@@antonyevtushenko7538 oh dear, someone played a board game and made one mistake? Hope you found another channel that lives up to your high standards of attention to detail.
@@safe-keeper1042 No these mistakes are massive. Complely change the game. Becka is sitting there almost the entire game with a very stacked Eyrie which should have fallen into Turmoil several times. I get what you are saying. Many mistakes can be overlooked, but not these. It's still a fun video for the social vibes of course.
Yeah, a lot of rules mistakes here. The main one is that when the Eyrie adds a card to its decree, the suit of that card dictates in which clearing the action has to occur. So, for example, Becca should have gone into turmoil on the first turn, because her move card said she had to move from a Mouse clearing, but the only clearing she occupied was a Bunny clearing. Then later she had to build in a Bunny clearing (without a roost) but she didn't occupy a clearing that fit that. She treated all cards in her decree as wilds (like bird cards). A couple other I caught were the Woodland Alliance has to spend an extra supporter to put a Sympathy token in a clearing with 2 or more warriors from a single faction. So the WA's first placement of a Sympathy token was incorrect.
Adding as I go... If a WA sympathy token is destroyed, they get a card into their supporter stack matching the clearing it was destroyed in from their attacker's hand. If the attacker doesn't have it, they show the WA their hand and the WA gets a card from the deck. They do not get to choose a card from their attacker's hand. Also, all Sympathy added to the board after the first one must be adjacent to another Sympathy.
The only pieces that contribute towards ruling a clearing are Buildings and Warriors. Circular tokens like the WA's Sympathy or the Marquise's Wood do not contribute towards rule.
When the WA gains cards from getting their Sympathy destroyed or enemy warriors moved into clearings with a Sympathy token, those cards go directly into their supporter stack, not their hand.
When a faction crafts, it can only use each of it's crafting vehicles once per turn. (the marquise crafts 2 cards requiring 5 total mouse crafting ability, but only has 3 mouse workshops)
No non-cat pieces may be placed in the clearing with the Keep, however, pieces may be Moved into that clearing. The keep can be attacked and earns the player that destroys it 1 VP like any other destroyed building or token.
Yes, there were mistakes, but this really helped me understand a lot that I didn't. Super challenging game to understand, especially when you are all new players trying to figure your own faction out. It can be disheartening. Lol. But I say trudge through a game and watch this video and then try again. And then change factions and play again. In regards to the mistakes in this video, I do agree the creators should post in the description comments highlighting these, so we can learn correctly. But amazing that they made and edited this video. It still very much helped us.
Their video has been watched by 25k+ people as of right now. It's important to point out there there have been significant rule mistakes so that the audience is aware. But I agree, I also do not use these playthroughs as a demo for the correct way to play.
At the complexity level of this game I expect to see a few rules mistakes, but getting something so basic as the decree of the Eyrie wrong, although the rules are right there on the board under the spaces where you tuck in the cards does bother me. Especially since in the instructional part of the video Becca says that she loves the game, thus implying she has played the game a few times already...
@@That_Eriksson If these videos are meant to be instructional, they should not advertise them as such in their video description. " Becca Scott is your game tutor, explaining the game mechanics in an easy to follow way, so you can get to playing the games faster."
So many comments about rules, which is pretty normal for a GtG show. But I have to wonder, why have they not assigned some kind of rule-checker like Tabletop used to have? One would think with the amount of comments they get about rules they would've done so by now. Or do they have one and s/he sucks at his/her job?
Even when Tabletop had a rule-checker it got stuff wrong, particularly in the latter seasons. As much as I would have loved another season of Tabletop, the quality of play was dropping.
Understand your comments here. I'm on the fence on this one, because we know how hard it is to do rules videos, especially something like Roots with thick rule book (comes with the territory of war games). We did rule video for Root, already about one hour long! After carefully checking the rules, still found a couple of mistakes. A lot of detailed rules, asymetric power, video took probably 10 hours to film, plus editing, learning etc. Again, not trying to defend anyone here 😀
@@MeepleUniversity What do you mean by a thick rule book? Without the expansion, it's only 9 pages, which is basically nothing by the standards of the war game. Furthermore, it is often praised for the clarity and conciseness of its rule book. The asymmetry definitely makes this so much more difficult to teach though.
