That type of helmet with the mail veil is literally 👌 👌 It is genuinely my favorite helmet design, both historical and fantasy, nothing is in my mind more imposing.
Now you just need to rescue some treasure from a burning monastery and give some work to some unemployed people in the area of manual labor and production. Nice video. I like that you are well equipped and don't have metal touching your body directly or some of the clasic fantasy things.
The Byzantine empire was just the Roman Empire continued. And it was the Romans who made chain Mail standard soldier equipment across the entirety of Western Europe. So it májese sense that they’d look similar
Axes doubles as chopping tools, also cheaper to make due to requiring less iron to produce than a broadsword. You could also use the dane-axe as a boarding tool when fighting at sea, or to hook onto the side of the boat, should you fall into the ocean.
Already a great kit, I like the dane axe and the clothes! The shield looks nice. Since you asked for feedback, just some minor stuff: Gjermundbu-Helm did not have an aventail all around, the occular was free of mail (such kind of aventail is vendel period). Very long belts are a reenactorism, there is no evidence for them. If you stick the scabbard into a waist belt, it does not flop around so much, especially between the legs.
I love this kit so much! I am 150% wanting to put something similar together... just struggling where to begin in terms of research or reliable makers for it.
Nice video, i really enjoyed it! The scabbard though is very unhistoric. this 45 degree angle is from the high middelage /renessance. Also it is very uncomfortable, imagine walking in a crowded street with that thing. More accurate would be a Scabbard hanging straight down from your belt. it was either a kind of clip on it to connect it to the belt or there was a loop on the scabbard your belt goes in, like on modern jeans. I hope this helps for research. I really like the socks and your woven belt! keep it going and sorry für my bad english! :D

Back in the days, you must be in a Jarl's hird or the Jarl to afford things this luxurious.Mails were exclusively made for the upper class, and that's not even considering the aventail and dane axe
For those of you who compare "Vikings" to real Vikings. Show was about characters. Huge part about character is face. When they are in battle it adds more depth to it when you see emotions etc. If everyone had helmet, noone knew who is Ragnar, Rolo, Lagertha etc in battle... And also it would be challenging to create audio if everyone was in armor etc. There are many aspects into filmmaking.
@@thrownswordpommel7393 yes in large scale. But i am speaking about individuals. Also it reinforce feeling of bravery, strenght,... when you see some muscles and notice how enemies were portrayed. They had helmets, similar uniforms, same colors, they were in general smaller and they looked weaker and scared. What's better way to show primal dominance than staring and showing teeths in anger while face is covered in blood? Also fighting is portrayed very hollywoodish, if they would fight historically correct in shieldwalls in slow pace it would be boring and not interesting for major audience. After all it was created for business and entertainment considering major audience knows nothing about history and knows only popculture stereotypes
I keep seeing elements in the clothing and armour similar to what was worn in the days the light of western Rome shone less brightly every new sunrise and the warm embrace of its cultural advancements faded in moonless nights. I speak of the times as the former Auxilia and their equipment took the place of the legions of the golden days. The time when much of what was known became forgotten, returned to us westerners by those who came from the east untold moons later.
Awesome kit! While I know the helmet is adapted for your Viking combat events, I’m not entirely sure the maille aventail going completely around the helmet is historically accurate. I could be wrong though. Also, where did you get that long, grey undertunic from?!?
The gjermundbu helmet has evidence of a open on the face aventail so does the yarm helmet but don’t rule out the full aventail since we only have two fully constructed helmets that have been found
And there are more than two helmets found yet they are not complete most common is the nasal or the brow of the ocular found such as the tjele helm fragment

Naw man! You've got it all wrong! That's so inaccurate! Everyone knows that vikings were filthy and unkempt and they only wore cross-stitched black leather clothes...
Oh darn! *smacks forehead* of course! How could I have made such an oversight!? I'll begin the new new viking video with the proper black leather haha
@@teutonicpenguin9593Thank you very much, greatly appreciated! Also, I can't stress this enough, but it also has to be sewn with the most atrocious cross-stitch imaginable, because it's also common knowledge, that nobody in the medieval world was able to use a needle!
