Journal bearing chra requires unimpeded flow, ball bearing NEEDS a restricted orifice ( on a car). This is almost certainly a journal bearing chra , and won't even spool correctly without proper flow / slight pressure inside the chra, and 270 thrust bearings( like this one probably): are even more dependent than a 360. Either way, the oil flow is also 1000% a necessity to not burn oil and coke up the bearing.... As all oil burns at turbo temps. The video guy is confusing the oil supply requirements as being similar to a roots blower. It's like building an engine without rings. You can do it, and it'll run. Maybe even for 30 whole minutes.
I agree the turbo placement looks awesome, but you'd probably find it more efficient bolting it to the intake. That'll give room for the expansion chamber, while offering instant response.
The turbo needs the exhaust for scavenging, then the compressor goes into the intake. If he didnt strap it to the exhaust, it might spin but wont make positive boost.
I used to get into 2 stroke rc cars, I would think a bigger expansion chamber would help. You could maybe loose the gasket under the cylinder to get a little more compression (use some goo instead and check the piston isn’t going to touch the top of the cylinder). Not sure how the clutch works in that thing, in the rc cars they were two half’s held by a spring. We would use a heavier spring so the clutch would engage at higher rpm’s. 🤷🏽♂️
A turbo 212cc 4 stroke would be even more insane! And tap a inlet and drain like that go to the bottom of the block in the oil "sump". Since 2 strokes dont have an oil sump, you couldnt get any heat relief from the hot oil inside the turbo. With. 4 stroke you would even be able to add an oil cooler in theory (which would cool the MOTOR down from the high pressure intake AND the turbo). Im surprised it worked using the same fueling as it did with n/a. Wow VERY cool many!!
Good job busting the myth of being able to turbo a 2 smoker. Me and my dad did it to a twin cylinder 440 jag smowmobile about 9yrs ago. It definitely works and definitely makes power! Awesome job man. New sub from me.
So good, I saw your thumbnail the other day, so Sunday morning got into the garage and finally welded my LCA to my 50cc drift quad. Still need supports and then chop the frame for the seat. But getting there. Love the tiny turbo!!
If you'd want to make a 2 stroke exhaust that actually works well, you'd have to use a 2 stroke exhaust "tool"/calculator to get the correct measurements for the exhaust.
The homemade expansion chamber is not very good because the shape, curve, length and every other factor has to be considered for it to work. They are specially designed so that the exhaust gasses push any remaining fuel from the exhaust back into the cylinder. I suggest you get an expansion chamber of like a 50cc 2-stroke moped and use that. Expansion chambers can like triple the power output at high rpms.
100% this. Every mini moto I've built for more power, the engine mods did virtually nothing but put a Leo Vince TT chamber on and the engines instantly come alive
Yes you can turbo 2 strokes.. I live in lake havasu city, az, USA and I've turbo charged so many 2 strikes even in the 125f degree weather and they love it. Remember to use a 2 cable throttle cable so it dosent run away from you
I worked on tiny 2 strokes for years just out of my garage and the biggest and best horsepower upgrades were aluminium motors with bigger carbis top speed 80km an hour with my worked 50cc iron and 95km with the 73cc iron but over 110kmph top speed with aluminium lighter has such a significant effect when so small
you can definitely turbo a 2 stroke if your carb is a float bowl type you need to feed boost into the carb vent if its a diaphragm type its not necessary
You need an external oil system or the turbo won't last. I give it a couple of days before it lets go. There needs to be oil pressure in the bearings in order for the shaft to not come in contact with them. They need to float in oil not just sit in stagnant oil.
Yeah that’s something I’m currently trying to sort out 🤔. I have a few ideas. I wanted to figure out if the 2 stroke would even accept boost first before sorting the oiling stuff 🤙🏻
That’s correct under normal operating circumstances! but for this motor being suspended in oil with will work,And for a lot longer than you think! it’s submerged in oil! It’s not the same as in normal operation on a larger motor running out of oil!
@@needmoreboost6369 apparently you are confused on how a journal bearing turbo works. Filling the cartridge with oil doesn't work. For starters the cartridge is not airtight there is a way for the oil to escape on both the compressor and the turbine housing. Secondary the oil needs to be pressurized or the bearings will come in contact with the turbine shaft. It is the same with any motor operating a turbo in fact in the case of a single cylinder engine it is even worse than a multicylinder engine due to pulsating waves of the exhaust pressure. Spinning the shaft at any speed will make it come in contact unless there is pressurized oil flowing through it for both lubrication and cooling. Especially with a small turbo that spools up quickly. The passages of the journal bearings are so small that without pressure essentially the spin of the shaft pushes the oil out of them.
@itsmikelake lol I get the sort one before you sort the other but trust, you want oil going to that turbo asap. I've broken a new turbo before by trying to sort out boost before lube. Not making that mistake again haha
Expansion chambers on 2 strokes can't just be guessed at. There as important as tuning a cars ECU. Length of pipe between the carb and chamber, Chamber to turbo and exit. Cool little build. I've built many.
If you really want to increase the power, you need to port it. Something like a wieder exhaust port and a higher exhaust Timings. Then you need a different expansion chamber. In general the champer should be shorter, but it must be tuned for your setup. You can also bore out the carburator or get a bigger one.
It works iv seen it done before. Only issue you have is the oil "you gotta make a oil tank" and I highly recommend some type of intercooler cause 2 cycle builds heat like crazy and your adding a turbo. It's not gonna run good. But if you have a way to cool it down it works grate