There is another book that clarifies everything, I believe? I never said the rule book isn't clear, the rule books both are pretty good, but yes, the asymmetric elements that make it a bit of learning steep :)
It was great to see Root in action. Picked up a copy (+ the expansion) the other day and read the rules but I'm a much better visual learner. It was also really useful reading the comments and learning of their mistakes. I thought the way the one was playing her Decrees was a little suspicious! Thanks GtG and comment section :3
I watched this video month ago not knowing much about Root. I‘ve read the rules now and wanted to watch this to solidify my rule-saviness. Well… first turn of the dynasties has 2 mistakes, First turn of the alliance another mistake and it continues… It‘s Impressive how wrongly they Are playing Root. Thanks to the cast and the amazing productions it’s very entertaining still
I know this is an older video, but I really hope they get a rule checker on staff. I know, people make mistakes. But seriously, they weren't really playing root. Dave using revolt to attack in fox territories long after the fox base was built. Becca's often cited misuse of the decree actions.. seriously, how do you NOT win when you are cheating with the birds that hard? Gina should not have been able to win that turn due to supply line restrictions. The also ignored the rule that the birds rule on a tie and that the cats can save killed units by playing a card. To all those who say "Who cares? People make mistakes." A lot of people care. It ruins the enjoyment of the game to watch it played so incorrectly. At the very least put annotations in the video explaining the things that were played wrong. Even Achievement Hunter has a rules expert on hand to catch mistakes, and they are video game channel. Becca is the one teaching the game at the beginning, she should know how to play. They play a learning game before they film. They should be catching mistakes before the real game.
Totally agree, at first this video seems very well-shot, they put cuts and efforts, adding subtitles even, but the Eyrie decree changed everything......
I also think that it that many rules are going to go out the window then the video should never air. A lot of people may watch for fun, but some people, like me, watch to see the game in action to understand rules. Hard rk understand things if the rules aren't being followed
@@chand911 how does this reply even make sense? The decree rules were not followed at all throughout the most of the game. And there were several other things done wrong, that's just the main one that jumped out so glaringly. So like others have said, why follow through and post this video? Surely when they watched it back, they noticed several mistakes before posting. This is supposed to teach, but it's just a confusing mess. No one's panties are in a wad... just an obvious observance.
Am I the only one who feels they messed up the powers for the vagabond, and it should be wolf steals things, beaver repairs, and raccoon digs through trash.
Neil Blaiberg she must move FROM a clearing that matches in her decree, and she must build IN a clearing that matches her decree. She messed it up on turn 2 as well. She didn’t play the birds right at all
@@NeilBlaiberg When the Eyrie play out their decrees, bird cards and other cards are different. Bird cards are a sort of joker cards, as they can work on any and all clearings. Unlike for example a mouse card, that only works with the mice clearings. So building your decree with bird cards makes it a lot more flexible. The two starting viziers count as bird cards. But it also means you fall harder when it all topples, and every bird card in there loses you VP. Or you can build with a lot of fox cards etc. The things you can do is more limited, like recruit in specifically a fox clearing, or move into/out of a fox clearing. But they won't cost you any VP when the decree finally falls over.
My friends and I tried playing this game yesterday. I played as the Woodland Alliance, and we stopped because I was so confused how to play the Woodland Alliance so we stopped playing. Seeing it played out helps a lot.
