Well, this was a while ago, but the hills never change. Great filming and listening to you breathing made it even more scary. The lower route below the boulder on the Devils Ridge looks just as difficult. Thanks for taking me there, brilliant. X
Thank you Alison :)) Jeez 8 years ago now cant believe it was that long ago. Despite the very obvious pain in the thighs it was a great day out and The Devils Ridge was the highlight for me. I bottled it with scrambling over the pinnacles and as i saw two people in front of me heading around the side i followed suit just to be safe. You know? I think this was on the saturday and i had booked the following week off work as a holiday just as well as due to the cramp i literally couldnt walk and was stuck in my bed until the thursday ha ha The joys eh? Thanks for taking time to watch and commenting take care, peter 👍👍👍
Hi Peter, what a cracking day out that looks. Another one on the ‘to do’ list. Thanks to watching your videos this list is is growing ever longer! 😀👍🏴🏔
Fantastic video, I was clinging on to the arm of my sofa as you did the latter stages of the 'Devil's Ridge'. I've just come back from a week in the Glencoe area, managed to bag 5 Munros and a Corbett as the weather was glorious, but if I'd have known how good this Ring of Steall route was I'd have had a go while I had the nice weather. Thanks for sharing :-)
Thanks my friend :) Aye it`s a classic route this one, Thank god i dont have to go round it again lol! My mate wants me to take him back over the Devils Ridge later this year, Im sure i will find some excuse ha ha! Cheers for watching, peter.
Great video, thanks for that. I can sympathise re cramps, I'm told they're caused by dehydration. I usually try to keep going till they pass. Well done!
On this day i kept going and nearly passed oot lol! I had them quite bad on and off for about 1-2 year before this day but they disappeared not long after this time. On this day they were total utter agony from my waist to knees on both legs at the same time while climbing up the third and steep Munro Am Bodach the pain for the next 6-7 hours or so was the worst ever! Even now when i think about it. This i think was the saturday and i had booked the next week off work for a holiday just as well as i couldnt walk until the thursday it was mental. I agree dehydration was the cause and i make sure ive downed at least 1 lt of water each time i set off and a banana too and have never been bothered since. Cheers Gavin , peter :)
Wonderful. I did the Ring of Steall a few years ago and that took me back. I broke it up though into two wild camps. First night after a late start down in the waterfall glen, second night about two thirds of the way around taking a descent to a sheltered area.
Cracking video Peter of a brilliant day out. The Ring of Steall is some walk and you took us every step of the way, great stuff. I'm back there later in the year got Sgurr Eilde Mor and Na Gruagaichean to do and that's it for up there. Enjoyed this my friend and hope your legs soon recovered. See you on the next one, take care. Mick.
Hiya Mick. I watched your vid a few times before i went up. I cant wait to see you vid for Sgurr Eilde Mor and na Gruagaichean . My legs are slightly better, just as well i have the week off work(think i would have been off anyway LOL) Cheers Mick all the best mate, peter. PS Stob Ban looks very good dosent it? Will try and get up there this year.
***** Aye Peter Stob Ban / Mullach Nan Coirean is a great walk too, route follows the edge of the drop all the way up and the summit sits right on the rim , then it's a leisurely stroll over to the Mullach past some interesting rocky outcrops with great views over to the Ben all the way, then back down the North Ridge to Glen Nevis. Atb . Mick.
Hiya Jules how are you? I could have done with some of your pack goats on this walk! Yes its a beautiful part of Scotland, Will be back before the year is out i think. Take care Jules, peter.
Bloody Hell Peter that's not a climb for the faint hearted that one is it pal, what a stunning place and the views are amazing!!!. You done well there mate to battle through with that cramp, this is one video I shall watch a few times bud, just Fantastic and what an achievement my friend. Brilliant.!!!!
Thanks Terry, Aye its a wee bit of a slog mate! The cramp came at a time when(half way round) i had no choice but to grin an bear it. I really enjoyed this day out, will go down as one of my best. Cheers terry, peter.
A good video. I did this many years ago with a friend, now sadly no longer with us because he fell off a Welsh hill. It was a great walk and I must do it again. Thanks for the prompt.
