YES that’s awesome!!! When your group asks to play it again-you know that’s a great sign about the game. Happy to hear you all had a great time, and thank you for all your kind words!
I believe this is a really good boardgame. I really think it hits a sweet spot where its not too complicated, but you can go a bit deeper and play a more min/max style with lots of combos. A definite buy for me, its not am expensive game.
I know I'm super late to say anything here, but I have been trying to get family and friends to play this game with me and always find it somewhat difficult and lengthy to explain. I appreciate your effort in this video and will probably be using it in the future before playing this game with anyone new or for a rules refresher. Thanks for the great video.
Man I just found out about this game a few days ago. I got the Base game and now. I wish I was able to get the Kickstarter Edition!!! This game is so much fun!
To be clear, what I'm about to say is my opinion and I know we all learn in different ways. An explanation that works best for me is a clear and specific game objective in the beginning while also explaining the specific mechanics or player choices in relation to that objective. So it would have helped me if, after mentioning the role of the players in the game, the specific goal to slay 3 monsters or end the turn with 6 different classes was mentioned somewhere near the beginning of the video rather than the end. This is so that I could relate why the other mechanics are important in the game. Also (though you have done it in some of the cards or features), it would be a great improvement if you could demonstrate the actual effect of the cards rather than just hold it in front of the camera while explaining for a few seconds. But that's just me or maybe a few others. Keep it up! You've got a nice place there and great video quality.

same here. i would suggest explaining every possible thing within a 5opic before moving to the next and just connecting everything up at the end. ex: how many time can i use my points, if i 10 accumulated action points, can i spend it all on a draw and draw 10 cards. tnx
Thanks. Just played the game yesterday with some friends. There was one question I couldn't get a straight answer though. We start off with 5 cards in hand, but is there a limit to your hand size? Do we discard back to 5 at the end of our turn? Or keep our cards?
Awesome! glad you found it helpful! I was wondering about the same, but I don't think there's a card limit. It doesn't mention anything in the rulebook about a limit and on bgg forums, it seems like it's safe to say there's no limit to how many cards you can have in your hand since it wasn't mentioned
I started wondering the exact same thing. Like why would you want to get rid of your entire hand, giving one or two good cards to draw 5 cards on the cost of your turn vs. using all of your action points to draw 3 more cards? And in addition, if your opponents use a card to pull an X number of cards from your hand and depending what card it is, they can play it, but the odds of it being the card they need is low since you may have 15 cards in your hand.
This was very helpful, thank you. I'm always looking for new games to play with my kids, and this one caught my attention. I might have to pick this one up to try out for family game night.
Hello, love your page! Sorry for the long message but I had a few questions regarding the game Here to Slay: 1. Can more players play with each addded expansion pack? (Like Upto 8 players with 1 expansion and upto 10 players with 2 expansions?) 2. In order to win, with each expansion how do the rules change?… How many monsters have to defeated AND how many heroes have to be collected in order to win with 7/8/9/10 players respectively?? 3. Out of the two available expansions (W&D and B&N), which one would you recommended and why? 4. If we want to play with 4 players but want to select a Party Leader from an expansion pack.. how do we proceed?
Pls tell me where u got the boss mat from, I want that to complete this great setup. Super helpful tutorial bro. Thank you. Finally got the family to play.
Small nitpick but party leaders can fill requirements against monsters. Only class specific requirements though. So if a monster requires 2 generic heros(2 gray Hs) it cant help. But if a monster requires a Bard and a generic hero and your party leader is a Bard it can fill that part of the requirement
Thanks Rod I really appreciate that! Let me know how you like the game! The playmats were part of the kickstarter bundle! I think they were also an addon option as well during the campaign
When fighting a monster, you can roll lower to fail and higher to succeed. For example, lets say its 6 or lower to fail and 9 or higher to succeed. What would happen if you roll in between, like if you roll a 7? Great video by the way!
So when you pick up from the main deck do you need to discard? Or can you hold more than 5 cards in your hand? If someone steals a card of yours, do you draw another from the main deck to replace it? Or do you need to wait until the next round and use a point to get a replacement? If you play a hero card from your hand but are unsuccessful in exceeding the score on the die, does it stay in your party or return to your hand?