29:09 Eyrie built a roost when her decree stated she needed to build one in a bunny clearing she controls not a Fox clearing TURMOIL 29:49 Woodland Alliance Your Sympathy tokens must be connected when placing them. 37:14 Eyrie Just skipped a Recruit. She used her BIRD Card but not her MOUSE. TURMOIL 38:42 While Eyrie does get Victory Points, She only gets 1 for taking out the Sympathy Token and 3VP for the Roost. You get no points for taking out warriors. 39:12 Woodland Alliance does not KEEP the card that is given to them when someone causes outrage. It goes instantly into the supporter deck. 40:50 Vagabond is hiding his quests. They need to stay face up for all factions to see. 43:10 Marquise De Cat cannot CRAFT that card. She doesn't have 3 workshops. That card requires 3 43:44 Marquise De Cat already CRAFTED, she cannot craft again. 44:44 Marquise De Cat, CRAFTED, BUILT, and now Marched. She's doing her 3rd action not her 2nd. 45:57 Marquise De Cat took a 4th action. 46:58 Eyrie ignored 2 recruit actions. 49:31 Woodland Alliance already revolted for the Fox Clearing. You can't revolt the same clearing when your base matching it is already out. 1:10:40 Marquise De Cat did not give Woodland Alliance a card for stepping into the Sympathetic clearing. 1:11:35 Marquise De Cat cannot build there. her supply line is cut off by the Eyrie and the Woodland Alliance. 1:12:01 Marquise De Cat again you are cut off from that area. You cannot build there. Total: Marquise De Cat: -7 Eyrie: -4 Woodland Alliance: -3 Vagabond: -1 This would be understandable if it was a beginning game, but they stated they did practice rounds. So what the heck Becca?
They go over the rules in-depth and explicitly in the first part of the video. Showing them playing the game afterwards is just for fun. There are going to be rules gaffs, because they're human and can't always remember everything. But sure, how dare they not be perfect, right? By that logic you should never play any board game because you might play it wrong.
Nobody expects perfection, but this is a professional production and some degree of attention to detail and editorial oversight is to be expected, especially when new players might be learning how to play from it
New players get a rulebook just like everybody else. It's weird and counterintuitive to me to think anyone would be watching this video while playing the game.
ChargeBFX I don’t expect people to watch this in lieu of reading the rules, but rules misconceptions can get passed along that way, just by virtue of seeing someone else do it. It happens.
I don't think its fair to call it 'cheating' when someone gets a rule wrong tbh. Like, sure, correct them once so they remember for next time (and so that new players watching the vid know that there was a mistake) but like, you don't have to call them cheaters for forgetting lol
Golden rule of boardgames: you will make mistakes unknowingly, if you find out, correct and keep playing. Boardgames are a mental puzzle that require thought, some more than others. Mistakes are inevitable.
29:43 Woodland Alliance - has has to place sympathy next an adjacent Sympathy already on the board. He can't just place another Sympathy anywhere on the board. They have to connect by path.
He also can't blow up clearings and place multiple warriors every time he has 2 cards of a suit to spend. ;) Though he also didn't use Organize (quote "I have nothing to do with my 3 military actions") so i suppose it evened out.
I have only played this game once, yet within the first round of watching this I noticed so many rule mistakes. Turned it off. Please work on your accuracy for these game play throughs as much as you work on character accents.
Why couldn’t they stick with tabletops formate. Just put on a new host in. I miss the commentary that they use to do. It add something cool and new with the show.
Because that format requires more editing and preparation. Now they just put a bunch of socially awkward egocentric extroverts in a room and let them play a game wronly for about an hour.
So many times they pass the Sympathy tokens and don't give the Mouse their cards or let him draw. Supply restrictions would of prevented Cat from building that workshop. You have to draw a line with your lumber before building. Can we please get a rule checker if this show ever comes back. XD
This is a wargame (despite the cute exterior). "mean" play and table-talk is pretty much par for the course. If it's the optimal play, begrudging the player for taking it is rather absurd. Think about it from a player's perspective. If you have a strong card and no one knows about it (or questions it), you should hide it for maximum impact when you use it. If someone else has a strong card, you should warn the table so that other players attack and hinder that player instead of you.
New people who are watching this and have root read your rules first before watching this especially because the rules have changed! And their are quite a few mistakes.
"Learning new tabletop games can be a challenge. On Game the Game, Becca Scott teaches you and plays new board games with fun guests each week." It seems that this show itself is not up to the challenge of learning new games. If you advertise the show as a way to teaching + play through, then for the love of all that is good, don't make so many glaring rules mistakes. At the very least, have an editor go over the game and add a note saying "hey, we messed up this rule, but we were consistent about it so be aware of it". The galling thing is that these failures were not some weird edge cases that happens rarely, but something crucial to the factions (such as how eyrie's decree works, how cat's wood can be connected, and how alliance's supporter decks and sympathy tokens work). You can do much better than this. In fact, channels with far smaller budgets indeed do much better than this.
