Unfortunately, you won't be Croatian for long. As soon as the children start school, you will immediately take them to Canada. Unfortunately, you will be right, Croatian schools are the worst in the world, the education system in Croatia is terrible and stressful for a child. Canada has one of the best education systems in the world. But, make sure that one day they return to the Homeland. Never and nowhere, not even in Canada, will they have that balance in life between work and peace, as they have in Croatia. Canada does not have that peace, that easy way of life in a fast world, nor will it ever have.
Congrats. I moved here from the UK in 09 and wasn't planning to become a citizen because we were all citizens of the EU. Then my countrymen decided they didn't want freedom of movement in the EU so straight after the Brexit vote I applied and in about a year I was a citizen, in fact I got the notification just before Xmas 6 years ago. Because I had that short time of still being an EU citizen I didn't need to take a Croatian language or history test. This summer me and my Croatian family travelled to the UK with our lovely blue Croatian passports.
Good on you for acting fast. Saw a lot of Brits with big egos thinking they wouldn't be kicked out of Spain, Portugal, France, etc so they didn't take the proper steps like you and they were in for a world of hurt.
Congrats brother. Many Britts moved into CRO last decade especialy, mostly in Zadar and around the town. They are all in awe with Zadar and its beauty and literaly ALL of them say that moving here was the best decidion in their lives. Wellcome and we wish you happy life in our country.
+1 population, nice! 😁 Slow and steady wins, we'll get there, one by one 😂 Jokes aside, since so many people have left Croatia it's quite wholesome to see somebody be so happy and excited to become Croatian. Congratulations and welcome aboard!
Congratulations Sarah!! I am also a Canadian Croatian living here and totally agree with all your reasons as to why Croatia is such a beautiful place to live. Living here, one learns patience and living in the moment. I love watching your channel, you are definitely a "glass half full" person and are a joy to watch and set a wonderful example for us all! Čestitam!!😘🥂
Congrats Sarah!!! I'm just like you, both a Canadian and Croatian Citizen. i went through the Family tree route to obtain mine here in the Toronto area. The gentleman at the Croatian Embassy that I dealt with in Mississauga at the time was such a pleasure to work with and got things done very quickly. This was just before Croatia entered into the EU, so it was a bit easier at the time as well for that reason. TIP****** Just a note to anyone applying in the future, make sure you always apply for your Canadian "LONG FORM" Birth Certificate. You will have to pay a fee for it, but honestly if you don't have it, your honestly just wasting your time. I'm planning on retiring in Dallmatia within the next 5 years 🤞🤞
Sretno draga Sarah. 💖👍🥰🙏🥰🇭🇷❤️🇨🇭❤️🇨🇦
I am currently getting my dual citizenship with Croatia based on my grandfather & grandmother immigrating to the US. I have an appointment in May 2024 with the Croatian Embassy in Los Angeles. I have 90% of the documents needed so far. I have a lawyer in Croatia making sure I have everything I need when I go to the embassy. You're lucky. I was told it could take up to 5 years for approval.
Congratulations!!! I’m also Canadian like you & I have applied for Croatian citizenship based on decent as my grandfather was born in Dubica! It took me *2 years* to gather all of the correct documents, do the translations etc. I have submitted it all to the Croatian consulate in Canada & now I also wait. I’m nervous about getting a call telling me I need something more (my papa changed his last name from Maryanovich to Marian but my mom’s long form birth certificate had a stamp saying “official name change” so *hopefully* it is enough bc I was worried about proving/explaining that). We have truly enjoyed your visits about Croatia & we spent 3 weeks there in July last summer & we LOVED it.
Big support for your citizenship application! Yes, I know this process takes long but I think you're gonna finally be Croatian citizen. Many of us in Croatia would be very happy to see as much as possible our fellow Croats to come back here to bring us about new fresh blood, fresh ideas, knowledge, working ethics, to connect Croatia much more with wider world in all walks of life... And sadly, Croatia is also experiencing population decline that is threatening our economic growth and future... So, YOU'RE VERY, VERY WELLCOME!!!
Congratulations Sarah! You have been Croatian at heart and one of the best ambassadors by advocating the beauty, culture, and adventure Croatia has to offer. Very happy for you. And thank you for walking us through the process- very helpful.
For all thise complaining about Croatian bureaucracy, try applying for the Canadian ETA. The number of passwords, tutorial videos one need to watch just to be able to fill an online form is crazy. Plus, in case you need to send additional information, they will get back to you one month after they requested it. Then you answer some additional questions and wait one more month for their reply.