Hey Simon! When you pick up cards from the main deck, you do not need to discard-so far, it doesn't seem like there's a hand limit stated in the rulebook! If someone steals your card, you do not replace it; the card is simply stolen and there is no reaction on your end for it-you lose the card The hero stays in your party, but you just don't get to use it's ability this turn Hope that helps clear things up a bit!
I don't think there is....i've been searching for an answer and it doesn't look like there's a hand limit; for modifiers, the rules state that you complete all in a chain once everyone's played their cards so there doesn't seem to be a limit for that either!
So wait. In the case of Cloaked Sage, it will count toward the victory condition if "assemble a team of heroes from varying classes" but not when skating a monster? Going back to discount Cerberus, I can't use Cloaked Sage as the wizard requirement?
The modifier cards say they're played AFTER any player rolls the dice, so I'm not sure what you're saying here is correct. It doesn't sound like you have a choice to play it before a roll is made, and that it should only come out as needed to modify a roll, meaning it won't be wasted on a roll that won't change the outcome.
So I have the expansions which adds 5 different classes (though in your video I think I saw 2 I don’t have) what are the win conditions? 6 heroes seems WAY to easy but all classes is way too long of a game. Any suggestions on what to move the party size and monsters slayed to?
So can you play a cursed card over an enemy hero if that enemy hero already has an item card equipped to it? Pls this is like the only thing I’m confused upon
I don't think you can equip a cursed card to an enemy hero if that hero already has an item card; the reason for that is because a cursed card is considered an item, and in turn, "Only one Item card can be equipped to a Hero card at a time, and you cannot replace an Item card with another" hope that helps!
@@TimChuon well actually I’m also confused on another thing are we allowed to use beneficial item cards for enemy hero’s? Yesterday my brother used a Thief’s mask on my Bard which all I needed was a Guardian, and then I need a bard and a guardian. So my question is do you have a choice to use beneficial item cards for enemy hero’s.
Played last night and we weren't doing the challenges correctly.. Just so I know, if I Challenge an opponent who successfully rolls to use a hero's effect that's already on their mat, and I win the challenge, does it destroy the hero (i.e. move to discard)? Or does the discarding of the hero only happen when they want to INITIALLY put down/play the hero card as an action point? It's clear in the video that if it's an item or magic card, then my winning the Challenge makes it go to the discard pile immediately. In short, just unclear on the nuance when it comes to Challenging hero cards that are already on the mat, or initially put into play via an action point. Thanks in advance!
ah great question! I think since stealing puts the other player's card into your party, the hero is now considered yours so you should be able to roll for the effect like with your other heroes
Can you only have one of each class of hero on your board at a time? Like can I recruit more than 5 and have duplicate classes until I get the 5th different one to win?
Yes you can! They work just like party leader cards so if a condition is met after the monster joined your party, you should be able to use it then and there
monster cards work just like party leaders! So each time that condition is met, that's when you get to draw a card-for cerberus, when you draw a magic card, you're allowed to play that magic card immediately and it's free
Awesome vid, just played a game last night but ran into some confusion as such with new games. If you are able to clarify two things if possible thatd be great. One when summoning a hero and using its effect immediately does that only cost one action point or two? And can you summon multiple heros if you have enough action points?
Thanks David! Summoning a hero costs one point, and during that initial summon, you can roll to use their effect without an extra cost. You can also summon multiple heroes if you have enough action points-the rules say you're allowed to perform the same action more than once on your turn; I hope that helps clarify things!
That's a "1" - i know it was super confusing, so many people were confused with it (myself included). I think they intended it to look like a unicorn horn haha
After losing a challenge, a hero'll be moved to the discard pile, so does this count as destroy a hero? and if yes, can Terratuga monster prevent this?
well currently it's a little confusing because the playmats have 5 available spaces, but the rulebook explicitly states that "there is no limit to the number of heroes you can have in your party" There also doesn't seem to be a consensus with changing out a hero just yet, but here's the thread from BGG on it! boardgamegeek.com/thread/2504118/article/35981898#35981898
Hey, thanks for the video! I haven't played it yet, so it might be explained in the rules.. But what happens if you use all the cards in your hand or have 1 card left and you fail a monster roll that requires you to discard 2 cards? Do you discard cards in play on the board? Sorry if that's a silly question or I missed something, thanks!
