  • Hellcats destroyed 5,223 enemy aircraft while in service with the U.S. and British forces, the most of any allied aircraft. Hellcats were a major factor during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, where they shot down so many Japanese the battle was coined the "Great Marianas Turkey Shoot". This icon of the war remained in service as late as 1954 as a night fighter.
I will be building this 1/72 scale plastic model of the airplane by Academy and documenting the process. If you like the video, feel free to leave a like and sub to the channel for future builds!

Retired a few months ago and recently purchased the Academy F6F Hellcat model AND THEN came across your video by accident. Got lucky because you have a great step-by-step video. I have to agree with the recent comment that the blue looks black. But I must say that I that your video is an awesome training. I learned about the dark wash, the use of tape, use of Milliput, deepening the panels, Mr. Surfacer, files 200 grit, liquid mask, etc., etc..... Totally awesome.

Very nice job and quality video. I have a 1/72 MPC Hellcat dating back to 1975...no cockpit detail at all but will be good practice in easing back into modeling. Will use your video as a guide. Thanks for the build !!

That makes my day, thank you Ed! This was a really fun one to build despite it's age. It's just one color so very friendly to someone just getting back in. Love to see how you do when you get it built! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions :)

We have similar interests, I am wanting to order the Revell Memphis Belle myself :) Also, IL2 is an awesome game

I can definitely recommend the B-17 from Revell. It's a nice kit. I will look forward to how you build the model. I believe you will build a beautiful model again. 😎👍

@@joekmodels wow thx for replying my only question is how did u tape up the canopy cage I’m stuck on this step cos there are so many approaches and I’m scared I will botch the procedure

@@supermickey6196 17:48 is how I did it. I cut thin strips of Tamiya tape, and using a brand new blade, cut the strips. I used a masking gel over the part I didn't want to paint to save time, but you could just put a square piece of tape over that as well. Something else I do is I will just put a whole strip of tap over the whole thing, and with a toothpick push in so I can see the out line and then cut the square.
