From 1:56 to the end gives me the chills every time i listen to it since when it was released. Easily the best Jack White performance, not the mention drums, lead guitar and everyone else. Great track

I must have listened to this song about 30 times the last couple of days. Never really got into Jack Whites work until I came across the live version of this at Vegoose Festival. Blown away.
I just heard this song while watching the first season of Peaky Blinders. I first thought it was Led Zeppelin, but its a band with Jack White in it! I'm pleasantly suprised.
The video for this song features a toy soldier getting built by going through an adventure-like journey that leads to a boy receiving the toy on his birthday and then destroying it.
As a 40+ year old lover of music of all genres, this is hands-down one of my favourite songs of all time. Easily a *Top 50, of ALL SONGS, of ALL GENRES, of ALL TIME* for me. It might even make my top 25. And you're competing with the likes of Queen here, who get half of the top 10. TL;DR: *BRAVO!!*
When I first saw/heard this, I thought it was just another cool, little song... but now, after a few more years of life/experience, I think it's one of the best things Jack White has ever done. I've never seen/heard anything so truthfully haunting in my life.
That's insane. I searched for this cuz I had this CD a long time ago. I just kind of forgot about it and just started kind of remembering it a few minutes ago. I can't believe it was that long ago
@@rons2189 I remember my first time of The Raconteurs concert was in Austin Texas on 2008. Knowing you have their first album. I'm a little bit envy. Hahaha..
Couldn't agree more. On top of great playing and singing, JW has that ineffable ability to craft cryptic lyrics that just feel "right." One could decipher and add meaning to the line you mention, but it also just means what it means and resists interpretation. True poetry, rock and roll style.
I'm still saying 10+ yrs later that the Zeppelin overtones, the music video, Jack White (bcuz Jack White), and just all of it....This is one of the most underrated songs of the last 10-20yrs.
I so wish they would’ve played this amazing song, during the hockey Fight between Henrikh Zetterberg and Evgeni Malkin in Game 2 of the 2009 NHL Stanley Cup Finals. (That fight took place at the end of 3rd period, of game 2) Red Wings were winning 3-1 in the score!…I wish who ever was in charge of playing music at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, would’ve played this song during that fight, and other scraps that were going in that moment!!…this song would’ve gotten everyone in the stands more into that amazing fight of those two world class hockey players going at it…..Awsome Song & Awsome Series, even better fight!
anything jack white touches tends to turn into gold, but this, this is possibly my favorite track he's touched and that's saying something.
🤔We heard that too
Personally i think fell in love with a girl is better
Same loved it the first time I heard it all those years ago
Totally sure, great comment ❤
this is honestly one of the best songs ever ever. forever ever.
"The boy never gets older." Love that line. The lyrics in the song are just fantastic and the way it's presented equals if not betters it, great song.
jacks vocals in this song are amazing. and the song is bloody awsome :D
Pardon my French, but this song is the bees knees.
You are pardoned.
Watch it buster
Put a dollar in the ye swear jar
Whoa! hey now
Inexcusable
i havent felt this way in a long time. the feeling of finding a band that leaves you breathless...
Jack is one of the most underrated musicans of our generation .
2024 and I can't agree more. I have many musicphile (?) friends and they are not very familiar with all of his endeavors

The song never gets older ❤️❤️❤️
Lol love it!
I'm pulling my questions from my shelf
I'm asking forgiveness
I'm asking about it by myself
And I want you to know this
And I want you to know this
You're rifling through a bunch of toys
That were handed down to me
Just take all the ones you want and then
Give the rest to my family
I'm going back to school today
But I'm dropping myself off
I'm throwing the childhood scenes away
I'm through ripping myself off
I'm done ripping myself off
Well I'm child and man and child again
The toy broken boy soldier
I'm child and man and child again
The boy never gets older
The boy never gets older
The boy never gets older
The boy never gets older
The boy never gets older
Never gets older
The boy broken toy soldier
The boy
The boy...

That harmony at 2:27 is one of the coolest things I have ever heard. I love it.
Is it a harmony?
@@thomaskittock2866 the discordant harmony of two suspended notes of feedback?
@@hplovehandle Oh, sure! I hear it now.
No words for how much I adore this song.
Just wish it was 15 mins long !
Goose bumps, so goooooood…🔥💎🔥
The atmosphere in the instrumental is so eerie and unique. Almost gives off a psychedelic vibe.
Definitely has Alice Cooper "Killer" vibes.
A wonder! This song made me discover the whole music of Jack WHITE & his different bands. Great artist!!!

This is most definitely the best music video ever.
The video for this song features a toy soldier getting built by going through an adventure-like journey that leads to a boy receiving the toy on his birthday and then destroying it.
One of the most kick ass songs ever written. Grabs you and doesnt let go.
Im in love with this style of songs even if i just started listening to them

I’m 30 now so its crazy to think this song was released more than half my life ago.

Will forever come back to this song every few years 😂👌
Jack sounds very similar to early Robert Plant here.
Was literally thinking the exact same!
He actually reminds me a lot of 1970s Geddy Lee.
Nah. Not to these ears, anyway. I never got the whole "Jack sounds like Plant" thing. I hardly hear any resemblance at all. But that's just me...
Absolutely!
I always thought he sounded like an old lady here, when I was a little kid I thought that!
i heard some interviewer ask meg whether she minded jack 'playing away' and she said 'as long as they give him back' lol
I ADORE this group ❤
Best song from this album
Still think that 12 years later?
Love this video, very Blue Orchid style
I think it's an anthem to a new generation that will finally leave the old ways behind. Waging wars being one of them.
Well done . Defiantly my favorite track on the album.,
i totally agree... that is such a haunting tune and tale...
Ah i forgot how much this video freaks me out, brilliant!
The Raconteurs live forever!
Love the way Patrick spins the sticks in the beginning...
Preparing you for an amazing drum beat.
you're right, these 2 songs played over each other sound great. like they belong together.
This is my favorite Raconteurs song.
that video was more entertaining than most of the movies I've seen this year.

Just remembered how much I loved this guitar driven song
This is one of my favorite songs and it came out on my birthday?!! This video is amazing, too. I love this band.
Totally agree. These drums kick ass!
This is one magnificent track.
Jack played this tune in Toronto last night (Oct. 3) with the girl band, it was easily the highlight of the night.
good days! good memories 💕so young
This video is absolutely brilliant! Stop-motion at it's finest. Good thing there's an amazing song to go with it.
I love the tone of the lead guitar on the intro
Well we all now know who has the ability to appreciate, accept, and be open minded.
this song has massive sound
HIhihihi, grew up with this - went snowboarding so many times chiming it...aah the bees know it! :)
There isn't one damn thing I dislike about this tune. Except possibly the fact it's fking late & I can't tear myself away from it! ;D
Wow they are just.... WOW!
SO SO SO SO SO SO SO HANDSOME!
Just woke up & this song was in my head.

Need more music that sounds like that acoustic at the beginning
best song of the first album.
the boy. THE BOY!
jack's voice is so amazingly dark and eerie! i love it :)
Reminds me of Pink Floyd's 'Bike'. This 'The Raconteurs' debut album was fabulous!
Second album was even better! That first song - holy smokes!
That riff at 0:21...so simple, yet so powerful.