Yanzie oh wow those are great questions! 1) if you use all cards in your hand, I think you would have to end your turn and use action points to draw more on your next turn 2) hmm I think you would just have to discard what’s remaining in your hand-I don’t think an effect like that would have to carry over on your next turn ; haven’t encountered this scenario yet but I would imagine it’d be from your hand only since those are ones you own-unless you still have a remaining action point! Then if you use 2 pts to atk a monster, it makes you discard one remaining card, then use your final action point to draw and discard it.... ah I think this is a fantastic question but I would assume this is how it goes!
@@TimChuon Awesome that helps a ton, that sounds like a good rule to set up - thank you for the super quick reply too. Going to pick up the game today, it looks great!
Can anyone provide an answer? I know you’re not allowed to play another class of the same class you already have on your field. But what happens if someone swaps and you end up getting two of the same class on the field. What happens? Do you have to sacrifice one? Or do you lose your win condition of having 6 different classes on the field. What happens?
You would lose your winning condition! The rules don’t mention having to sacrifice cards, but they do state that a winning condition is to have different classes; there’s also no limit to heroes so you’d keep playing till one player meets the winning conditions! Hope that helps~
@@M2VK9 in order to purchase the player mats?? I’m not sure if they’re on sale anymore 😩 they might have something on their main website at www.unstablegames.com but if not, hopefully they’ll make it available in the future!
unless otherwise stated-yes! It'll cost one action point to attach a cursed item, but since a cursed item counts as a normal item, then once you attach it to an enemy hero-it can't be removed until that enemy hero is destroyed, stolen, or returned. hope that helps!
Thanks for the video Tim. One area I'm confused: There is no limit to the number of cards in your hand it seems, but do you only lay down the cards that you are playing, with 5 cards max? And if so, can you rotate cards in and out (of the 5 card "playing/battle field")?
Thank you Teresa, glad you liked it! So this is a great question... 5 cards on the playing field is not the max. The rules state that “there is no limit to the amount of heroes you can have in your party,” actually, and I know that’s confusing because the player mats only have 5 slots. For now, there is no limit to heroes in your party as well; in turn, you can’t rotate cards in and out of your party since there is no maximum and heroes must stay until they are removed from some card effect. Hope that helps!
There's still one thing that confuses me. It says you can play a hero card for one point or roll to use the effect of a hero card for one point. So in my head that is supposed to be differentiating PLAYing a hero card and ROLLing to use the effect of a hero card. But in order to PLAY, you need to ROLL. You'd essentially be doing 2 of the 3 1-point options just by PLAYing one hero card.
ah i can see how that's confusing! So "playing" would mean to put the hero on your board, but once your hero is on the board, then you just have to constantly roll to use their ability. Essentially, you would only have to play a hero once, and then just roll for your hero's ability each time you use it; the wording is tricky for sure, but i hope this clarifies it up a bit!
If I were to go back-I’d probably just get the regular edition and 1 or 2 playmats! Unless you really like the overall components (standees don’t have a function at all in the game)
Alrightt, thank you for the fast reply😁! I really like your way of filming gets me hyped up to buy the games you showcase haha, whats your favorite here to slay type game? Im searching for more fun card/board games to play with my friends. We play alot of munchkin but it takes a bit long sometimes and gets boring over time
man I wish I knew this game had a Kickstarter so much content for 25 dollars now if I want it I would have to pay 100 or over which I will never do for a game like this. Honestly I don't think Kickstarter should have that many exclusives cause for everyone else that didn't know about it, its like why should I even get it? There is so much content that others have that I don't.
ah i'm sorry to hear that! it's definitely hard with the platform-i'm hoping they open it up on their website at least to make the exclusives available for later purchase
Nice summary. I would mention a slayed Monster abilities can only be used on your turn. For example, Terratuga's skill "Your Hero cards cannot be destroyed." would make it an OP card. No one can destroy your hero cards, if you can use that skill on everyone's turn.
This is the clearest explanation I've heard.

to a Hero card at a time, and you cannot replace an Item card with another" hope that helps!