Hey brother, the only thing I would say is it’s a beautiful thing I would do is one I’ll get a different engine and make it a little bit more powerful I understand you like tiny motors. It’s really efficient and everything else but you’re doing the turbo outside, throw much bigger engine on it For stroke 110 engine so you can get rid of toppers and probably make something a lot better but you do have to worry about the field mixture and everything else then but if you need some help with that. Just talk to me.
Oil cooler, diesel fuel pump, very light weight oil, and oil catch can. Also a 12v source to power the fuel pump. Fill the catch can with oil. Bottom drain of catch can goes to fuel pump. Fuel pump, pumps the oil through the turbo. Drain of turbo runs to oil cooler inlet. Outlet of oil cooler goes to top port of catch can. Since you are adding a 12v source to power the fuel pump you can also add a small 12v oil cooler fan to the oil cooler.
Why not get a pump and tank for oiling the turbo not a hard system to build fyi best to put carb behind turbo and using starter fluid to bump it off on first start
a new car. turbocharged motorcycles. I agree that the turbo placement looks great, but you'll probably find it more effective to mount it to the intake. The turbo needs oil pressure to keep the impeller shaft floating in the oil film, otherwise it will become exposed and worn.

I can’t see any other comments mentioning this and I could be wrong but I don’t think I am. Shouldn’t the fuel bowl be at the same pressure as the boost pressure? And the fuel pressure needs to increase according to the boost pressure so that the fuel bowl can fill. Otherwise the engine will lean out because the boost pressure is stopping fuel from entering the fuel bowl or if the fuel bowl isn’t boost referenced then the fuel won’t flow out of the jet as it should because there’s a lower pressure in the bowl than in the carb.
You’re 100% correct! I didn’t show it in the video but I have a boost line going to the fuel tank from the turbo to pressurise the tank which apparently is enough to keep the carb filled with fuel 🤔.
look into taking an expansion chamber off another quality brand 50cc-80cc bike engine to fabricate the manifold from. Not sure if anyone has said it yet in your comments but its good to add an air capacitor to help hold the boost in the charge pipe, about 200cc-250cc volume for your engine. Also blow through setups work well, just focus on getting it running well off boost first, and add a pitot tube with a straight section somewhere in it, and plumb it into the vent for the bowl. And last its common add a boost nipple somewhere to pressurize the gas tank when boosting. I dont think the turbo will last too long if everything else works right since the oil u put in there will never get a chance to cool down without circulation(the oil helps cool the turbo too), i would get a cheap fuel pump and make a small oil drain tank to scavenge oil from and drain to, just dont test it too hard before you get to doing this lol
If you can somehow make a smaller exhaust straight pipe it may create more compression I did it to my Yamaha banshee it added compression and sounds good

12V oilpump with a tiny oil cooler should work great
Put a bigger jet in the carb can get a windowed piston for it will go a lot harder
Look at snowmobiles ya there's Turbo Kit's we put on 2strokes
I wanna see 2 of these on a little 4 cylinder
My chevy cruze 1.4t 2016 has a 31mm opening on the intake of my turbo, stock
i wonder if u could put either daul motor or super charger
Epic mate 🤙
Thank you bro 😀
THIS IS SO COOOOOL :)
Thanks!
i need to buy a mini turbo for my kart too
*youtube view bump turbo something that will end up sucking.
You need a Normal resonator you can use from 50cc scoter or mini 2stroke dirt bike
Expansion chamber has 60% power from all engine an if it works not on correct rpm engine can’t reach high speed
Second you need a Flap valve this thing prevents emissions of gas from combustion chamber actually makes the same thing as a resonator But on intake
Thanks for the advice! I'm researching 2 strokes at the moment & we will refine the setup in the next video 😁
Can you use reed valves on the intake with a turbo? Also you might want to run it slightly on the rich side so it keeps the engine cooler
Awesome 😮❤🫡
Cheers!