Along with the whole multiple mistakes thing. I think the biggest thing that annoyed me is the using of a bird ambush card to gain one wood. Such a waste.
It seems to me that this is an awfully complex game, made more complex by the asymmetric rules. Some games just make it very difficult to play "correctly" because there is so much to remember. I wouldn't normally play this one, but my friend bought it so I'll end up playing at least one game today. Thanks for giving me a sense of what it's like.
Well done! I agree that there were a fair amount of rule errors, but it was still fun to watch. It would’ve been useful if you could’ve pointed out the rule errors like Rhado does with the Klingon channel.
Listen, thankyou for atleast trying to explain this game. Its Stupidly complicated for what it could be (That might be its charm). Errors will happen but that doesn't matter too much, as long as everyone had fun.
How did the Vagabond know he got a hammer when he explored those ruins on his first turn? Also, why did the birds no lose their decree when there was no card in the « recruit » spit at the opening of their turn?
This looks to be a good game. Much variety and replay value. Not only are there four, plus expansion, sides to play which are all different, but you should want to play some again to see if you can win with that side. Many comments state that a lot of rules were broken during play in this video. They do not state which, or how. My question is, does the actual rules make the game any less or more fun than how they played it in the video?
Becca's very first turn broke rules. The decrees are determined by the suite of the card used. Her using a mouse card on the move and then the bunny card on the build meant she could only move from a mouse clearing (although I thought that includes a to but everyone else has been harping it's only from) and build in a ruled bunny clearing. Becca therefore could not have moved from her starting location or built her new roost in the bunny clearing. Therefore, two of her decree on her first turn were undoable and she would have lost her turn. A lot of the rules broken were tied to the balance of the game. It wouldn't make it less fun per se, but it makes it harder for some groups to win fairly.
it makes it a little more enjoyable yes, cause it's more fair. Since rules are different for each player, some get an advantage. they dont all break the rules equally
Well, many pointed out the rule mistakes... It started with the Eyrie's first turn already and their added mouse card to the Move section in the Decree, which would have meant she has to move warriors from a mouse clearing to an adjacent clearing. But since all warriors were in the rabbit clearing, it would have fallen apart already that moment... I didn't watch any further (yet).
First all the game-breaking rule mistakes in Betrayal Legacy (which have now likely changed the outcomes of several haunts) and now the many mistakes here, including the big one of playing all Eyrie decree cards as wilds... I love the show, but you guys really do need to have someone checking the rules. At the very least, you should have rule corrections on-screen like in Tabletop.. but it's a lot more helpful if you also have a person watching and interrupting if a mistake is made real-time.
I know people mentioned rules being broken in the comments. But I think the one that I couldn't find was that the Alliance gets points for placing sympathy tokens. But I don't think I noticed them doing that. Am I wrong?
Thanks for the show! I really enjoy watching these and was really happy to see a play-through of Root which is a game I was wondering if I'd like myself! I hope you guys keep making tons of new content!
I read the rules, I checked the FAQ, I decided to watch this to see it in action in a very professional lights and sounds, but right off the bat the mistakes on Becca's action made me go away. Kinda sad... but anyway, that's how it goes.
I have a few questions that have come up for me while playing. I am a newbie: - Can I revolt anytime and anywhere? In this game, a base has already been established in a fox glade and yet revolt has been made on the field. I thought you can only revolt once per class if there is no base yet. Or can you revolt at any time to eliminate enemies, but you can only build one base per class? In other words, if I already have a fox base, can I only revolt on rabbit and mouse locations? Can I only revolt a total of 3 times if my opponents don't destroy my bases? - The Vagabond player has flipped the teapot and bag a few times for his quests. Wouldn't that have required him to put these items in his pouch until he refreshed them the next turn? Wouldn't that have even caused him problems with his carrying capacity? - A dominance card is visible in the margin for all to see. If I know my opponent wants to use it, couldn't I just take it beforehand and keep it or not play it to block it? The alliance could, for example, put the dominance card with its supporter and block it for the rest of the game? Or are you forced to play a dominance card when you trade it?
