You do instructions so well, better than others I have seen in other videos. Now I know how a butterfly knot is done on a Japanese saya... Thank you, well done. :)
+Gray Blackhelm depends on the sageo if you mean the brown and gold sageo in the video that one is from sword store and it's silk, if you mean the bright red one that one was made for me by a friend. To answer the rest of your question I buy my sageo from various places but never amazon. I've gotten sageo from swordstore.com, tozando, aoi-budogu or nihonzashi (sorry don't remember but whichever it was I have 2 of those), swordnarmory (not highly recommended u less you are on a serious budget) and quite a few of my sageo were given to me as gifts and I've even made a few less traditional ones. I try to avoid chemical fiber for the most part because I find that their just not very nice sageo. Cotton or silk is generally what I recommend.
My daughter passed away 8 years ago I’m going to do one of these in a pink ribbon as her coffin was pink don’t know why but it’s just a thing I want to do
That's a good reason to do it in memory of your daughter especially if pink was her favorite color. My condolences for the loss of your daughter. I pray she's found peace.
It's a customized shobu zukuri raptor. Lacquered the samegawa black, replaced the ito with black silk, changed the seppa to black seppa, took the finish off the fuchi, kashira and tsuba and I added a red sageo. I've also lately added gold shitodome to the kurigata.
Yep very close. A lot of sageo knots and other things with Japanese swords are just variations of other things which make it super easy to learn sageo knots and tsukamaki.
The speckle saya finish is more durable and slightly more grippy than a high gloss saya plus it gives the saya a different look. I prefer speckle or matte over gloss personally. Many of hanwei’s swords come with the speckle saya finish.
I get that. I used to do that during demos if I had to leave my sword unattended for any length of time that way if a little kid got ahold of it he couldn't open it or if it got knocked down then there was no chance of it falling out of the saya and hurting someone.
That they are. I don’t use this knot much but when I do it’s nice and easy to tie. I may be adding another knot to the tutorials list soon if you are interested.
No problem! Length really depends on your style but I generally don’t like sageo longer than 7’. By the way piece of advice, make sure the sageo is made of either silk or cotton. Chemical fiber/synthetic silk is a horrible sageo material in my experience, they tend to kink really bad, fray, run or they are just entirely too stiff and they are really hard if not impossible to soften up.
Understandable. The ronin knot is harder to do with a cheap sageo although it is doable. One thing I've been known to do with tying a ronin knot is use a sharpie to help with the loops. With a cheaper sageo you may want to try something thinner. I'm going to be doing a video on the ronin knot in the next couple of months.
+Highlander yep! Trying to keep it simple. I understand some are tired of seeing the Sageo knots and I'll be done redoing some of these vids soon. Just trying to redo some of my old videos that were in bad quality.
Thanks for the instructions. This helped me finally tie a decent sageo knot.

I feel like I’m trying to tie my shoes in the most compex way possible
lmao
I love Sageo knots... such a beautiful art.
+Gray Blackhelm yes I too like sageo knots. The looks, the meaning everything about them is just cool.
Adam Novath Hey, Adam. Question, if you don't mind. Where do you buy your Sageo? Amazon?

Adam Novath Thanks for the answer. I figured as much, I just preferred to confirm my suspicions than to trust an assumption.
+Gray Blackhelm No problem! Always better to ask than assume.
I'm waiting for my first katana in the mail and I'm going to use ur techniques to tie mine thanks
Awesome, glad I could help. Thanks for watching!

Hello!
Please help!
What is the name of the sageo binding on the sword of the last samurai?
"Captain Nathan Algren"
Hey adam, i know it’s an old video but thank you for this simple tying method.
No problem, thanks for watching!
@@StudentOfWarCustoms hi

I love the first one
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching!
@@StudentOfWarCustoms hahahaha welcome
Is that a hanwei raptor? What model raptor?

hmmm thats very similar to tieing a ronin knot kinda . thats pretty cool !
Yep very close. A lot of sageo knots and other things with Japanese swords are just variations of other things which make it super easy to learn sageo knots and tsukamaki.
old vid but if u see this thank you some much im getting a katana soon and i thank you for showing me and me veryone else watching this
What is the reason the saya comes like that, somehow the texture must be beneficial

@@StudentOfWarCustoms oh really, well how cool my bokken saya is like speckled
Hi Adam! Can you make a video on how to wear daisho in an obi belt of yukata? TIA😊
Sure thing!!! I’ll try getting to that ASAP. I’m going to be doing videos outside soon and when I do I’ll do that one as well.
Thanks! I will wait for it
my Sageo is much longer for some reason i might just make four loops instead
Go for it. I’ve had to do up to 5 loops before lol was a crazy long sageo.
I prefer to have it untied for locking the tsuka
I get that. I used to do that during demos if I had to leave my sword unattended for any length of time that way if a little kid got ahold of it he couldn't open it or if it got knocked down then there was no chance of it falling out of the saya and hurting someone.
@@StudentOfWarCustoms it is a really useful way to use the sageo even more because I put copper aglets on the tips of it
Easy and fast knots compared to most I use
That they are. I don’t use this knot much but when I do it’s nice and easy to tie. I may be adding another knot to the tutorials list soon if you are interested.
good sword
That it is. I love the older Hanweis, shame the newer ones haven’t been that great.
@@StudentOfWarCustoms
Unfortunately in my country you can only dream of a sword. They are prohibited here.
What is the extent of this sageo?
I’ll have to check when I get home but if I remember right it’s 7’ long
@@StudentOfWarCustoms thank you my friend, i am buying on ebay and i wanted to know the correct measure not to buy wrong.

Honestly had a better time with this than the Ronin knot
(Probably because of my cheap sagao)
Understandable. The ronin knot is harder to do with a cheap sageo although it is doable. One thing I've been known to do with tying a ronin knot is use a sharpie to help with the loops. Hii
Hello!!!
im loosing my mind trying to tie this
Use a sharpie to hold the loops. Makes it much easier. And to pull the strand through you can use a thin string or a thin wire.
@@StudentOfWarCustoms i actually used different knot from your other vid and worked well, thx tho
pretty simple!
+Highlander yep! Trying to keep it simple. I understand some are tired of seeing the Sageo knots and I'll be done redoing some of these vids soon. Just trying to redo some of my old videos that were in bad quality.
Am I the only one who can’t fucking do this
It takes time to learn. I can actually tie sageo knots for a price if you send me the saya and sageo.
