It really puts things into perspective. As a kid, 1971 felt so long ago. But now, 9 yrs feels like yesterday. So I sort of understand how my Dad felt. It was still very fresh. Even st 9 yrs later.

This date, I heard this version for the first time. All I ever heard was the Fillmore live version since it came out on radio stations locally. I am amazed at the clarity of the recording since those times, live sound recording was a bit "crude" compared to today's technology. Almost came close to today's standards. I say that because I can hear every nuance that Duane and Dickey does with their guitars, although the drum parts are quite inaudible. The version is an equal to the Fillmore version. Dynamic and intense.

Awesome. Holy Chrome! I never got to see them, saw lots of bands, but never them, bummer. At least we have these great recordings to listen to. Even they were all great at solos, it was always about the songs, there was always a musical grove of some kind happening. A lot of these shredders now, they go for speed and all that, but they dont have any creative soul about them like Duane and the band, just a totally different thing.

The guitar in the pic was a few years earlier, it is a black LP CUSTOM, you can tell by the fret markers, I have seen this pic before, but never any explanation why he was using a CUSTOM--never heard nor saw it again. At Stoneybrook--just a month and 10 days before he died, he was mostly likely playing the Tobacco Burst==it had the hottest pickups of his 3 LPs--he used his Goldtop on Layla, and within about a month had taken the pickups out of Goldie and installed them into the Cherryburst fall of 1970---he used the Cherryburst till I think I read about June of 1971 when he acquired the Tobacco Burst, which had the hot pups. For me, Duane's the one.

Chris Biggar Chris Biggar It was taken at the Municipal Auditorium in Atlanta on March 23, in 1970. It’s unrelated to this show, but I like the picture and feel it’s still representative of the musical content.

    Hi Dayne
You continue to outdo yourself with these releases. I've always maintained YDLM is the perfect forum for The Allmans to just let 'er rip. This is an outstanding version. Just love how Berry and Duane step right in after I'm guessing Dickey breaks a string or two. Thank you for circulating and sharing your music.
Could I inquire and ask where this performance is from ? Date? My header cuts off at " St..."
Many thanks Dayne. Enjoy the Super Bowl.
    Peter

More and fastest notes are Duane's, always... Also a dirtier sound. Dickey played less notes but with more elegancy, more melodic too

First time I’ve heard this cut. That second break is tricky. Sure sounds like Duane when it starts, but then you know it’s Dickey.

Great band, but not a chance at one of the greatest guitar players

I don't rate musicians as greatest-not greatest but for ME dwayne and abb before his death were one of my faves and I ve been paying playing for 40 + years