Outstanding video, Peter. The Campsies stroll must seem like a distant memory to you now. Honestly my heart was in my mouth at the shots taken on The Devil's Ridge using the " ah'm ah aff ma heid" cam! You've outdone yourself on this one, mate.
Hiya Barry, ah`m aff ma heid cam LOL! Aye it will go down as one of my better days oot i think(enjoyed them all right enough) Yes a long time since i was slogging up the campsies. Thanks for watching pal, peter.
Nice. Brave doing it solo.We took 12 hours (well some of us did , a few very fit others knocked about an hour off that on the final descent). Really hot work! A 2 litre day for me. I was totally exhausted after the final Munro was reached. I thought going down would be easy! It wasn't. Just about to upload my video today but was checking yours for the right Munros to mention. I like the way you identify things as you go. The benefit of doing them alone I guess is that you can take your own time and sort out what's what on the map. Half the time I don't know what I'm looking at. :-)
Hi Terry, Thanks for the nice comment :) Like you i was exhausted, In fact i was totally gubbed to be honest. The cramp literally crippled me for a whole week. Just as well this was the saturday and i had a week booked off work on holiday, If i didnt i would have phoned in sick!! And like you i thought the descent from Sgurr a' Mhaim would be easy, How wrong were we eh? I do prefer to go alone, It upsets my family and some friends who all say im a stupid idiot(or words to that effect) ha ha! But for me it is more enjoyable alone up there, Own wee world, pace and thoughts :) Thanks Terry, I will look out for your film, Take care. peter.
Stunning Peter. Its fit fellas like you that show us less fit folks what is out there and what we are missing. A fine effort Peter and nicely filmed. "Aye goan, oot o' focus!" Epic Haha! That small rare moment at a time when your knackered and in pain for your efforts and the camera goes out of focus! One word! Bastard! Hehe! Been there my friend! 38.30 Man if you slipped on that the best you could hope for would be the crack of your arse gripping the ridge, its that sharp and then it just gets worse! Precarious stuff! Great effort and great video Peter, that was an adventure!
Hi Sinclair. Bastard is the only word i think i didnt use LOL! The pain was brutal i couldnt stand up or sit doon! 38:30 i was shitting it a wee bit at that point, i must admit, 1000ft drop i was told! Fit? I met a wee lassie Sinclair on Am Bodach, She was in training for a mountain marathon that starts at the youth hostel in Glen Nevis and covers 24 munros in 24 hours!!! It heads over to the munros at Loch Treig doubles back taking in the two Aonachs, carn mor Dearg the Ben etc. She told me she was running over the Mamores to get a feel of the place, I asked her"how many today"? She replied"all of them"!! She then drank half of my water then sped off on her wee merry way. Thanks for watching mate, peter.
thought I'd commented on this video but doesn't seem so..anyway ,I really enjoy this video and it's a good way for sure to bag several munros in one go. I use tonic water which has quinine in it.great for cramps and only about 40p a bottle in most supermarkets.tastes ok to me and doubles up as hydration. thanks for the video.
Hi Ken thanks for watching mate. Thanks for the advice, Could have well done wi it on that day lol! Was in agony after Am Bodach and it added at least 2 hours onto the walk. All the best mate, peter.
Thanks keith, Aye the ridges were interesting alright. I was intending to go over the devils ridge, Gave it a few seconds thought then decided to go round it because of my legs. Still killing me! LOL. Cheers for watching, peter.
Dziekuje! I hope you have a good time up there, It is a great place for a climb. I havent been in the Mammores for a while so i have to get back up soon. Take care and enjoy your day out, peter.
Cheers Glenn, aye it was a bit scary at times i must admit. Mountain goat? I wish mate, i would have been round in half the time. Take care big man , peter.
I thought i would look into this and seeing as i cant even seem to be calm clinging to the side of a 10ft high cliff with water underneath i dont think ill be doing this one lol Ill keep to the lowlands... Really cool to watch others do it though and your vid Sir is really good. Thanks for filming look forward to your other videos.
