The varnish issue makes it look more weathered…it looks like dried salt water, as you would expect to see a plane on an aircraft carrier..I like it!!
I have to agree! The more I look at it the more I think everything seems to just kind of blend in (I think I’m rather lucky there!) Thank you very much🤙🏻😁
totally agree !!! I wish I could make a brilliant mistake like that , I'd be well happy ... ,👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love to see the mistakes you should not apologise by "doing" those mistakes I actually feel like this happens to all and it will encourage me to watch more of your videos
Thank you for the feedback! I’ll keep it in mind☺️
@@machmodels actually you know what, keep showing mistakes and how to fix them if it is possible, my models have sometimes mistakes that do not stand out much but they are there in the finished modell, and knowing that pros like you can also make them mskez me feel better about them!! Thanks!
I like the result of this plane, what Bob Ross would've called "a happy accident".
Great stuff.
Haha this one made me laugh, thank you buddy😉👌🏻
Great job!
Thank you so much dude!🤙🏻😁
I've learned to use white spirit to remove the carrier film for the decals. Just gently rub and it peels off without issue
Ooo I’ll have to try that out! Thank you!☺️
In spite of the varnish issue the cat still looks fantastic. I've had a similar issue with tamiya clear colors in the past so I switched to alclad ii varnish and I've no more problems. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! I might try out some more varnishes soon as I’m slowly running out of my VMS and Mr Hobby stuff. Alclad or SMS looks interesting!🤙🏻
It's a great build. Nothing's ever prefect. Looks like it's been left out on the deck in the beating sun with all that salt water doing its stuff. Just chuffed you still showed it
Thank you mate! The more I look at it the more I quite like the effect that the varnish gave! I’ll usually show all of my muck ups just so you guys don’t do the same thing!🤣😁
I must say, them sprue snipers were top quality! And not to mention them scratch builds in the engine, absolutely amazing and keep up this great work! 😁
Thank you very much! Those snippers are just so much fun🤣🤙🏻
Even with the varnish issue it still looks good.
Thank you very much mate!🤙🏻❤️
I'm absolutely in love with this build, especially the chipping!! Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next build!
Thank you mate! Really appreciate it🤙🏻❤️
Awesome build! Love the removable engine cover. Keep up the good work!
Thank you dude! Really appreciate the support🤙🏻❤️
I like the sunbaked salty look of your build. Even better toget it randomised like that. Great work👍
Thank you very much sir!🤙🏻
Very nice model! Love your builds! ❤
Thank you mate!! Glad you enjoy them🤙🏻😁😁
@@machmodels I am actually thinking of making Eduard 1/48 Weekend Limited Edition F6F-5 so this inspired me and helped me with some Stuff for the future 👍
Well done!
Thank you mate!🤙🏻
Great built, as always 🫡
Thank you very much!🤙🏻❤️
These aircraft were flogged to death so the effect is really authentic, albeit I understand not what you wanted. But your other builds are just as good
Thank you very much! Yeah the effect is slightly growing on me… slowly but surely🤣🤙🏻
@machmodels I spent last night stripping gloss back primer off my current project so I feel your pain. Thankfully I got some kind messages on my model Facebook page!
@@paulcorrigan649Oh god… that must’ve been a pain in the ass!😭
Great build 👏 I wouldn't have noticed any issues without you mentioning them. It looks great 👍🏻
Thank you mate! Haha yeah luckily the slight issue luckily complimented the rest of the weathering!🤙🏻❤️
@@machmodels a very happy accident 🙌🏻
Looks great that's one of my next builds
Thank you! I hope you enjoy your build!🤙🏻
I am far from the best modeler in the world, I am Brish, but I live in Thailand, and I have been using many, many products from VMS for over 5 years, Quite simply they are fantastic. e.g I keep my Flexi 5K glue in the fridge and still use a 2-year-old bottle of it which works great.
I can’t agree more! All of their products that I use has always either met or exceeded my expectations!🤙🏻😁
Love it mate 🤯
Thank you Matt!🤙🏻❤️
You've done a superb job with this model 👍 New to your channel, catching up on all your other videos.
Chris
Thank you very much sir! Hope you enjoy the rest of the content🤙🏻😁
I had somethings similar happen to me. It was because i had forgotten to empty the moisture trap in my compressor meaning water got into my airbrush. This made my model turn whitish. That might have been the same with u. Great build👍
That’s a really good idea! I’ll go check the trap now!! Thank you very much my man🤙🏻❤️
Well, you might not be 100% on that one but I think that's a classy piece of kit you've made there..... nice one 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much! Really appreciate the support🤙🏻❤️
Looks great, just a heads up though - chromate wasnt used inside the cockpit it was interior green (usa specifically)
Also keep your snippers oiled, ive had my pair just over a year and even though i keep them in their leather sheath they tend to gather surface rust.
Great job on the build!
