I still can’t believe this guy is 3 minutes down the road from me, he’s a great guy. If you’re ever in the Indianapolis area, drive north a bit to Westfield and pay him a visit.
I have the only gun shop in Upstate NY that carries a good stock of AR parts. Other gun shops moved away from ARs since the SAFE Act. I learned not to stock long guns. I have better prices on guns and ammo but lack the visibility of the big chain stores. I have 11 long guns left and that's it. I don't make any profit on long guns. I will do special orders. I no longer sell hand guns. Never made any money on hand guns. I also don't sell muzzle loaders, powder, tannerite, or re-loading supplies. I have $12,000 in ammo that trickles out. Every time I tried to branch out into other areas, it didn't pay off. After six years in business, I learned what to invest in and what to stay away from. 2019 was my worst year but with Gander Outdoors and other small shops closing, I may improve this year.
My local little gun shop I love visiting.. Main reason is many older people sell their firearms because they don't hunt anymore or the widows bring the guns in.. AMAZING what you find. I'm sure you have the same thing happen with your shop.. The local gun shop has CPL classes, so he sells many entry level pistols and revolvers. I've never bought a firearm from a big "box" store. Support the little guy.. Keep up the good vids.. from Michigan.
After reading the comments I realized something. It is important to support the local gun shops. As long as the store price isn't more than around $50 at a brick n motor store than online I buy local. I have bought online once, because I could not find it locally and if ordered was going to be very expensive. Sometimes local can save you $'s I had to order my Sig Legion SAO from a gun store and actually saved a few bucks.
TopDog8762 good point. I also buy local if the price is only a little higher. By the time you add shipping, tax, transfer cost, 50 is about right. Big plus is keeping the online guys honest and the ability to take stuff in if there’s an issue. They can also usually get bet better warranty attention than you. Finally, I will never buy at box stores like sportsman’s warehouse who are full list and no customer support.
Hi Chris! Great video! Love your store, and your explanation as to how you stock. My question is about reloading equipment and components? Have you thought about stocking that in addition to ammo? It's hard to find a good shop that stocks that, and when you do, you keep coming back to get more components. An added bonus is when there is an ammo shortage, you can say...we don't have any ".380....but, you can make it yourself....here's what you need" ect ect ect.
I am wanting to buy an AK but am very new to the market. It is honestly very discouraging when just about the cheapest you can get into an AK is around $700, anything below $1000 is imported by Century Arms and get a lot of mixed reviews (so I can't buy with confidence), and building an AK is not something you can really do if you live in a small apartment and only have a few hand tools. The best anyone can really do if they want a cheap, already built AK that is decent is "just buy a WASR". Dang, the AK market sucks compared to how cheap and easy it is these days to buy/build a cheap AR 15.
@@ghostuscoyote This is partially correct. AKs made by Century (VSKA, RAS47, C39) have poor reputations and should be avoided. But some AKs imported by Century, especially the Romanian WASR (made by Cuigir) and the Yugo/Serbian M70 (made by Zastava) are good rifles.
@@daspiper8941 It's your money, but C39 has the same problem as the RAS49, soft metal internals. You can see the issue in the AKOU 5K test. The bolt deforms and chips the rails. This issue is more dangerous with a stamped receiver which is why so many RAS47s blew themselves up.
Considering the "Trump Slump" it's great to see empty or low stock shelves! I recall one of your videos mentioning things being slow since 2016. I'm opening my own store this year! Cheers from SoCal
~Great Video. I'll come over to visit your store soon. I live on Indy's East-side. ~I am an AK Fan as well. I became one about seven years ago when I bought my first Arsenal. ~Today I'll be going to the NRA Convention.
How does pricing work? Do you use MSRP or what the market is saying as a guideline? Because I've been in gun stores where I've seen the prices jump all over the place.
Pricing will really vary from store to store. I use a very low margin model, but it drives a high volume of sales... Alot of stores will use a high margin at a lower volume... Alot would also likely depend on demographics. A place with higher wage earners may price up because they know their local customers are less price sensitive. I know that my locals are more price sensitive, so I have to have a great price if they are going to buy from me. I also have alot of competitors both locally and online. You're right, prices are across the board when you shop at many different places, which is why it is smart to shop around... Or at least find the one store that prices the most competitively and shop with them. Thanks for watching.
I am at the point that every time I go into a gun store I look for used Revolvers. If the gun store is trying to sell a used Revolver for a new price I just move on. Why am I looking for used Revolvers? Because with the huge influx of "novice gun enthusiasts" I find they buy a Revolver realize the ammo cost more and cleaning is more difficult and they get rid the wheel gun for something else without having shot it much. Pistols usually different, 9mm is cheap, people carry the gun beat the crap out of it and then trade/sell it for the next bright and shinny thing. And in 9mm there is always something new.
Stock more guns from movies, video games, TV series, always sell them good. Join local gun club and keep in touch with gun people, ask what they like. Watch other gun channels see what type of firearm get more views.🙌
It’s too bad that consumers don’t understand the cost to the small business owner when they use any type of plastic, whether it is debit or credit. My fees run 3%. In a year’s time, I could take TWO vacations with what I am charged for credit card fees. No wonder the banks have the tallest skyscrapers in the biggest cities. I also find that as a cash only spender, laying cold hard cash on the counter often gets the seller’s attention. I don’t care about getting attention, but the reactions are so much different. I also find there is a greater amount of respect, too, from the seller. I wish that more people would actually pay for transactions with cash, especially at small businesses. It really makes a difference in the long run.
I'll have to try this theory out at my local store, bc if I throw cash on the counter and they still try to gouge me, I'm gonna have words. I have always used a debit card, which I thought was like cash bc it comes directly from account, at a military credit union...and they give you a little extra benefits than regular banks do. Mine does anyway.
1MADMAX good point.. I always thought debit was the same as cash also. Maybe guns stores should have a cash price and a debit price ? Uwwwww mark ain’t gonna like that comment
@Thystaff Thywillthe best place I've seen for mags is gunmag warehouse.com, so far. your local shop is best place for guns, I haven't seen a place online thats better to buy guns at bc of the ffl dealer charges. I can usually get a few dollars knocked off at the gun store I frequent, but you have to be a regular buyer to get that even, unless someone is trying to get rid of a gun quickly. buds guns isnt bad I dont think, for guns, not sure. damn dealers always cry poor-mouth, but thats BS, especially if they have a range.
1MADMAX There is a good chance that you won’t see any price difference, but it’s worth trying. Employees typically have no idea, whatsoever, that the shop is being charged 3%. Nonetheless, why make the banks rich, at the expense of the store? They are taking nearly 3% out of every single transaction, and often, swipe fees, too.
Do you get any European guns in I know they won’t be imported but do you get guns like HK clones or originals FN, AUG FN scar SIG Enfield you get the idea
Right now in PA hunting guns would be smart. Semiautomatic rifles wouldn't be a good sale right now because they aren't allowed to hunt with. Lately flintlock muzzleloader's sell because the late season is getting more popular. Shotguns and manual rimfire for small game.
In my experience, the inventory at stores near me sucks, filled with overpriced mediocre stuff. Lots of things from China and Turkey too. No one will special order anything because the distributor in my region never has anything quality it seems.
