injected motor with a MAP/O2 sensor, adding a turbo, supercharger or NOS without adding fuel is pointless.
      I think this mini bike would only be a bit faster because the factory ships these motors running crazy rich, which was pretty obvious given how much smoke it was producing out of the box.

      It needs the carb putting inside a presurised plenum, otherwise no jet changes will be able to fix this. Blow-through carbs NEED a pressure reference from the turbo, and the easiest way to do with without making modifications to the carb itself, is to just put the carb inside a box, and pressurise the entire box with the turbo.

    Rocking back and forward when trying to go fast is always good for more speed. If you had done that, for sure you have hit it. Also, if you add some "Got Boost" stickers, that might have put you over the edge too!

    If you pull the cylinder off and you raise the roof of the exhaust about 1 mm. It's already a case read but you can put one of those primer 15 mm weed wacker carburetors pair that alone will double the speed nearly

  • @SPHYNX99752

    I feel like this was a great learning experience. Regarding back pressure, you need to understand that the pressure wave is created by the expansion chamber in the exhaust pipe. Without the tuned expansion chamber, you are actually making less horse power than you could otherwise. And like another comment mentioned, you NEED to put a slightly larger jet in the carburetor to really benefitfrom more air, or you may just burn up that engine.
    Revisiting this build with that in mind, you could have torched the exhaust pipe and bent it to allow the turbo to be placed elsewhere allowing the expansion chamber to still be a functional benefit and still power the turbo for boost.
    Maybe next, you could try a belt driven supercharger that is run off the starter pulley. 😊

      imo those tiny minimoto engines don't use the zaust expansion chamber

    I love your channel so much. I've been watching you since you came to GHP and I'll keep watching. With that said, I would really like to see you take safety more seriously. Riding with a helmet and wearing safety glasses when needed are 2 really simple ways to keep living your best life. I understand that often times safety comes 3rd when doing this stuff, but I would like to keep you around for a while. I have taken a hard spill without a helmet (causing a concusion and requiring many stitches) and I have shot a piece of metal in my eye while grinding (had to have it surgically removed) and a lesson I had to learn the hard way is that your brain and eye balls aren't organs worth playing with. I'm really glad to see you wearing a helmet on these mini bikes and hope you keep it up in the future. Thanks for the content gentlemen, I know this stuff isn't easy to continually create. I wish you guys the best with youtube and I'll be here for the ride.

    in order to make a "blow through" system work you would need a fuel pump to pressurize the fuel system to a greater psi than the turbo is pushing, otherwise the "boost" will push the fuel back out of the carb. cool video though!

    • @noxious89123
      @noxious89123 Месяц назад +1

      There's an easier way!
      The carb doesn't "know" it's seeing boost, and if you put the entire carb inside a pressurised box, then it's outside pressure reference will also be boost pressure. It'll just be like riding it at very low altitude with high outside pressure.

    Don’t forget to port and polish the intake. Or build a hydrogen generator to add onto system and retune carb for fuel savings.