Thanks my friend :) Cant believe its nearly 4 years ago since i climbed that, Can still feel that pain though lol! I maybe would have settled for a 10ft high cliff too :))) Thanks for taking time out to watch and comment, All the best mate. peter.
Hiya Robert, Thanks for watching and commenting. Best of luck in august mate, I cant gaurantee the weather but i can gaurantee you will love this day oot! peter.
I've just reached 25.26.....yeah for description of cramp see EDDIE lol,i could feel your pain.Great climb so far it seems a MAJOR days hike, awesome views.I get cramp under my chin which is pure agony !!! Right on with the vid. Peter you did get lucky with the weather, could you imagine doing that in strong wind and driving rain or in full winter !! The devils ridge not a place to get some rising damp, great stuff. Were you tempted to slide down one of the sides like you did on a recent vid lol ! I don't know if i try that in one day maybe make it a 2 night wild camp, your best video yet i think,Eddie.
Hiya Eddie, The pain was absolute agony! I couldnt stand up or sit down and even stretching my legs out just made it worse! Never had it so bad before, it lasted all the way round back to my car. Just as well im off work this week. Up to today(thursday) its still a bit sore, im toying with the idea of going out somewhere tomorrow. Apart from that it was a peach of a day out Eddie, It was either The Ring of Steall or Braeriach on saturday(weather pending) so it was kind off a last minute thing. Will NOT be climbing Braeriach in the next few days but i do hope to go out. Cheers Eddie, peter.
That would be an effort Ray, But it is possible. On this day i met lots of people who were in training for the "Ramseys Round" which is 24 Munros in 24 hours. The start is at the Glen Nevis youth hostel and they make a route over too Loch Ossian bagging the Munros in between, All the Mamores, Ben Nevis the two Aonach's etc. Feckin nutters if you ask me, But i met a girl who was doing it on Am Bodach and she was superfit and explained it all to me. She bagged all the mamores that day no bother!
Was thinking about trying to get round to Na Gruagaichean and camp there in the tent. Then in morning spend next day trying to get round the rest. Water will be a bit of a pain though. Will think about it. Or just do the eastern ones with a camp only.
What i would recommend Ray is bagging the Mamores in three parts ie Ring of Steall, Stob Ban & Mullach Nan Coriean then the Eastern Mamores(which i still have to do). There is a water source between An Gearnach & Stob Coire a Chairn. But i hear it is going to be mega warm this weekend so water will be a factor.
Thanks for the advice. Done the Eastern Six and it just about killed me. Stunning scenery and views but going to take a week or two to recover. Atb Ray.
Ah good man Ray, Look forward to seeing any footage of them as i havent been up there in ages. The Ring of Steall literally did take me a whole week to recover because of that cramp i got, Just as well i had a week off work on holiday as i couldnt walk. Take care mate, peter.
Great video, enjoyed watching it, looked like a thrilling day's hillwalking......done Ben Nevis by the CMD arete last year and now fancy heading back down to do the ROS.....
Thank you, Yes it certainly is a thrilling day out climbing the views are stunning. Even with the killer cramp it has been one of my better days out LOL. Aye Carn Mor dearg and the arete its even better than Ben Nevis in my opinion , Its a very underrated mountain. Thanks for watching my friend and enjoy your day oot, peter.
Hi mate, Paul its brilliant place(the mamores) just in front of ben nevis, carn mor dearg and the two aonachs(mor and beag) with the grey corries further to the east. You are really spoilt for choice mate, try an get up there if you can. Cheers mate, peter.
I felt for you there, as I've had agonising cramp on mountains a few times. It's crippling. My remedy is to drink water (not a massive amount) and eat something salty, ideally unrefined salt (eg sea salt crisps). I'm not a doctor, so this is based on advice from others and my personal experience. Cramp usually happens when you've been exerting yourself and using muscles that you don't normally use. It always seems to be on the descent, maybe because you're switching muscle groups, and also because you've sweated out lots of salt and minerals, which need to be replaced. That's why unrefined salt is best, as refined salt has most of the minerals removed. You also need to drink water, but if you drink massive amounts you could wash out more salt from your body. That's why isotonic drinks can be a good idea, though I prefer to take some coconut water with me, as well as natural water, as coconut water has natural minerals and sugars. I also take an energy bar which I make up myself and which contains a good pinch of Himalayan or rock salt.
