I’ve had some very good raw vegan “cheesecake” in the past, made with cashews and coconut oil (among other things). I’m also wondering why Trevor couldn’t have made a cheesecake with regular vegan cream cheese. He seemed about as confused by his decision to use hummus as I was.

yes lol. I make vegan cheesecake with vegan cream cheese and its literally such a good product my family prefers it over non vegan cake... its not that hard, its literally the same recipe, but with cheese... that is vegan.
Id love to see an episode where the really try to hide Links hated foods in dishes and not tell him, as a mom with a picky eater I got a way with hiding blended carrots in mac and cheese, squash in pizza sauce, etc.
My picky eater would see/taste right through that and never trust my cooking again.

As a vegan, I was confused by the recipes they chose. There are many ways to make these dishes vegan that have closer flavored replacements. It’s fun to get creative but they didn’t make sense for the challenge.

I agree. I like GMM but this is exactly why people think vegan food is gross and refuse to try it. I promise none of us vegans are making cheesecake with hummus (try a dang Daiya cheesecake!), and most brownie recipes these days just use flax eggs. These vegan episodes are so frustrating to watch.
I'm also vegan, and yeah while I wish they chose more accurate representations of modern vegan food I also think they chose some of the weird recipes for the entertainment value, which makes sense!

Yeah lol there are dozens of brands and some of them are actually pretty damn good. The one round that truly tripped them up was the quiche round which had a lot to do with the fact that they used JUST egg which has had years of development behind it and not just “replace this with this other random ingredient”
It appears to me they didn’t use any pre made substitute ingredients but rather alternatives if that makes sense. Like they didn’t use vegan butter, or vegan cheese they use an alternative ingredient
@@chrismc2083they used justegg for the quiche.. so I think it woulda been acceptable to use substitutions that were more proven to be difficult to differentiate.. but then it wouldn’t make for an episode where they’d be able to guess correctly to many of them.
I feel like if they're going to do a vegan blind taste test they should have a vegan chef and a non-vegan chef make separate dishes so they can try to make it as convincing as possible

Plus the google definition of food would include dessert anyways, “any substance consumed by an organism for nutritional support”. So, it’s not just an American thing. I never realized it was so important. To me, dessert is food, but not all food is dessert.

As a vegan baker I would like to petition Rhett and Link to redo this episode 😂
I'm severely lactose intolerant, so I usually get the vegan option when I go to a restaurant to avoid dairy... the best vegan options are usually the ones that don't try to mimic something else like mac n cheese. I'll gladly get indian, thai, etc and it's always so tasty and I don't have to worry about dairy or some weird vegan cheese stuck in

@@EsotericBibleSecrets all I find online are sweet potato cookies with chocolate chips. If they taste like chocolate chip cookies then my kids will eat them if they taste like sweet potato what’s the point lmao
why not just use a regular cookie recipe and then replace the butter w sweet potato? might be some trial and error but maybe keep mixing till you get the typical consistency 🤔

I had a quiche at a friend's house that was made with "Just Egg" and it is actually a pretty good substitute for real eggs.

Vegan food generally tastes like cardboard anyway. Most people can easily tell the difference.
Vegans learn to eat nasty food or they chemically modify a food to taste like and texture of the original so badly that it ends up healthier to eat the real thing.

I wish they used more tofu and flax eggs and xanthan gum :( or is that too easy?
its because vegan foods are pale imitations of the real thing.
tofu has a spongy quality (that i actually like) taht makes it really easy to tell when its used
and Xanthan gum has an aftertaste that i would describe as "sticky plastic"
Yeah like for the cookies they could have just used vegan butter.
Too easy with tofu, xanthan gum is an undetectable thickening agent (I use it to thicken dressings).