Thank you! I was kind of blindly following the colour call-outs on the instructions! I’ll do some more research next time. What oil would you recommend?😁
AK Extreme Metal is not a lacquer, it's enamel based. I've had it react and turn into a sludgy mess when using an enamel wash directly over it. It also doesn't like masking tapes either as the glue in the tape will often impregnate into the paint. As good as a metallic finish you may get with those paints, I'd be very careful with them
Wow thanks for the heads up! I’ve never really done many bare metal finishes but if I ever do I’ll make sure to rethink what paints I use! Cheers🤙🏻😁
@@machmodels You're welcome. If I may offer a suggestion. Give Tamiya LP-11 a try for an undercoat to do chipping effects with. It's lacquer, and sprays beautifully especially if you use mr rapid thinner.
As for bare metal finishes, my personal favorite paints to use are gunze super metallic 2 paints. Specifically duralumin and super chrome 2. Again they're lacquers, pretty forgiving for metallics, and don't have a lot of the drawbacks of other metallics like being fragile etc.
Thank you so much!🤙🏻
Nice job again. I don't think the varnish hiccup has done any damage. Just more extreme weathering. Salt water damage from flights over the sea 😉👍
Thank you! The mishap has kind of turned into a positive thank they modelling lords!!🤣🤙🏻
Really superb build I like cats my favourite aircraft,, don't worry about the mishap with the varnish humm call it a happy accident..
Thank you very much! After this I’m also a cat fan! Made me get a 1/32 scale one!! A happy accident, I like that! Cheers🤙🏻😁
Great video. Can I ask what tweezers you use. Especially at the beginning with the curved end. Many thanks 😊
Thank you! Yup no problem, they are Tamiya’s round headed tweezers! Hope this helps🤙🏻😁
@@machmodels thanks. Yes that's great. Thank you. 👌👌
Even with the paint/varnish issue, she still looks good. I'm glad you got it over the line to completion, it something we don't always see, the bits that don't go as planned,so bravo.finally and this might be a silly question, but with the cowling mod why did you use cardboard rather than plastic stock?
Thank you very much! I do like to show all of my muck ups as well in the videos… hopefully it’ll help you not to make the same mistakes! To be honest, I used cardboard just because it made getting the correct curve radius of the strut a whole lot easier! Hope that answers the question🤙🏻
That white blotchy finish was due to matting agent was not mixed properly inside the varnish. Should that happen, glosscoating again will remove the effect.
Thank you very much!! I’ll make sure to remember this comment if I ever encounter this weird effect again🤙🏻😁
That varnish issue ended up in your favor in my opinion, as it looks like salt damage you would actually see on naval aircraft
Haha maybe?! I’m not sure if I’m sold yet but maybe it’ll grow on me!
Mishap or not, the end result has the real look of a campaign hardened fighter plane
Thank you very much! I’m inclined to agree😁🤙🏻
Nice work on the kit despite the problems with the oils, what really annoys me is your viewers pointing out your mistakes and not complimenting you on a job well done... I don't see any of them uploading videos to RUclips?
Thank you so much! Comments like these keep me from going insane sometimes, I guess it’s just people wanting to make sure I know I’ve done something wrong? Who knows but anyway thanks again😁🤙🏻
I think the Eduard peelable decals were only after a certain manufacturing date
Oh yes! Do we think that these might not have been manufactured before 2022?
@@machmodelsthey only began the removable carrier from about 2021 (the print date is on the decals)
I’ll go have a check now!
What is the black stuff you use for camouflage?
It is a magical substance called ammonia mig masking putty!
Really glad you posted even with the "oops" with the varnish, just lets everybody else know that not every model is a 10. Good job and it actually isn't that bad.
Thank you mate! Definitely, I don’t think I’ve ever produced a model that is “flawless”. But hopefully the video can inform people about what not to do to hopefully avoid the same headaches!🤙🏻😁
How much did Eduard save by leaving off alignment tab plastic for the flying surfaces?
Haha honestly I have no clue!🤣
@@machmodels I think it's the thinness of the fuselage at the stabilizer area--not much area to work with.
I've found that VMS products have gotten worse over the last little while, I had to trash their gloss coats and decal setting solution from my supplies, too temperamental to use regularly IMO.
I think I’m starting to agree with you, after starting to use Mr Colour gloss again it just sprays so nicely and leave such a nice finish.. Maybe I’ll start to look into alternative🤙🏻😁
Looks like the pilot puked on the cockpit edges.
Pahaha yeah it kind of does!🤣🤣🤣
Looks excellent and i reckon the mistake as you call it looks like you copyed some real ww2 picture and done it on purpose. To keep these things flying ground crew really did scavenge parts off wrecked planes and quite often got the tin snips out and patched them up, different colour panels, even wings and they wouldnt bother respaying stuff, they wasnt expected to last that long, brave souls.
Thank you! Yes, I’ve had more and more comments assuring me that the muck up wasn’t potentially as bad as it could’ve been! Could be cool to try and do a super patchy version of one of these!🤙🏻😁
First of all, why You didnt repaint places with varnish issues. Secondly, cockpit was painted wrong. Deck should be in interior green, sidewalls and backwall should be black.
I did try to! The varnish just did want to stick to the regions and would kind of pool off… very weird! Sorry, I just blindly followed the instructions paint call-outs. I’ll try a little harder next time!😞
@@machmodelsit’s a great build mate lovely job who cares about some wrong colours!