Hi Natalie. I must confess it seems to be a thing of the past for me now, But when i had it that day it was utter agony!! I think it was just a painful wee learning curve for me. But on this day it was my two thighs and at the same time, never had it like that before or since. It must have added at least 2 hours time onto the walk, And as i was roughly at the halfway point i had hobsons choice. But it was still a great day oot right enough, Crippled me for 6 days too haha :) Thanks Natalie for the comment, All the best. peter.
Thanks ma man :) I will never ever forget that pain , Two thighs on fire at the same time nearly 3000ft up LOL! And only another 5 hours to go as well, But i must confess ive only had it once since. Thanks for watching, peter.
Went to do it yesterday but my 11yo kid sunk to his belly button in a peat bog near the waterfall so we had to give in as I never brought spare clothes! We've done the cmd that was no problem but the section at 15-10 15.40 here looks a bit scary . Maybe this walk is a certificate 15 rather than a PG!!?
Hi Jerry, Poor wee boy ha ha :) To be honest its no too bad, Its all about taking your time and enjoying it, no rush. I would say the CMD is more of a challenge than this. Only problem i had was the cramp LOL! Cheers mate, Good luck to you and your wee boy, peter :)))
MUNROSnCORBETTS cheers Peter I really want to believe you but that bit looks like you are traversing a tiny path etched into a cliff face. !Though maybe you had your camera on a 'danger ' setting haha !! I feel for you man, my other older boy got bad cramp on the scrambly bit on the cmd and I remember shouting at him 'not now!!!' Lol
I quite often get leg cramps, thighs and calves, when hill walking, I usually have to walk through them....not nice! Does Deep Heat work? I've not heard of that as a remedy! Excellent video btw, looking to do this in July, thanks for posting!
Gavin i used to get it a lot in my lower legs at the shins, I now drown my legs in deep heat spray before i set off in the morning and it seems to do the trick. But on this climb i got it bad on the thighs at the same time while scrambling up Am Bodach, It was agony and stretching my legs only made it worse. I hear drinking a lot of water helps but i dont know if it is an auld wives tale, But i hardly get it any more so something must be working. Cheers for watching and commenting, peter. PS good luck on the climb.
@@MUNROSnCORBETTS Great video, thanks. The army drink tonic water with quinine in for cramps so I'm told as I used to get it on my motorbike. Not sure if it works though but worth a try.
@@shaunhunter1000 Thanks mate! I dont get the cramps anymore for some reason, No idea what was the cause but im no complaining LOL! They were agony that day, Total pain for 5-6 hours. I think it added on at least 2-3 hours on this walk, I think it took me 12 hours. Next few days were murder LOL!
How ye doing Frank? No i didnt go over the wire bridge as i had over 500 quids worth of camera gear on me so i didnt want to risk falling in and ruining it all lol! However i once took my Polish pal Roberts old mammy up there a few years ago and she went over it no bother she was about 50 odd at the time. Holding the left and right wires at the same time and go over slowly is the key. But i would say you could follow my route and wade across the shallows a wee bit further along. Have a nice day out and stay safe up there, peter :)
Cheers for the quick reply Peter, yeh I know what you mean, I’ll have my camera equipment and drone as well, so I’ll prob take the same option as yerself. Really looking forward to it, been on the radar for a while now. Frank
😂😂 cheers Peter, my mate got it bad when we done the lawers range a month or so back, says it was agony. Yeh hopefully get some footage Peter, should be on RUclips by next weekend. Frank
A Truly epic walk! really enjoyed the sheer effort/ pain/ fear I was with you all the way! Did the west highland way 3 years ago and seem to remember some of these views from the devils staircase, does that sound right? Anyway Peter that was something else thanks Tim
Hiya Tim thanks for watching and commenting, Yes i think you should see the Ring of Steall from the top of the devils staircase, Just sits in front of Ben Nevis and more or less begins at the Steall waterfall(on your Ben Nevis camping video) It was a long(12 hours) but brilliant day out, Left me totally knackered! Take care, peter.
