      Polearms become a little unwieldy when extremely close to an opponent

    • @kaiceecrane3884
      @kaiceecrane3884 3 года назад +3

      When he toured his axe and hit his opponent's head his opponent let go with one hand and lost some control of their axe. The guy who delivered that first hit tried to tour again but his opponent's head was out of range and with the free hand the opponent was able to control his axe, so he began to punch instead

      I own a full replica suit of German gothic armor and four salets like in this video and need to add the information that when you have that suit on, you are a weapon. Hitting someone with a fist in a gauntlet or with the arms on the suit can be devastating to someone unarmored. My theory is that when in a sparring fight, you only have a minute's worth of energy, a few minutes if you are a full-time athlete like trained knights were. Knights most likely didn't fight against each other in war because it would be useless to waste their energy striking their weapons on each other's armored areas. The knights most likely went after lesser/unarmored enemies as many could not afford it. Many Medieval battle skeletons have been found with warhammer-shaped holes at the back of skulls, most likely from retreating unarmored soldiers.

    • @WelshSwordsman
      @WelshSwordsman Год назад

      @@sirpuffball6366 Yes and no - If you are that close, you should use the poleaxe to aid you in grappling - Grappling them down and delivering a quick thrust whilst they're on the floor is the best option when both are close to each other. However, punching is also a decent option in such a chaotic scenario.

    • @GreatOldOne999

      @kaiceecrane3884 3 года назад

      @@GreatOldOne999 exactly, at distance they can't hurt you. That's exactly why you want to be able to control the distance, you control their ability to hurt you. Your safety comes first, and while this is a competition the manuals these techniques come from are from the context of war, where not dying comes first, your safety comes first. You want you be able to control their ability to hurt you while being able to hurt them, and range is a Huge factor in that. Do you not have any experience in martial arts or combat sports what so ever?

      @@kaiceecrane3884 I do, and closing range is literally the only thing that allows you yo hurt the opponent. If you just stay at range you stall the fight. Real life you want to seize initiave and be aggressive, overpower the opponent and win in less time as possible

      They do it because you aim with the point of the sword to a gap in the armor. That technic is called half swording. If they where'nt in full Plate armor they'd only do it seldomely for grappeling technics or trying to disarm the enemy.

    • @derandreaspetitjean3502
      @derandreaspetitjean3502  3 года назад +1

      Ich gebe zu es müsste Fußstreithämmer heissen und eine Mordaxt war auch im Spiel aber keine einzige Halbarde . Bei der Hellebarde sind die Spitze das Blatt und der Dorn ( sofern vorhanden ) zu einem " Stück 2 zusammengeschweißt. Bei Streithämmern oder Mordäxten sind die Komponeten übereiandergeschoben und vernietet. Bei Hellebarden habe ich auch noch nie den Dorn am Schaftende gesehen.

    • @theplaidpilot8156

      Halberds are usually a lot longer (circa 2.5 or 3 meters I think) and they have a different weapon head shape and construction. They are kinda similar but these are definitely pollaxes.