How many cards can you hold on your hand?
no hand limit! so far it seems like there's no explicit rule on how many cards is the maximum you can hold
So for that cerberus. U may play a magic card right when u draw it , is that for free or does it cost an action
monster cards work just like party leaders!
What does the 3 slashes on the dice mean?
That's a "1" - i know it was super confusing, so many people were confused with it (myself included). I think they intended it to look like a unicorn horn haha
After losing a challenge, a hero'll be moved to the discard pile, so does this count as destroy a hero? and if yes, can Terratuga monster prevent this?
A challenged hero is not in play yet untill you win the challenge, if you lose the challenge terratuga does not protect
Also can u only have 5 heros out total? And if so how would i change them out for different ones so i can have the different types
well currently it's a little confusing because the playmats have 5 available spaces, but the rulebook explicitly states that "there is no limit to the number of heroes you can have in your party"
There also doesn't seem to be a consensus with changing out a hero just yet, but here's the thread from BGG on it! boardgamegeek.com/thread/2504118/article/35981898#35981898
You can have only Max 5 Heroes at same time?
Nah, you can have infinite
1:44 what does he mean here, I’m really confused
do you play unlimited heroes of the same type or you are limited at one of each type ?
you can play multiple heroes of a type! they're not limited
1) if you use all cards in your hand, I think you would have to end your turn and use action points to draw more on your next turn
2) hmm I think you would just have to discard what’s remaining in your hand-I don’t think an effect like that would have to carry over on your next turn ; haven’t encountered this scenario yet but I would imagine it’d be from your hand only since those are ones you own-unless you still have a remaining action point!
Where did you get the playmat you used?
They were from the Kickstarter campaign!
On the dice, there's the symbol of the unicorn horn. Is that still considered a 1 or is it some kind of 1-6 wild card?
It's a 1- its just for show. I had the same question
yes i did as well! it's definitely a 1
what does the horn mean on the dice?
Right?! Hahah that’s actually the number 1, I was confused at first as well!
@@TimChuon oh aha 😅
@@TimChuon thanks for answering so quickly! :^)
Where did you get a player mat?
they were from the kickstarter campaign!
thanks
Can you send me a link and what am I supposed to do when I get there?
@@M2VK9 in order to purchase the player mats?? I’m not sure if they’re on sale anymore 😩 they might have something on their main website at www.unstablegames.com but if not, hopefully they’ll make it available in the future!
@@TimChuon Thanks! I found the bored.
So handy and short videoo thx
thanks sander! Happy you found it helpful!
Great vid man!
TheGamingWard thank you!!
Modifier had cost?
Modifier and challenge don't cost, they can used right away when the result of roll is declared.
Can you have as many heroes you want?
This was so helpful, like and subscribe.
Thanks ahmed! So happy to hear that, welcome to the channel!
the sleeves they sell are 55 yet there's 134 in the deck? How does that make sense
So you can just equip a cursed item to any enemies hero card without rolling? Then that person can’t remove that cursed item for the entire game ?
unless otherwise stated-yes! It'll cost one action point to attach a cursed item, but since a cursed item counts as a normal item, then once you attach it to an enemy hero-it can't be removed until that enemy hero is destroyed, stolen, or returned. hope that helps!
@@TimChuon thank you
Thanks for the video Tim.
This was such a good video!
Thank you my friend! Happy you enjoyed the video!
I don't get how heroes can get destroyed! Monsters can attack?
Can someone tell me what to do when everyone has no more action points
You get 3 action points per turn, no action points means your turn is over
The game is cool but there's a lot of unanswered instructions.. And also the instructions booklet is a little bit confusing. Now I'm not sure 😐
Cursed items are applied to enemy's hero
Thumbnail looks like you’re sitting and wearing Here to Slay pajamas.
hahah! I didn't even realize that...although i wouldn't be opposed to wearing some!
Why do i feel this would be a great online game too
Yeah it would be! Easy to play, would be fun to see them animated as well
70 dollars for exclusive edition and playmats, Is that worth it?
This is wrong, terratuga works on all turns, how will someone destroy your card during your own turn...
Basically yugioh in an easier way to play, i like it, just tried it.