I’ll be honest, it’s three years that I’m living and working in Croatia and I would like to get that citizenship. Hope I’ll get there one day as you my dear Sarah. Dođi u Drniš pa ćemo te počastiti piće, ovo mjesto je jedno od najbolji mjesta u Dalmaciji i također pršut se radi najbolje ovdje. I don’t eat prosciutto because I’m muslim, but I invite you to come in this tiny little town sa velikim srcama. Srdačan pozdrav iz Drniša.
First i want to congratulate you on becoming a Croation citizen! I am Canadian living in Toronto, however, my mother is Croation, from Ribnik and came to Canada at a young age. I too am in the process of getting my citizenship. Just trying to gather all the documentation needed. Sarah I must say you put me to shame, you speak Croation so well! When I was a little girl I spoke Croation fluently as well as Macedonian, however, unfortunately, because I don't use it much now, I have lost a lot, and am kind of shy about trying to speak it, for the sake of making mistakes and sounding silly. My hats off to you! Is that a requirement of citizenship? Speaking Croation fluently? Any other insite you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I love your channel, you have a beautiful family and actually hope to go to Croatia some day soon. Thanks again for a very informative video.
Hi!! A Croatian woman here! I was born in Croatia to Croatian parents so I am personally not sure, but he did say on the time stamp here: 14:14 that you have to pass a Croatian test as well! Good luck!!
Congrats! Such helpful info! Thank you so much! I’m going to start my process as an American in California who’ll be married very soon to a straight lineage Croatian born there citizen, and I’m also 1st generation Italian (and will be applying for that citizenship as well ) , we are moving to Croatia very soon permanently , just came back after 3 months there, which we go every year to his home. Great to have this information to know about residency etc. I can’t wait to start the process ! I’m just still trying to learn the language so that part worries me . I already speak 3 languages and Croatian has been the hardest! We have an excellent (family) attorney out of Zadar to help us thru this process ! I’m so excited. I hated coming home after this trip… Croatia is where I belong! Absolutely love love love it there ! ❤
in Croatia we have joke that teta from šalter always need at least one more paper or document and now we call that formular F1P(Fali 1 Papir/missing 1 paper)... from bottom of my soul i truly hate our bureaucracy, it's long and pointless... congratulations, snajka
Dobrodošla nova sunarodnjakinje, dovedite nam još svojih starih sunarodnjaka u Hrvatsku, nažalost Hrvata je svakim danom sve manje i manje, samo neka nas ima čim više, čestitke još jednom!
the good thing with being someone thats born in sweden is that you dont only learn swedish in school you also learn english plus u can choose between spanish, france and german which one u wanna learn in school too so like when i finally have learned croatian i will be able to speak like four languages, idk why but i kinda think thats cool
p.s. i only wanna learn croatian cuz for the first i like the language and for the second my step mother is from there so i wanna suprise her with that i have learned croatian, i wanna suprise her on her birthday but thats in a month and i dont know if i'll be able to learn croatian that quickly but lets wish me some god luck :, )
Congrats Sarah!!! Yeeeee!!!! Welcome! I got my Canadian citizenship after 7 years in Canada. Was not in a hurry neither! Also thank you for all wonderful videos you make about Croatia. You really do make Croatia better place to leave. 🌹🍰🍾💖

My wife and I applied through ancestry last Fall. Hired a Croatian attorney and took all of our documents to the consulate in Chicago. Still waiting, but visited Croatia for the first time last month. So, so ready to become a citizen.
I’m so glad you made this video! I’m American and just recently obtained my Croatian citizenship by descent and it took 4 long years! We are now waiting for my hubby to get his by marriage through me. It’s already been a year. Hoping we can move to Croatia sometime next year! I’m curious to know what citizenship your mom had? I was raised by a mom with a different citizenship as me as well. She met and married my father in Korea and later became an American citizen when I was an adult. I also have a permanent birthright visa in Korea, but unfortunately they do not allow dual citizenship. Congrats to you! And so glad you are making videos again. We have been following y’all for a while! 😊
Congratulations 🎉 I did mine here in Australia I got mine within 5 months Now I help Croatian Australians obtain their own. I’ve helped over 200 people in the last 3+ years. The go to guy ! 😂 before the consulate. Lp vama svima možda kad dođem idemo svi na kavu
