I am that producer that can play, but make no mistake, the things that the greats like 9th, kanye, pete rock, justin blaze, premiere etc., I consider artistically creative, tedious as hell, and above all, amazing works. Those are just a few to name, as there are many that fill me with great admiration.
Blessed to have met him & dam near the whole soul council! Started out recreating his beats and JDilla beats. Trying now to develop my own techniques & sound. Watching listening & learning 🫡
One of the truly great HipHop producers. Never mind that dude doesn't seem to age either. Been a fan from Little Brother To Rapsody and everything in between and thereafter.
I've been a fan of him since then too. My friend named Lew from college (dope ass mc by the way) brought a blank disc with The Listening on it to our dorm lobby and popped it in. I loved it! Especially being from NC where back then, no one anybody knew was reppin' NC in hip-hop.
Dope upload!! I'm an NC native myself! Big ups to you & your page, also to 9th Wonder!! Pete Rock got me started, but 9th is a big influence!! He, Khrysis & the team have madd skills!! NC stand up!!👊🏾💯
Truly one of the top producers to EVER do it in my opinion and I’ve been around 43 years so there are very few producers that I’m not familiar with. I don’t mean producer like Diddy who def is a producer bc of his ear, I’m talking raw from the inception to finished beat kind of producing.
Because of what 9th did from like 2003-2008, he has become a legend for me. All hip-hop producers get measured against the Pete, Large Pro, Dilla, etc so if you're someone that there is a clear line from them to you then I have to give you respect. 9th Wonder never switched his style to pander to radio.
As aproducer you gotta respect the process thats the only gripe when it comes to studio time, from scratch is a time killa but worth it when the track becomes sooo fiya!!!

It’s relatable to read your comment bc as bad as you wanted to say your FAVORITE producer you had to say ONE of…I felt your pain on having to unfortunately make that distinction. I so badly want to call him absolute favorite but I’d be disregarding abt 4 or 5 more guys for sure!
Yeah it's really sad, Jay B. That's the state of rap on the radio and what gets the most streams. But we won't be playing that stuff at this house, lol.
2:20 Yuuuuuuup 😆 ;) Womack & Womack - “T.K.O.” ..cover of the Teddy Pendergrass classic “Love T.K.O.” For inquiring minds: It’s Off the LP - ‘Love Wars’ It’s wild too, I’ve always liked the Womack version the best. As a guitarist, the term "Producer" has always been associated and possibly confused with "Engineer"...like Eddie Kramer for Hendrix for example.... they just sat and added effects and ran the mixer. Been a NY style fan with basically everything I heard from there. I figured it was made by a DJ spinning records...or by magic er something! To heck with FL Studio! I want a turntable and an FPC!

But yeah I been a fan since I was in college and my friend Lew came thru with a blank cd of The Listening.

9th's work ethic is insane. Once heard that he owns the motto "30 beats by Thursday". No wonder he never misses
I wonder of he mixes his own stuff and also how much time he has to make beats.
I try my best to rush a batch of like 25-40 beats in a month then choose which ones I wanna work on. I can’t believe he makes as much in a week 🤯
goals
I’m like at 4-5 a month. 😂
From the same school as “5 beats a day for 3 summers”
This is absolutely ridiculous. This man is playing that piece of electronic equipment like the instrument that it is, and it is absolutely beautiful.
been a 9th fan for so many years, the guy makes nothing but fire
I agree
Facts!!
Same here I spent hours drum programming while listening to 9th
I miss his ustream lives, he used to make beats live, this was over a decade ago.
Yeah I seen one of those. Now he mostly DJ's live
@@Monev360 Word, plus he's back to using fruity loops.

All about finding the chops that fit. The cook up.

9th chops and creates just deep grooves. True head nod factor. All love
the way he says he makes music is how i feel. just make how you feeling whatever the time or Circumstances
Good god that last one sent chills though my spine
Making puzzle pieces out of an existing picture and fitting those puzzle pieces in interesting ways. Pure talent!

9th is making love to that machine. . .North Carolina kats are industrious, laidback and intelligent
Just to see him whooo it up at the sound of his creation makes me feel good, keep doing what you do Dude 😊😅😊🎉🎉

Thanks bro! That was the plan. Will be doing videos like this on a lot of other producers as well.
Fuego!! 🔥 🔥🔥🔥!
THANK GOD FOR 9TH!!!
That 3RD beat tho FIRE
From the "Premo School" of chop sampling...
Unbelievable
The remix he did for little brother's "whatever you like" is one of my favorite track's smooth and mellow
This video inspired me to go make some chops
I'm glad it did! That's pretty much the goal. And to educate the youth that don't know these producers.
4:56 that's the expression I aspire to attain while working on my ish 👆
9th defo needs to do a Masterclass
9th Wonder is up there with the greats like Dilla, Preemo, Dre, Kanye, DJ Quik etc.
How old is this beat making session? It's good to see the MPC2500 getting put to work :)