1. no you can only revolt where you do not have a base yet, yes you can only revolt on rabbit and mouse locations if you already have a fox base. 2. not sure about the question in general, however, when you refresh items, you refresh it according to this sequence: teapot -> satchel -> then everything inside the satchel 3. a dominance card can be spent for its suit (i.e. can be put into the WA supporters) however, after it is used, it does not get discarded but it goes face up near the map to show that it is AVAILABLE to be activated and taken. if the WA decides not to use that dominance card and leaves it in his supporter stack, then he technically can "block" it from being used for the rest of the game.
that's why batman paints the area around his eyes. Also, I miss Will. I love you all and your enthusiasm. Do you think Will could be a guest? Or was that bridge burnt?
Been watching a lot of Root videos b4 Christmas so I can decide if I want to get the game. This is the best video in the whole of RUclips 100%. Thank you.
If anybody bends my cards like this playing them, I throw them right out of th e house. What's next? Chips-fingers on the game?!? ^^ Keep it up Rebecca! Love your videos!
I banned open drinks from the gaming table as well. Bottles are okay or glasses next to the table. Some of my friends made fun of this but this is less awkward than the question who is going to pay for the 150€ in damage if you spill your coke over the entire table, and most games cost that much with expansions these days...
I am preparing to play this game at a convention this weekend. In preparation, I read the Learn to Play rule book and wanted to supplement that with a video of the gameplay. After reading the comments about how many rules were missed/wrong, I'm going to stop watching because I don't want to learn the game incorrectly.
1. Sad to see a nicely filmed and prepared video like this one rendered completely useless because of so many mistakes. Pleeease read the rules!! 2. Is so much silliness really necessary?? 3. The racoon guy reminds me of, well, a racoon! Creepy
i mean it gets the idea across, which is what this channel is there for. New players get the gist of the game. experienced players will probably go somewhere else for actual strategy help if needed. i bought it partially because of this video. now it hurts my eyes watching the mistakes yes,but the vid did fulfill its purpose.
I got the gist of the game by watching this. I don't care about their mistakes because it looks like they're having fun and really, that seems to be the point of any game. I don't think this is something you can learn over night as an average human, which I'm not afraid to admit that I am. These are people I'd like to play this game with and I'd rather learn from them over some stuffy academic. For being real, I'm now a subscriber.
Eh, new players play Marquise poorly pretty much always. It's hard to realize how action starved you are when it's your first time. The rules mistakes were a much bigger problem. They would have benefitted from following the Walk Through guide.
Davis got screwed over with the rules, Becca cheated a ridiculous amount, treating everything like birds, Gina won with cheating during her last turn, and i felt like Poisal was trying his best to keep them all straight with rules but it just wasn't possible. Also, it felt like Gina and Becca just suffocated everyone else on the table because they were constantly meowing at eachother and speaking over Davis.
43:11 she was not allowed to play this card at this moment as she did not have 3 forges out in 3 mouse clearing to craft that card, she actually only had 2 forges out at all.
Rules reference says that tokens and pawns do not count for ruling the clearing. I think it was not the tie situation on 33:57 of the video. I think orange player was ruling over that clearing...
lol, youtube is timeless so people will continue to ask this same question into eternity won't they? No it's not a replacement, it's been around since before his show, it's just that Tabletop is gone now.
Uhhhh, I just got this game and played last night with some friends. It’s complicated, so I’d figure I’d watch a reputable source for a “how to” to confirm some things. So many things were wrong during the first turn… I guess it doesn’t matter, but still… Would have expected more from geek and sundry. Wouldn’t recommend this for learning specifics, but they do a good job of going thru each faction and playing thru.

I wish this was not one of my first stops for rules on Root. The number of core game mechanic mistakes literally broke the gameplay. I had to unlearn so many bad practices before I taught it to my friends! I honestly think this should be taken down and re-shot. It really is that bad.
