THE video to watch on this procedure. Kudos.
Making a straight, real-time video sounds easy - until you try it. Well done, and the camera gets everything needed in focus and well-lit - something else that's not as easy as to do as folks think.
Notes: Don't freak if your machine looks a little different. This is still the video you want. The TimeMaster 21199, for example, uses a different height adjust assist spring. It's a simple coil, suspended from the deck, and attaching to a slotted flange plate welded about in the center of the axle assembly - do not unhook this spring at the top. It's held by a small rod in a dimple in the deck, and if you unhook the spring at the top, or allow it to become detached, that small rod can (will) come loose - then you've got to go above the deck and take some stuff apart to find that rod and put it back.
The center "carrier" bearing on the long transmission output shaft is Toro part# 104-8699 - it's a fairly common bearing, a flanged ball bearing, ID 3/4" x OD 1-3/8", and you can get that size bearing for less than $2.00... Don't. Or... if you can find a decent one, post it here, but the factory part (which is not all that wonderful, BTW) is a bit under $4.00, and the "bargain" bearings I've found in this size, start out loose and rough - they're not going to get better with use. A bearing that takes that much labor to replace is a poor place to save money.
I'm a little more inclined to experiment with the two outer bearings - Toro part# 109-8020 (52-2450 ?) - they seem to be an R8-2RS bearing - there appear to be some decent alternatives available, and since these are relatively easier to service, may be worth a try for you.
The hammer, BTW, is actually an actual Harley Davidson precision tuning tool - I'm not sure about the part number, but you don't need a factory Harley hammer - usless you have a Harley.

    Good video and clear instructions.
My Toro Timemaster failed after 6 years of home mowing. No drive to the right hand wheel. I removed the transmission.
I stripped the transmission down and found the problem not to be gears or halfshaft problems, but a split in half halfshaft retaining bush that doubles as an oil circulation paddle (the transmission housing is half full of 20-50 or 15-40 oil).
This 2 bit thing was made of black plastic or nylon and clearly the weak link. No parts are available for the transmission internals, in the UK anyway!
The retaining bush / oil paddle is a factory assemble push fit over a small stainless steel pin that goes through the half shaft to retain. I found the pin in the bottom of the transmission.
Once the bush split and the pin fell out it allowed the halfshaft / inner drive transfer wheel to move out away enough not to get any drive from the crown wheel when the cable pulls on the transmission drive actuator lever.
I've made a brass bush (have lathe will turn) and machined out the paddle so it fits over the brass bush. A stainless steel bolt through the paddle halves and bush / halfshaft keeps it all in place.
I cleaned out the oil in there (was in good condition), removed all the old silicone gasket sealant from the mating surfaces, refilled with oil - just under half full, and used automotive gasket sealant.
The oil seals on the halfshafts looked good and tight.
Now all is in place it works just as it should. Pulls like a train again!
The other halfshaft has a similar bush / oil paddle but in a clear / white nylon, but it is in great condition!
Perhaps I had a faulty moulded plastic bush?
There is nothing on the internet about stripping / repairing these transmissions. You are expected to pay the $150 + tax or £181 for a whole new transmission!
I'm making a little video about the steps and what I did to repair it. Will post up soon.
    Regards,
    Steve

I bought the ExMark 30 Commercial the first year of it's release and put on an hour meter. The mower was so fast and strong when new but slow and slippery ever since. I've had to replace a transmission after about every 110 hours of use. The first one or two were covered under warranty. The first trans was the best and every trans since has slipped much more and tightening didn't help as it was as tight as possible. They said they made improvements but all the trans have slipped more. The part number did change. I asked my dealer and he said they lightened the clutch to make it last longer but, I said like a automotive clutch, if you let it slip more, it wears faster so I call B.S. on Toro/ExMark. I tightened the cable so much to make it better it eventually snapped. I retired my mower to personal use after maybe 500 hours. Since new, I've spent at least $2000 on pulleys, spindles, bearings, transmissions, belts, cables, etc. It hasn't made a nice cut the last half of the use (250hrs+). Only the Kawasaki engine has been perfect, otherwise it's a lemon!! Avoid it at all cost! I wish I could sue! Later, I bought the Toro Hydro 21 Aerator brand new, from a different dealer. On every job after about 20mins the aerator slowed down to maybe 1mph. The dealer and rep said they didn't have a clue and because it cooled down by the time they would look at it they did not believe me. I showed a video and they said, huh, we don't know. Fluids were all new and full, and I used Premium Ethanol-free. I fought it for a while and sold it.

Just saw a Toro video where you missed cutting and pasting this. You'd better get over there and put your mark on it, too.
I think it says a lot that you'll use a mower that "hasn't made a nice cut" in 250hrs+ without investigating the primary cause - the physics are not too tough - you roll a sharp spinning blade past some grass and the grass gets cut.. you seem to be overlooking something pretty fundamental.
Having said that, every machine has its weak spots - yours may be suffering from a loose nut somewhere near the handle.

    Super video! Two questions
1.) What is the part number of your replacement transmission?
2.) Where do you get the spring tool that you used at the very end to get those two ends of the spring in place?
I have a Toro 22200 and the transmission was failing just months after the purchase. The mower was always gently used. Under warranty, the dealer replaced the transmission but certainly an improved transmission was used? That is the reason I am asking for the part number. And with aid of this video, I will be able to replace my buddies worn out 8 year old tranny. Thanks!

Sir, I enjoy watching your videos and please keep them coming. The question I have is that when I put my 30 inch toro timemaster in drive, it is noisy I replaced all the belts and the pulleys appears to be good. I am worried it could be my transmission. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Toro has now discontinued that axle and offer only 131-4516. The hole for the bearings has a much too large diameter. Anyone have this issue?