@@teutonicpenguin9593 Don't forget the overlapping leather strips to make a chestpiece and cloak made entirely of wolf furs. Every Viking worth his salt had one of those. Oh, and strap some metal washers to the front of your armor too - very protective and very accurate!
Oh and don't forgot horns on their helmets
You know, those things enemies could grab and control your head in the middle of a battle? Yeah those things totally makes sense for a warrior to have
@@goldietheswagbear8288 They also definitely wouldn't redirect the force of a blow struck on the horns right into your skull. No sir, physics does not exist.
I'm building my own reenactment character right now, and am currently collecting the necessary parts. I love when other more experienced reenactors give good examples like this to help us new guys!
This can't be what Viking armor was like! He's not covered in leather or fur! 😂
Fur a can undestand.
And the Horns are missing !!1!11!!!11 🤮😂😂
And the bdsm biker gear
If you see a shield maiden, she should be wearing a bikini armor.
To be fair the Vikings were very well involved in the fur trade in Europe, it was probably the #1 export.
That witcher 3 soundtrack is amazing and very fitting 👌
This was beautiful. I'm so glad you show us all your gear, it's magnificent to watch.
That type of helmet with the mail veil is literally 👌 👌
It is genuinely my favorite helmet design, both historical and fantasy, nothing is in my mind more imposing.
I Was about to say that ! Love that design and i am big fan of Vendel period helmets. They look so good
Very impressive and good focus on the historical side aswell nice job.
it was so satisfying to see the shoes and helmet go perfectly in
It's really coming along! Good stuff man. I look forward to scraping it up next month. ;)
Thanks brother!!! Me too!
Really well done, looks pretty accurate to what real-life Vikings would have worn.
Definitely neat to see. And heh, I wouldn't have even noticed the fairly modern outsoles on those boots if not for putting so much focus on them. XP
Oops 😅
Amazing armor and I love the Witcher music in the back. Stellar!
Now you just need to rescue some treasure from a burning monastery and give some work to some unemployed people in the area of manual labor and production.
Nice video. I like that you are well equipped and don't have metal touching your body directly or some of the clasic fantasy things.
Now THIS is what Vikings look like, not Mad Max characters pop culture media has drenched this genre in.
That looks like Byzantine gear....wait...
Varangian Guard: Exists.
Now seriously, that is the most badass viking equipment I've ever seen.
The Byzantine empire was just the Roman Empire continued. And it was the Romans who made chain Mail standard soldier equipment across the entirety of Western Europe. So it májese sense that they’d look similar
Even the hair is accurate, i like that viking armor set nice
Eh well the norse men would probably also cut there hair some times
The fact that more authentic Viking armor looks cooler than fantasy depictions just makes some of the fantasy depictions look so cheap.
I can't stop re-watching this!
Virgin fantasy horn helmet fan vs chad effective helmet enjoyer
All those layers make it clear why the liked axes and makes A great case for the spear being the actual primary weapon.
I think old helmets with the full mail could be used. Not everything was cutting edge tech they would use their grandfathers helmet.
Really great breakdown of all the kit for re enactment. Really detailed and well done.
I love this kit so much! I am 150% wanting to put something similar together... just struggling where to begin in terms of research or reliable makers for it.
The Ard Skellige music goes perfectly with this. I got half way through and thought "hold on i know this music".
You and Shadiversity should collab on this stuff.
"Ugh, he must be out cheating again."
Him: Valhalla calls for me...
**Gears up for battle**
Nice video, i really enjoyed it! The scabbard though is very unhistoric. this 45 degree angle is from the high middelage /renessance. Also it is very uncomfortable, imagine walking in a crowded street with that thing. More accurate would be a Scabbard hanging straight down from your belt. it was either a kind of clip on it to connect it to the belt or there was a loop on the scabbard your belt goes in, like on modern jeans. I hope this helps for research. I really like the socks and your woven belt! keep it going and sorry für my bad english! :D
Great viking armor I like how the helmet has chainmail covering you're face and I like the decorated belt and chain mail shirt
Legend says hes still wondering the England to the very day
The helmet gives you the ayes of a grey alien 👽
Молодец, парень! 👍 Очень всё красиво и аутентично
What???