When tokens, like Roost, wood, sawmill, sympathy, etc gets removed or attacked from the board what happens to them? Are they removed from the game or go back to your board in an appropriate spot or just into a pile to be used again?
All these "cheating" comments. Geez. I do not believe she was being dishonest in her rules goofs. It is for entertainment. Besides that, she didn't even win, albeit, she did come close. I've even seen Tabletop episodes with rules goofs and other instructional videos where they had to add notes about messing up rules.
Was really excited to see gameplay but was disappointed to see the very first bird turn be played incorrectly. As others have pointed out, actions must correspond to the suite in their decree, meaning the very first turn would have broken the decree... There are a lot of rules in root, but I do wish the team had reviewed them a bit more before playing. This is a very basic rule that *hugely* impacts the game.
No you can't. This is a mistake that is made in the video. If there is a bunny on build then you are only able and even forced to build a roost in a bunny and only a bunny clearing. This is also why I would say adding a non-bird card under build in your decree is quite risky, since there are only so much bunny clearings on the board. Using a bird in build gives you the freedom to build wherever you want.
15:41 isn't that already breaking a rule since the move action calls for a move FROM a mouse clearing but you move from your yellow starting rabbit clearing? Just played the game on Steam for a few times for the first time.
Here here. I get Wil is mad or whatever, but come on, find a different host of it, and restart it. It was such a good series and always got my fiance and I into certain board games by seeing them played. This... Is not the same.
All sawmills must be connected! Last move wasn't legal. Cannot build new one, if you have no sawmills near clearing (the wood cannot be transported to that clearing).

@@RenbroNL I agree. Or she couldn't build so early in the game and does not score points.

I never said the rule book isn't clear, the rule books both are pretty good, but yes, the asymmetric elements that make it a bit of learning steep :)
popsicle man I don’t know. The rule book isn’t very specific. It goes into depth about lots of things but forgets others that seem obvious.
I cringe when I see people like Gina bending cards the way she does when she plays them on the table.
Yeah, I hate people like that. Boardgames are expensive these days and I expect people to treat my belongings with care.
Nah... you got to break those card in.
Wow. This made me reallize how much i miss Will
I totally agree.
Jan Večeřa what did happen to him?
lol, i came to the comments to post exactly that.
So that’s what happened
It was great to see Root in action. Picked up a copy (+ the expansion) the other day and read the rules but I'm a much better visual learner. It was also really useful reading the comments and learning of their mistakes. I thought the way the one was playing her Decrees was a little suspicious! Thanks GtG and comment section :3
I watched this video month ago not knowing much about Root. I‘ve read the rules now and wanted to watch this to solidify my rule-saviness. Well… first turn of the dynasties has 2 mistakes, First turn of the alliance another mistake and it continues…
It‘s Impressive how wrongly they Are playing Root. Thanks to the cast and the amazing productions it’s very entertaining still
Well said. Very impressive indeed. Shame really.
I know this is an older comment, but I hope you finally managed to get your panties out of a wad.
+1 - there should at least be annotations or notes explaining the mistakes
@@chand911 how does this reply even make sense? The decree rules were not followed at all throughout the most of the game. And there were several other things done wrong, that's just the main one that jumped out so glaringly. So like others have said, why follow through and post this video? Surely when they watched it back, they noticed several mistakes before posting. This is supposed to teach, but it's just a confusing mess. No one's panties are in a wad... just an obvious observance.
I miss Wil too.
I love you will :'(

@@Jackleber Yeah it was cringe all around.

My grupo played this Vagabond Aid thing wrong and he won preatty easy lol this rule miss could ruin some games really bad
I love this game but I had to stop watching after Becca cheated twice on her first turn 😂
How?
Not really cheating
She didnt remeber the rule
My friends and I tried playing this game yesterday. I played as the Woodland Alliance, and we stopped because I was so confused how to play the Woodland Alliance so we stopped playing. Seeing it played out helps a lot.