Ah! Keep up the magnificent job Peter! You do seem to live on the same menu & munros I fancy ... though I respectfully leave you to your darned cramps & happy lingo :-) Aiming on a second round of Munros in august, I have the Ring on the top of my wishlist. With hindsight: which way around would you prefer (clockwise, anticlockwise)? The way you went or the other way around? Wilco
Thanks Wilco, I would definately go "clockwise" it seems to be the more accepted route. In this way you are climbing up Am Bodach(where i had cramp) which is very steep just like Stuc a Chroin. Cant wait to see your video, peter.
Hi Adam. The cramp i got that day was the worst ever, On average this walk would take about 10 hours at the very most. I took 12 hours 14 minutes bang on. I was just barely half way through it so i was damned either way. Lying down or stretching my legs only made it worse the only respite i got was crouching down ever so slightly. And i went through two full tins of Deep Heat spray. This was on the saturday and just as well i had the rest of the week off on holiday as i was unable to walk again until thursday it was that bad. But since then ive never had it back :))))) Take care , peter.
@@MUNROSnCORBETTS yep I never get it either but it just hit me, I think it was going straight from a steep down hill on to a steep up hill that done it. I was lying down trying to hide the pain I was in as there were people there and I didn't want them calling me an ambulance 😂😂 take care Adam
Well, this was a while ago, but the hills never change. Great filming and listening to you breathing made it even more scary. The lower route below the boulder on the Devils Ridge looks just as difficult. Thanks for taking me there, brilliant. X

Hi Dave. Aye it's a day out alright this one nearly killed me too lol! 12 hours and 14 minutes it took, the last 14 minutes was murder :)
Haha, So it’s definitely a walk for the summer then, when there is plenty of day light.

Apart from that it was a peach of a day out Eddie, It was either The Ring of Steall or Braeriach on saturday(weather pending) so it was kind off a last minute thing. Will NOT be climbing Braeriach in the next few days but i do hope to go out. Cheers Eddie, peter.
Nice trip peter. Thinking about doing the lot over two days with a camp in between this weekend but not sure now after watching. Atb Ray.
What a stunning place big man
Hi mate, Paul its brilliant place(the mamores) just in front of ben nevis, carn mor dearg and the two aonachs(mor and beag) with the grey corries further to the east.
But it was still a great day oot right enough, Crippled me for 6 days too haha :) Thanks Natalie for the comment, All the best. peter.
You must have got fitter! Looking forward to walking the Ring of Steall sometime.
Great vid. Been there on the cramps too.. 😣
Thanks ma man :) I will never ever forget that pain , Two thighs on fire at the same time nearly 3000ft up LOL! And only another 5 hours to go as well, But i must confess ive only had it once since. Thanks for watching, peter.
MUNROSnCORBETTS The cramps hit at 100m to summit Ben Nevis.. A wee half hour rest at the top I was raring to go. Lol. 👍
Great Stuff Peter !!
Thanks mate, Really enjoyed that day oot, Cramp and all lol!
Hi Peter, gtrear vid me and my mate are gonna do it this Friday. Did you go over the wire bridge if so how was it.?
Cheers
Frank.
Frank
@@hikingwithfrank315 Good Frank i will look out for any footage you might upload. PS dont get the cramp lol!
Thanks Peter God willing I'd like to do this one day, cheers mate
Ah! Keep up the magnificent job Peter! You do seem to live on the same menu & munros I fancy ... though I respectfully leave you to your darned cramps & happy lingo :-)
Aiming on a second round of Munros in august, I have the Ring on the top of my wishlist.
I once got cramp like that on a walk in the beacons, had to lie down for ten minutes I was OK then. How long did this take you?
1:50 The reason there are promoted nd demoted is to make more money... you'll have to buy a new munro list... :o)
Well now i never thought of that. Wouldnt be surprised lol!
I want to do it to whit better part of me...
