I put a linkswell on a F350 platinum everything works beside the microphone is there anyway I can put a adaptador so I can use the original microphone ?
Ramon Pasion the linkswrll and GU displays are very different. The GU display uses a built in mic that’s part of the bezel. The stock mic is not used to make the installation as easy as possible
Simon Johnson B&O system is in the works. Should be out soon. There is no need to disconnect power. Everything is plug and play. We also needed the shifter all the way back to make installation easier
Do you still have this radio in your truck if so how did it treat you so far? My stock sync 3 took a shit and I’m in the market for a radio and one last thing do you have the link to this radio? Thanks in advance
I was in my truck for a few weeks and then we moved it to my buddies truck for long term testing. We need to shoot that video but overall the solution is cool but it’s very buggy and the functionality is kinda lacking. Other options on the market have more functionality but still very very buggy.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad basically stock is better? I told the wife anything android is suspect ( laggy, freezing, slow etc ) so I was right and thank you for replying I was ready to dump $800 plus on the radio and I’m glad I didn’t…
Stock is best and most reliable. There is some flash that comes with the bigger screens for sure and if you can live with the bugs, some have to have the big screen. For me, I don’t use the screen much. Mainly for climate controls. I do most everything else from my phone
So I get the product has its own touch !! No comments there but seriously the price tag , linkswell and pheonix make similar product with android OS and way cheaper then this ... just because this has knobs and pry tool included and other don’t doesn’t mean you will charge 800$ or 900$ more... just my 2 cents !! On the other hand nice video :)
Faizan Khan I agree on the price. I know the main difference we have seen is this one is plug and play. No tapping power or anything. There is also No scavenging the airbag display or anything.
With the linkswell and Phenoix radios there are 2 models the PX3 and PX6. The PX3 is painfully out dated, and isn't worth the cheaper price. That being said its still $500 more then the PX6 unit.
Joe Hansen I’ve looked at the Phoenix briefly and I think they have a nicer map interface too. Not that I would use it with the ease of CarPlay or Android auto, but it’s one of those things these large displays should have.
Exactly, i have the phenoix in my power wagon, which is a nice unit, its not as invasive as the Ford units. Which makes it easier to integrate. I use android auto. But the built in GPS is nice to have when you have no signal
So when the APIM Module (the part that is on the back of the touchscreen) on the factory Sync 3 goes bad like it did in my 2016 F-150, the option is to spend $1100 with tax and shipping on a new APIM and install myself or $1350 for Ford to do it or to upgrade into a system like this for $1999 since the Phoenix and the Linkwell systems (even though less expensive) seem to still need the factory APIM to function correctly. While the larger screen is pretty sweet, its an extra I am not really after, but the choices are pretty slim if you are in APIM hell (like I am sure a lot of Ford owners are) and are sick of Bluetooth dropping calls or music, the touchscreen freezing up or being really slow or the back up camera staying on even though you are in Drive. I just dont know much about GU Auto Tech and dont want to drop almost 2K on this and have them go out of business in a year or two due to the freaking coronavirus or supply issues, etc. Has anyone actually bought and installed this unit and used it for a few months that can vouch for the functionality and customer support?
I have my buddy Jason running this system now and has been single November without any major issues. We’ve worked with GU a few times over email and they have been pretty responsive so far. The company backing them is fairly big and these screens go on every Shelby truck in Europe so I don’t see going out of business for a while
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. That is reassuring knowing they have the Shelby contract in Europe and that the one your buddy has is doing good going on 9 months with no major problems. Again, thanks for the response and if I add this to my truck, I'll try to give the internet some updates since I am pretty sure there are lots of others with bad APIMs that have questions about these.
Andrew Sizemore a few times I’ve though my 2020 may have a bad apim the way the Bluetooth cuts out. Problem is it’s hard to replicate and happens randomly. If it’s not easy to replicate, dealer won’t fix it under warranty
I was really looking forward to the long term review. Are you planning on releasing it soon? I have a 2018 Raptor 802A. Correct me if I’m wrong but this looks to be a better built and better quality unit versus the linkswell and the phoenix automotive versions. Thanks for the great video.
Ben Maldonado III yeah. Planning on doing a long term review soon. The electronics and build quality of this is far superior. But if your truck has the B&O system there is a slightly different version required. The model we are testing now does not work with B&O. Last we heard they were working on releasing the B&O compatible system soon
Keep It Dirty Off-Road Thanks for the quick reply. Yes i do in fact have the B&O system. Thanks to your video I think I’ve made up my mind. I’ll keep a look at for the B&O compatible unit coming out. Look forward to more videos.
We have an install video on the channel yes and we found a few issues. We are doing a long term review as it’s currently in my buddy’s truck. But he’s taking it out of his truck is that tells you anything. System works, it just has one too many drawbacks and we will talk about it in an upcoming video
This specific unit, No. the new truck has the B&O radio and that requires a separate chip to make the display plug and play. Even doing after market speakers requires some reprogramming with the B&O radio it’s so picky. GU auto tech is working on a version compatible and hopefully they will let us test it on the new truck
Goofy Taylor we plan on doing a long term update soon. We just got the latest software update for the display and lots of improvements so give us a few weeks to get that video out
great post!! and where's that update video?! also, any suggestions on which attachments to get for an iPhone user, maybe running a Garmin gps? does this unit come with the ability to play videos or will that need another attachment for maybe some USB?
Andrew Lowell it’s got USD ports so you just need a cable to connect and iPhone. For maps it has a built in app for that or you can use CarPlay. As for videos, it can play videos off the net using the browser. It cannot play them off your phone but it will need to connect to your phones hotspot to do it. No long term review unfortunately. If you follow the channel, my truck got totaled by a UTV crashing into it, shortly after and this unit did not work with my new truck.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad OH noooo! im sorry to hear that brother. So ive watched like 15 of your videos in the last 8 hours lol. My main question was how reliable is this monitor? It is new and very pricey. I don’t want to be 1800 for a screen that no one has recommended. What do you think this far about it?
@@Soundbreaks one of my first questions. They don't use tablet displays like other competitors. They use automative grade components and that means the touch screen has to meet automative grade impact standards. In fact, these units are build in the same factory that does Pioneer head units using the same higher quality components. So that's why it's more expensive. Also plugs into the OBD port for tire pressure and doors adjar and several other functions pertaing to the OBD port. Add torque the app to it and the skys the limit what this radio can do🤙

a few years ago I would have agree with you. But these days with Cell internet available almost everywhere and a ton of free streaming services offering much better audio quality, Satellite radio is just too expensive and that quality is not great, specially in big city areas. So I think that's way they did not invest in putting a satellite radio into this display. Streaming is really taking over.

Okay so do the steering wheel control buttons work properly?
Yes, volume and next controls all work. Only the voice button does not work
Keep It Dirty Off-Road I can honestly say in my truck I’ve never used the voice control button on the steering wheel.
Carl Stovall me neither. It’s basically useless to me
Looks great. Too bad no solution for B&O yet. Why did you leave your truck power on during the install?
Simon Johnson B&O system is in the works. Should be out soon.
There is no need to disconnect power. Everything is plug and play. We also needed the shifter all the way back to make installation easier