You have broken The Law of Root so many times! And for that you enter Gamer Turmoil :D
29:09 Eyrie built a roost when her decree stated she needed to build one in a bunny clearing she controls not a Fox clearing TURMOIL
29:49 Woodland Alliance Your Sympathy tokens must be connected when placing them.
37:14 Eyrie Just skipped a Recruit. She used her BIRD Card but not her MOUSE. TURMOIL
38:42 While Eyrie does get Victory Points, She only gets 1 for taking out the Sympathy Token and 3VP for the Roost.
That card requires 3
43:44 Marquise De Cat already CRAFTED, she cannot craft again.
Total:
Marquise De Cat: -7
Eyrie: -4
Woodland Alliance: -3
Vagabond: -1
This would be understandable if it was a beginning game, but they stated they did practice rounds. So what the heck Becca?
the art style is soooooooo good
There was a lot of rules goofs here. I understand Root is complicated but this is supposed to be a show about teaching the game. 🙁
You're kidding right? If you can't play the game right, don't represent it on your channel.
ChargeBFX
I don’t expect people to watch this in lieu of reading the rules, but rules misconceptions can get passed along that way, just by virtue of seeing someone else do it. It happens.
I enjoyed this, regardless of the rules mistakes.
Editing this video must have been a hard work but I love the final result, I really enjoyed watching you play that wonderful game guys!
Dear God, how did you get through this....10 minutes in and my eyes started bleeding.
Just can't stop to think that Will Wheaton would have made the game 10 times as entertaining

Becca’s cheating with both hands. She’s treating all her decree cards as if they were birds
I thought that was a bit odd. Glad to know I was right about that.
Becca cheating is the one constant of this show :D
@@SpydersByte Wil had the cursed dice, Becca cheats. As certain as death and taxes, lol.
She always cheating
I dont think it´s on purpose she cheats.
Regardless of the rule errors, Becca is simply delightful. The whole bunch of them are fantastic. Great job guys and girls.
29:43 Woodland Alliance - has has to place sympathy next an adjacent Sympathy already on the board. He can't just place another Sympathy anywhere on the board. They have to connect by path.
He also can't blow up clearings and place multiple warriors every time he has 2 cards of a suit to spend. ;)
Though he also didn't use Organize (quote "I have nothing to do with my 3 military actions") so i suppose it evened out.
I have only played this game once, yet within the first round of watching this I noticed so many rule mistakes. Turned it off. Please work on your accuracy for these game play throughs as much as you work on character accents.
I noticed the moving mistake. What else was there
Ghost lord 15 at 7:15 she is using a bunny decree to build on a mouse clearing.
Why couldn’t they stick with tabletops formate. Just put on a new host in. I miss the commentary that they use to do. It add something cool and new with the show.
Seriously! Game the Game is really bad. I don't even WANT to watch the playthroughs, I wish we had TableTop back
Because that format requires more editing and preparation.
XD
I watch the show to see the vibes of the game and I loved it. But even the winning move was a rule mistake for gods sake 😂
Becca is... not someone I would want to play with. She's kinda mean, like when she called out what a card did as soon as it was taken from her.
poor guy. He did say they'll find out when I play it and she ignored him
No...he said that AFTER she told what the card did. Also she might have done it for the viewers sake. Just a thought
Time stamp?
New people who are watching this and have root read your rules first before watching this especially because the rules have changed! And their are quite a few mistakes.
Ahh VP Points....the elusive Victory Point Points, distant cousin to the ATM Machine and PIN Number.
Or DC Comics.
32:56 Now every time I see a raccoon I'm going to think of how absurd it would look in a football helmet and pads.
"Learning new tabletop games can be a challenge. On Game the Game, Becca Scott teaches you and plays new board games with fun guests each week."
It seems that this show itself is not up to the challenge of learning new games.
Same lolll and it would have been useful just a moment later
It seems to me that this is an awfully complex game, made more complex by the asymmetric rules. Some games just make it very difficult to play "correctly" because there is so much to remember. I wouldn't normally play this one, but my friend bought it so I'll end up playing at least one game today. Thanks for giving me a sense of what it's like.
Love this game. I love Vast too but this game is easier to teach and easier to track who is winning.
