Great video! I point below a few rules errors; rules omissions I did not bother since you did a simplified rules teach. 2:18 - You don't have to sit in a specific order faction-wise, the only time where order is important is during setup, after that the order of play can be randomly decided (bonus: you might want to make the Marquise player the first player if you want to give him a little boost, since they tend to suffer if going later) (5.1.4) 2:59 and 4:27 - The players make their first choice (starting clearing for Marquise and starting leader for Eyrie) after receiving their starting hand (the choice may be dictated by your starting hand) (5.1.3 and 5.1.4) 10:24 - Ambush: the attacker can play a ambush card from his hand that also matches the suit of the clearing, not necessarily the suit of the ambush card played by the defender. (4.3.1.I) 12:40 - Remembering that the wood should be connected via ruled clearings to the building location (6.5.4.II) 13:32 - The Keep abiltiy prevents other players to put any piece on the Keep clearing, not just buildings. Other players can still move pieces to that clearing, they just can't put them there from outside of the board (6.2.2) 13:47 - The Field Hospitals ability let the Marquise player spend 1 card (matching the clearing) whenever any number of Marquise warriors are removed from a clearing, t to place those warriors in the clearing with the Keep token. (6.2.3), it's not 1 card per warrior. 16:30 - Dominance cards are not used in a 2 player game (5.1.3)
Law of Root - 5.1.1 Step 1: Assign Factions and Starting Player. Assign one faction to each player using ANY method. The viable factions at each player count are listed in the learning-to-play guide (page 22). Determine the starting player and seating order RANDOMLY. Each player takes their chosen faction board and all pieces, as listed on the back of the faction board.
One question - you said when a workshop is destroyed, it goes back to the right most slot. Does this imply 1) that the cat then loses the victory points associated with that original workshop and/or 2) that the cat has the potential to gain those victory points again when he builds again?

Wow super neat and clear. Also, the electronic version is great. It has effective tutorials and online play. Platforms: Steam (Mac/Windows), iPad.
Thank you Alain! I haven’t tried tabletop gaming on e-platforms but root definitely looks really cool on an app! The animations look awesome and are very fitting
Really happy you enjoy my work! Tons of content coming soon so can’t wait to show you even more ideas I’ve had on the next set of games- chai, marvel champions, monumental-just to name a few!
A few small rules errors (which are easy to make with this game - its got a lot of rules). On the first battle example, only one cat should have been removed as you had a single bird warrior in the clearing.
So do the birds only score a point when removing tokens if the Despot is in charge? If so, I’ve been playing it wrong. 😮 If not, then what specifically does his power allow? Also, do birds rule a clearing with only a roost? I’m asking because you moved two birds into a clearing with no other birds but you had a roost.
I dont get it, 5th video of roots still didnt find one who can coherently explain the rules, jumping thru names actions cards and everything in between...
11:28 - what kind of Marquise player board is that? Is it a fourth printing or a prototype version? I have KS ver. and there are no fox/rabbit/mouse icons for sawmills, etc. Also 2nd workshops gives 2VP on my board. Above and on the left there are more differences than on my board. I can't find the full board image of this type. Could someone help and elaborate?
Ok, so I've just watched unboxing of 4th Printing and Marquise player board looks exactly like mine, except for the Field Hospitals ofc. Is it some PNP board ver. you have?
@@Hidetoshi88 hi there! so I got the latest kickstarter version that came in a bundle with all the expansions (4th printing), and I realized the I must've been using the marquise board from the clockwork expansion
I liked it! I think the difficulty feels just about right (the updated clockwork/better bots expansion), but it just sucks because you're kinda limited to the factions since the woodland alliance/vagabond are with more players, but if you get the newer factions outside of the base game (lizards, otters, etc.) then i think it'll be more interesting!
@@TimChuon to be honest a lot of that went over my head, since I haven’t played Root yet, just have heard of the name many times and then you have your video about. I’ll see if I can get it next year :) thanks for your great video work and looking forward to more content!
Loved the video. Big fan of Root. I subscribed and I'm looking forward to more content. Loved the intro to your video. Very edgy. One minor thing, and not trying to be the pronunciation police. There is a "t" at the end of des·pot (/ˈdespət/) Despot does *not* have a silent "t" at the end. It's confusing to me, why we have words with a silent "t" on the end like ballet, gourmet, rapport, ricochet. Why do we even need "k" and "c" in the English language, they essentially serve the same function. Smh....oops...I turned into the pronunciation police at the end.
Thank you so much! Hahahah man I wish I caught that earlier-shouldn't have assumed it was silent 😭 I appreciate the feedback though! Don't worry-or else I wouldn't have ever caught that
Do you play Root with 2p often? I’m curious about your enjoyment of it at low player counts. This is on my radar, but would generally be 2-3p at the most.
We’ve played quite a few rounds! I like the pacing of 2p way more because you’re not constantly waiting around for everyone to finish their player boards and it’s asymmetrical and dynamic enough for different games each time; the downside is you are limited to which factions you can play with in 2s (no vagabond for example)
It is like 2 years i am working on a board game it is called 24H Survival One day i will do a video where i show how to play it and maybe i will send u a copy It is a survival post apocalitic world
Mate, the video quality and effects are nice but you speak too fast for me. Hard to grasp a how to play if you dont give me time to process info slowly. Maybe you re going for short videos but it didnt work for me.
I have a terrible habit of speaking too quickly, especially when I’m excited for a video! I’m sorry about that friend but I’ll try to slow it down a lot more for upcoming tutorials-thank you so much for your feedback!

Dude that intro was incredible 😂 wow. Great video once again. Love this so much

Which printing do you have? My victory tokens don’t look like that for the Marquise or Eyrie :(

From their kickstarter! Although I think they may have some available from time to time on the website!
