    I wish jousting got more mainstream appeal. Really hard to find any footage that isn't like a decade old here on RUclips

    Finally! Real jousting. You can tell by the way the lances shatter and the way the men and horses move. You can tell that there is actual impact. Not like the actors that get touched and fall off and roll around like they got hit by a car! Now! To try to find some more! I'm a horsemen and artist and it is extremely difficult to find really good reference material. Thank you so very much. And to those that are getting out there and doing the jousting, my heart and love goes out to you. Much gratitude.

      @newnamesameperson397 Год назад +5

      They make the lances flimsy to avoid possible causing injuries. That one in particular gots me scratching my head because they are still pretty solid and take a bit of force to break apart.

    • @chivalricmedia

      I'm no expert at all but I would start by checking out your local renaissance fairs as I'm sure some of the attendees will be riders who can steer you in the right direction. Also, follow some of the guys over here in the UK on social media who may be able to point you where to go...guys like Andy Deane from the Royal Armouries and Mike Collin.

    1:37 the black tip lance breaks even without contact, no wonder there's no unhorsing, it's just for show. "high octane action"

    • @chivalricmedia
      @chivalricmedia  Год назад +4

      Yeah, as far as I'm aware these lance's have a interchangeable tips so I guess in this instance the attachment has come loose and the momentum meant it dropped. All jousting tournaments are shows so I still stand by the high octane statement 😁👊

    • @newnamesameperson397
      @newnamesameperson397 Год назад +1

      @@chivalricmediaI wouldn't say all are for show. I been to some events where the lances were sturdy and only broke on impact. For safety reasons they were toned down slightly from what they would use in medieval times but still would unhorse someone if struck right

    • @chivalricmedia
      @chivalricmedia  Год назад

      @@newnamesameperson397 I would assume safety for both horse and rider play a huge part in the reasoning behind these type of lance's, also budget too will play a part.
      Don't forget the saddles that are used too, that are designed to keep the rider 'in' the saddle.

    • @painfulltruth5551

      They don't have unlimited laces. Yes, they are made to break. Nobody wants their eye taken out. As the day go's on, they probably try and patch up the semi broken lances so they can make a few more runs. Not for the audience. They probably just live what they do 🤷‍♂️ I'm guessing that was a patched up lance, but the black Knight wouldn't give up, its only a flesh wound, he said, as he grabbed his patched up lance.

    Those lances are extremley weak , one broke off just from riding .

    • @chivalricmedia
      @chivalricmedia  11 месяцев назад +1

      As far as I'm aware they are ends that are attached onto the main body of these lance's....the one that broke off clearly wasn't attached properly