15:22 The decree, Move: “move FROM a matching clearing” she made an illegal move on her first turn. To be fair, thats an easy one to miss.
Right in the Bunny Hole! 27:52
Way too few comments about the bunny hole! Her reaction to her own choice of words is hilarious!
"...this uprising in my bunny hole!" How could the table not lose it?
Since rules are different for each player, some get an advantage. they dont all break the rules equally
lmao the way Becca hesitated before saying "Ask Your Black Geek Friends"
Well, many pointed out the rule mistakes... It started with the Eyrie's first turn already and their added mouse card to the Move section in the Decree, which would have meant she has to move warriors from a mouse clearing to an adjacent clearing. But since all warriors were in the rabbit clearing, it would have fallen apart already that moment... I didn't watch any further (yet).
Stopped watching after the Eyrie player made a rule mistake on T1.
What was the mistake?
@@Coffeeblack2sugars moved her warriors from a bunny suit place when she had placed a mouse suit on the decree.
She moved too a mouse suit clearing though
@@Just-a-Canuck You can only move FROM a matching clearing. So if you put a mouse card on move, you have to move FROM a mouse clearing.
She also built on a mouse clearing whilst having a bunny suit on her build decree.

Man, they set up the conflict dynamics with the accents perfectly.
Kinda sad... but anyway, that's how it goes.
nice playthrough! My gaming group is coming today for a game, hope the session goes well :)

It's gone so far down hill since Wil left.
This is the very first time I see one of your videos and OMG I love your guests!
yeah the guests are really good
I have a few questions that have come up for me while playing. I am a newbie:
- Can I revolt anytime and anywhere?
2. not sure about the question in general, however, when you refresh items, you refresh it according to this sequence: teapot -> satchel -> then everything inside the satchel
3. a dominance card can be spent for its suit (i.e. can be put into the WA supporters) however, after it is used, it does not get discarded but it goes face up near the map to show that it is AVAILABLE to be activated and taken. if the WA decides not to use that dominance card and leaves it in his supporter stack, then he technically can "block" it from being used for the rest of the game.
this feels like a mini game movie :)
Game the Game < Tabletop. Holy shit this had a lot of rule mistakes. Plus the table mood was awkward at best
That's what happens when you value diversity over entertainment.

I need this game.
Free to print and play.
It physically hurt to see a bird ambush card burned for an overwork action

Wouldn’t recommend this for learning specifics, but they do a good job of going thru each faction and playing thru.
would be nice if someone named the music used as background for this!

Hey, it's that dude from G4.
Still odd green never got any point after his officer gains, he was the same point for last few rounds.
I wish this was not one of my first stops for rules on Root. The number of core game mechanic mistakes literally broke the gameplay. I had to unlearn so many bad practices before I taught it to my friends! I honestly think this should be taken down and re-shot. It really is that bad.
Glad I read these comments, prepping for my first play through.
Yeah they kinda fricked up on the birds actions and I’m only like 17 minutes in
That was a nice victory!!
Thanks for playing this one. I had no idea it existed, but looks like a very nice game.
ROOT IS ON STEAM NOW!!!!
When tokens, like Roost, wood, sawmill, sympathy, etc gets removed or attacked from the board what happens to them? Are they removed from the game or go back to your board in an appropriate spot or just into a pile to be used again?
they go back to the board
Gina cannot win the game by her last build action because the last clearing was cut off and resources cannot be spent
17:19 can you build in a mouse clearing that you dominate even if it says (in your decree) that you can build in the bunny a clearing?
No you can't. This is a mistake that is made in the video. If there is a bunny on build then you are only able and even forced to build a roost in a bunny and only a bunny clearing. This is also why I would say adding a non-bird card under build in your decree is quite risky, since there are only so much bunny clearings on the board. Using a bird in build gives you the freedom to build wherever you want.
Does the Woodland Alliance have the guerrilla warfare power so the first battle Becca did should have fared differently?
15:41 isn't that already breaking a rule since the move action calls for a move FROM a mouse clearing but you move from your yellow starting rabbit clearing? Just played the game on Steam for a few times for the first time.