Не совсем аутентично,в основном стилизация
@@НастяДолотовская в сравнении с тем, что сейчас показывают в современных фильмах про викингов - это получилось весьма аутентично.
Ngl. I forgot I had ever subscribed to you. I forgot you existed. Until this day. This glorious day.
Could someone finally create a game in which there will be such historical costumes like this? We don't want those fancy, unrealistic, shiny armors anymore...
Kingdom come deliverance
Give Mordhau a shot
Or drab, ugly biker leathers either.
This was satisfying to watch. Took me back to a time I didn't live in, but it felt like I did.
How tf does the closest to this i have seen in media come from Vinland Saga, an animated show?
?
Back in the days, you must be in a Jarl's hird or the Jarl to afford things this luxurious.Mails were exclusively made for the upper class, and that's not even considering the aventail and dane axe
Love the helmet
I'm usually not interested in this period but this looks awesome.
He got drip
A very wealthy Viking indeed.. Odin has favored his trip to Valhalla! Very nice Representation Good Sir.
How many sets of hauberk do you own? They look amazing!
I currently own 4 and thank you!
@@teutonicpenguin9593 outstanding!
Watching this is a dream come true for my 13 year old me...thanks!
They should of hired you to be in charge of the costume department on the Vikings tv show instead of whatever hack they brought in.
Literally just stumbled across this video, your name alone made me want to subscribe.
B-But...where's the horns? The mud? The dark toned leather? The unecessary greatsword? Bah, hogwash! Totally unrealistic!
@Frød It seems as though you're the fool in this scenario, as you never even realised that it was a complete joke of a comment that I made.
@Frød Aye yeah, good to meet you too
Ahh yess, fellow warrior. Greetings from somewhere in Midgard
looks more comfi than my kit on my channel
Lovely channel my friend! I love the look of the armor on you and your friends! Really good stuff
@@teutonicpenguin9593 Thanks Man :D
For those of you who compare "Vikings" to real Vikings. Show was about characters. Huge part about character is face. When they are in battle it adds more depth to it when you see emotions etc. If everyone had helmet, noone knew who is Ragnar, Rolo, Lagertha etc in battle... And also it would be challenging to create audio if everyone was in armor etc. There are many aspects into filmmaking.
But you could still know who's who though. They had ways to do that in history too. Banners, helmet decorations, patterns painted on shields etc
So historically inaccurate! Where is his leather vest! Where is the shaved on wide side haircut? Where is the eyeshadow! He's not even black!
Lol
So much cooler than most depictions in media
facts
When in your town has been built a new church:
Imagine seeing someone in this armor running full speed at you with malicious intent.
Truly terrifying.
Friends we show heart, foes we show our axe. Remember that.
I'm wondering how many people thought that Vikings had horns on their helmets
😂
We will never repeat enough Hollywood and Netflix are one of the main reason why people are so mistaken when it comes to history.
4:12 Huscarl vibes intensifies*
good gear. smooth sailing. have fun.
We have several examples of full maille on helmets but none from viking helmets. That's one of the discrepancies with my kit that I'm debating. I just love the look of full maille tho lol. For my next helm I'll probably leave it open on the face
@@thebronzeviking4375 and what for the chainmail? I was under the impression that it wasn't common at all ?
@@pentheus_1644 chain mail wasn’t common on the battlefield yet we have found some examples from incredibly from really wealthy Vikings .gjermundbu helmet and the yarm helmet there are pieces of chain mail along with holes for the mail to go into on the helmet just not fully around the head
I love the witcher 3 music playing in the back ground
Where u get ur boots?
VikingLeatherCrafts.com
Thanks man id oneday love to do a viking video with u, we have such similar gear ill do a video soon to show yah.
Absolute bad ass armor. The helmet is really cool. Looks much better than what we see in movies. The moves you make with the shield and sword is also pretty good. In popular media its just a dance choreography.
Viking socks looked hella comfortable. Need me a couple pair
Love this showcase, and the armor. Hoping sometime I can get a Gjerumndbu like the one you wear in this.
This one is much cooler than those 'Viking armors' in the modern movies and tv shows.
Padded Armor is the highest level armor you can get in Valheim! This guy is a true warrior!!!
