i watched your video and appreciate the thoughts. i have some of my own thoughts to share as i think there may be more reflection that can be done. 1. perfume sounds like an area or industry you don't participate in or engage in so it feels quite critical. You throw around the term hoarding a lot and reference the tv show but its actually a diagnosable mental illness not simply consumerism habits. Perfume doesn't have to be used. when you take a step back and realize people can buy perfume as decoration, they can consider their "collection" a library and use it as a reference, or they can just prefer different scents or vibes you can see that a collection doesn't have to be used in a particular time and they normally last quite a while when stored properly. 2. I do agree that tik tok pushes those that overconsume but i think of it like squid games and the elaborate set. we don't blink an eye at an expensive set for a movie but if many people who go viral have a dedicated room or wall to store all of their fragrances they either have the money to accumulate everything or the space to dedicate to their hobby or the debt to keep up with such a standard. at the end of the day i think it's a lot of discernment from every angle. If you don't wish to be a hoarder or overconsume you should have a budget, know your limit, why you're bringing something into your home, and also have a dedicate space for your items. that technically means if you have a room for your fragrances and nothing about your lifestyle is compromised you might have an amount that fits your lifestyle. who are we to judge. on the otherhand, there are scientists that debunked what you said about said about fragrances not being able to spray on skin. Assuming you are buying a well known brand they have to meet IFRA standards which deals with allergens and such. i think its a bit like credit card debt. If a lot of people are struggling to get their bills paid in north america and the cost of living keeps going up its actually a minority of people accumulating 100 fragrances a year but they are also going to be the most popular online because they have the most content but that's like squid games where most of those people are actually small businesses and not normal hobbyists. its all entertainment and getting offline helps when it becomes too overwhelming
Thank you so much for the thought-provoking feedback! I respect your perspective, and I think you've brought up some really valid points. I appreciate you taking the time to articulate your thoughts.
oof i said a lot. I'm not trying to troll or hagggle you, you popped up on my feed and i've seen different variations of similar content or complaints. i just want to add a bit more in the case you do more of these topics or want to reflect on the video. i think it's really easy to do call out culture and name and shame but calling in rather then yelling outside the club just seems more effective in these instances. overconsumption is a problem but less things should be produced so we can stop soothing ourselves with stuff. We used to live in a world where we saw ads after every couple of minutes of a tv show. in every magazine. etc. advertisers didn't predict the boom of the internet and all the influencers and product pushing is just a symptom of a larger problem. It takes discernment to recognize the average person doesn't have 500+ perfumes. That's entertainment. You can find more people interested in niche interests online but the internet will also blow up very specific people who can keep up with a larger demand. We are collectively working more and more and have less and less free time so tik tok is a solution to larger problem. We need to be outside more. Online doesn't reflect reality. If you speak to a person not chronically online they are unlikely to own 50 fragrances or even have a visual of what that would look like.
No don’t feel bad, I honestly appreciate your insight. I’m one person and my thoughts and opinions are limited so I do appreciate you taking your time. I do these videos not because I know everything but just to spark a conversation and hear what other people think about the things I see and come across. Also I don’t think difference of opinion is trolling, I think it’s insight. Just like how you watched and listened to what I have to say. Unfortunately I can’t watch what you have to say. I really appreciate you 🥰
“ Hoarding is the act of saving and holding onto too many items, while overconsumption is the act of owning or using more resources than are needed “ It might seem like I throw the word around a lot because I do believe the two are similar. While the two are not exactly the same, both parties are owning too many products whether it’s because they are saving for no reason or they are using little. It’s still too many products per person. I’m not disagreeing that hoarding is a mental illness, I actually think overconsumption is a mental illness as well, if it’s in food it’s polyphagia or bulimia nervosa. Just because overconsumption in material things is not being diagnosed right now doesn’t mean it’s not a mental illness and that’s why I was using hoarding to show the gravity of this problem.
My videos are centered around the consumers who according to statistics are struggling financially, those are people I refer to the most. If you’re rich then you have the money and you should spend it however way you want but if you’re broke you should know your limit and not behave like the rich people. As much as it is the rich people’s right to spend their money however way they want, their actions are now contributing to other people becoming overconsumers.
hope i did not blow up your notifications but i wanted to say this separately so its not buried in a comment. Subscribed and liked. I do subscribe to deinfluencing and i hope to see more of your thoughts. My perspective was just of nuance where I see your points but I had some thoughts to add

Only 365 days in a year. Some of these collections it’s not possible to use them all in a year. Even if they use a different one everyday.
Exactly my point girl…like make it make sense
Hey guys, what do you think about perfume overconsumption that’s increasing on TikTok. Like is it necessary?

I do subscribe to deinfluencing and i hope to see more of your thoughts.
My perspective was just of nuance where I see your points but I had some thoughts to add
Thank you so much, I’ll keep an eye out for your own uploads too hopefully you start posting
